She came highly recommended to me from people I knew that had the surgery.

She is very knowledgeable and sincere. Caring attitude. With me being a nurse, she treated me with respect a professional, but also treated me as a patient.. who was very anxious, nervous, and uncertain of what lyed ahead.

While in the hospital, she came to visit me several times a day. Answered all my questions.. and even sat at my bedside to look at my pictures of my babies.

She has a lot of experience, and take pts. that other surgeons turn away. Skillful in her tecnique.

Thorough in education both pre and post op
She's a 10 in my book. She gave me my life back.

She's an extremely competent surgeon (I'm a nurse and my husband MD)

Very busy and not as tuned in to how horrible it is to wait so long for an appointment and then long wait for surgery.

The program in general lacks a good knowledge of ongoing post op dietery needs and Vitamin and Mineral supplements.
I have a feeling most of these MD's are the same way because not enough is really known.

Bedside manner is friendly and competent- but I wasn't looking for a friend- I wanted the best surgeon around for this surgery and I think she is that.

She was great! Was in every day to see me after surgery. Some time even twice.

Had my first follow-up appt 2 weeks later. Was a little disappointed that I only saw an assistant and not her. Have my next appt. The end on August and I am curious if I will see her.

well my first impression of DR. C is she is great! she is very foward and honest about the risks. She makes sure you understand what they do and how they will go about doing it. I could not be any happier with her and her staff. I was seen fairly quickly and everyone was very nice.

Dr. Courcoulas is the second surgeon I've seen since January '03. The first doctor I saw was Dr.Hamad who is also from Pittsburgh. I liked Dr. Hamad and her staff. She is easy to talk to and seems to really care about her patients. I have a very large ventral hernia due to 3 c-sections. The hernia is too large to repair laproscopically and so it seems that the hernia repair and weight loss surgery will have to be "open" surgery. Dr. Hamad seems to prefer to do laproscopic surgery(in my opinion) so she asked me to consult with Dr. Courcoulas. I had all my testing done so I had the paperwork faxed to her office. Dr. Courcoulas reviewed my tests and said she felt confident that she could help me and that I should get through the hernia repair and wls at the same time without much trouble. She was very pleasant and easy to talk to. The office staff has been very helpful. I never felt uncomfortable asking anyone a question. Dr. Courcoulas told me the risks of the surgery and explained everything to my satisfaction. At this point I'd give her a 9 out of 10.
At 12 weeks out I'd give Dr. Courcoulas a 10 out of 10! She did an amazing job with my complicated surgery. Her bedside manner was wonderful. I have been treated very well at my post-op check ups. I couldn't ask for anything more.

A beautiful woman with confidence and experience.
My impression did not change.
The office staff is curteous and professional.
It took me over 6 months to get an appointment.
My surgeon didnt do the follow up care in the hospital, her partner did. But his bedside manner was good and he visited twice a day.
My office care, telephone care, and hospital care were all great.
The only thing that was negative was the time I spent in recovery, which was a much greater issue for my family because they were not allowed to see me for over 8 hrs. after the surgery was complete

I had my initial consult on 3/29/04, and though I had to wait over two hours to see the doctor, the wait was above and beyond worth it. The desk staff was very thorough and helpful, and I felt comfortable with Dr. Courcoulas right away.

She was very good at explaining the best surgical procedure for me, the complication risks, and what tests I needed. As of today (3/30/04) I was able to get all but two pre-op procedures scheduled practically right away.

I had my consultation on august 18, 04. The wait was very long, about 4 hours just to get in the room. It made for one very long day. Overall the doctor seemed great, I did however spend most of my time with an assistant. I feel very confident in Dr. Courcoulas.

When I first met Dr. Courcoulas, I felt that she was extremely competent. She knew her stuff and had the answers to all my questions. She also was very personable.

She is an awsome surgeon!!! I weighed 551 at the time of my surgery and she is the one at UPMC who handles the 400+ patients.

She tells you like it is and lays all the cards right on the table.

My overall rating for Dr. Anita Courcoulas is 100% A++++

Surgical Competence 100%
Bedside Manner 80%

She was a blessing to talk to. Was very informative. The wait in the "Waiting Room" is very worth while! She is in demand and therefore has a long waiting list, but I feel she is worth the wait.
