Dr. Macatol has been GREAT!!! He really has a very caring personality and goes the extra mile to explain things so that you understand everything that you may or may not experience with WLS. His assistant Joyce is awesome, she has been incredible and has really come through for me, I went for my first consultation on Sept. 16, 2002 and my surgery is Oct. 9, 2002... 3 1/2 weeks is all it took. My insurance company approved after the first letter and I think Joyce's organization skills pay a big role in that.
I have a firm understanding of what I need to do after my surgery and Dr. Macatol has a structured plan in order for me to propery heal and get the nutrients I need at the same time.
The risks were fully discussed on several occasions but it seems to me that there are risks for any surgery and at my current weight without weight loss surgery I face far more risks such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, hypertension etc... so my choice was clear.
As far as rating Dr. Macatol and Joyce I give them 5 gold stars, two thumbs up and a standing ovation... not to mention my heartfelt thanks!!!

He is a really concerned Dr. He makes everyone feel comfortable and takes the time to answer questions. Dr. Macatols staff is the greatest they help you every step of the way. What I was a little concerned about was his plain office, but fancey is not always better,
Future patients, have a list of questions ready, no matter how long the list he will explain.
His after care program is very detailed.
He goes over more things that you can grasp so ask again when a question comes up.
Goes over and over with detailed pictures and lists.
100% great.
Both are excellent. When is the last time you had a Dr. make a house call!!

I thought Dr. Tony was very down to earth the first time I meet with him. He is a small man with a very big heart, as I learned it was hard for me at first to see someone in a small body really know how we feel.He has one women woking with him she is his right hand, she take care of all the paper work, phone calls, ect. I have already taken several of my friends to meet with him. I meet with him every week since my surgery, he even came to my home the first week out of the hospital. He believes for the first three week's ensure, water, broth, and on the third week you can start on baby food ,jello, soup. He is very up beat about this surgery he has the answers you need when things are going around and around in your head. There is a support group every other tue. at his office which I find a very big help. The one thing that was hard for me after surgery was I was in my room at 7 p.m. on a thrusday and I was home by 5 p.m. on saturday, but the longer your in the hospital the more germs are picked up. He is a very hard working man and a good surgeon.
One thing that really help me was how hard his office work to get me started and before I could have changed my mind, I had a date to go in for surgery. One thing I do know is when you wake up from surgery you wish you could be knocked back out the first week is hard.

My first impression of Dr. Macatol was that he "looked" very friendly... After talking with him I came to the conclusion that he IS very friendly and definately knows what he is doing and talking about... I look forward to dealing with him dor the aftercare, which is very structured..

Dr. Macatol is wonderful. He makes you feel like he has known you forever and is part of your family. His nurse Joyce is great as well and takes care of all the paperwork and she is the one who told me about this site along with several others. Dr. Macatol and Joyce are very dedicated to helping those of us who need this surgery so badly. His aftercare program is very structured and he insists on you attending a support group. He says once you have this surgery he becomes family because he will be in your life from then on making sure you are o.k. and doing what is going to keep you healthy and at your proper weight. He has held several meetings and done a slide presentation explaining everything about the surgery, the benefits, the risks, and insurance requirements. I cant say enough good things about my experience with both Dr. M and Joyce. My PCP, Dr. James O'Halloran was great as well, he is the one who got the ball rolling for me and put me in touch with Dr. Macatol. This is my own personal experience with the Dr.'s involved in getting me approved for surgery and is not intended to be anything else.
