My first impression of Dr. Averbach was that he was definetly a brick wall. I was convinced that he had no personality. He answered all of my questions. I guess he maintains his stiff persona so that people don't take the surgery lightly. He wants to ensure that you are well informed about the surgery and that you haven't just made a rash desicion without prior knowledge. He even asked me why did I want the surgery and what I expected to accomplish from the procedure. I had to have an outpatient procedure performed by him the very next day and he seemed to be a different person than he was on the previous day. He actually came out of his shell and laughed and joked around a little. I actually appreciated the fact that he was very blunt and that he informed me of all of the complications that this surgery could possibly bring. He definetly stresses how imperative aftercare is. Overall I think that he is a wonderful surgeon and while great bedside manners is a plus I believe that surgical competence is far more important with a procedure that carries so much risk.
I was very impressed with Dr. Averbach at my consultation appointment. He was very professional and explained everything thoroughly. He was not "rushed" and was open to any questions I had. His staff have been wonderful as well. I would definitely recommend Dr. Averbach and staff to everyone. St. Agnes has a great support group that meets twice a month that seems to be very active. Having a group like they have is very important to me.
I started off with Dr. Barry Greene. He is very confident with a very good reputation, and has a lot of patients seeking his skills. For my consultation appointment I felt like I was part of an assembly line of patients and was rushed through the whole process including the exam with Dr. Greene. I did all the preop required tests and consultations and it took forever for the office staff to submit my paperwork. When they finally did, Tricare only approved the surgery to be done OPEN and had just changed their rules (one week prior) to not allow LAP RNY. Dr. Greene refused to do the procedure OPEN and I had to start all over with my PCP to get a referral to another surgeon that was willing to do my surgery OPEN or LAP. Dr. Greene's insurance coordinator was also not very nice and did not like me calling for updates.
Dr Averbach saved my life by giving me this tool. He is a wonderful surgeon and his staff can't say enough about them and exspecial Kathy Carr she has been wonderful. I would recommend him to any one who is considering WLS. He is very up front and to the point and is very nice. They really emphasize aftercare and remind you that this is a tool and you need to use it right or its not going to work.....
Over All I Loved Dr Averbach And All In His Office. Ohh and the hospital was GREAT!!!!!
Dr. Averbach presented a stoned face during inital consultation, but what surgeon doesn't? He was informative and straight-forward regarding the procedure's possible risks. He advised me not to "sit and wait, for the weight to go." He emphasized the need to develop a personal aftercare program immediatley following surgery--- or don't even bother subjecting myself to the risk involved with the procedure if I was not willing.
Dr. Averbach's office was truly the answer to my prayers. He was the third surgeon I saw and ultimately the one who did my surgery. My first impression of him was that he was quiet, serious and business like. His office staff wasn't overly effusive either but they were efficient, friendly and accomodating, which is exactly what I was looking for at that stage of the game. Cathy and Theresa have both had the surgery and they were very helpful and answered many questions.
Dr. Averbach was very meticulous with his explanations of the possible risks involved and very emphatic that exercise plays a huge part in this tool being successful. Everywhere I went at St. Agnes I found either someone who had the surgery with Dr. A or who knew someone who did. Technically, he is a very skilled surgeon. I must say that Dr. Averbach's demeanor reassured me and alleviated a great deal of my nervousness. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
Dr.Averbach seemed very professional to me. I thought he was very dry when I first met him, but he did loosen up a little the longer we talked. He seems to be knowledgable, experienced, and was very thorough in explaining the lifestyle change this surgery demands for success. I was very impressed by the service his office delivered! Theresa was top-notch and really got the ball rolling for me! Great bunch of people!
I have a Powerpoint presentation with Dr. Roe on March 11, 2004.
Went for my first consult with Dr. Roe on March 25,2004. Dr Roe and he's staff are the most understanding people. They are down to earth and make you feel comfortable. Dr. Roe doesn't try to "sell you surgery" in fact he make it very clear of the risks and long term after care you will face. I am very glad he is in my insurance plan.******** March 25, 2004-
Went to see Dr. Roe today, for my first consult. he is an amazing Doctor. Once again, he didn't try to sell the surgery. He went over the risks and long term after care, including all the medicines that you will need to be on for the rest of your life. But he has a caring way that you see in him. He wants to make sure you know what you are getting into.***********
March 26 & April 28, 2004- Went to Dr. Roe Support Groups. He is there as an educator, but he also pushing the group to talk amongst oursleves, he feels we sometimes know better about aftercare and eating since most of the group has been through the surgery.
***** Changed Surgeon do to the hospitals delaying Dr. Roe. I have a appointment with Dr. Averbach on the 29th of June. Surgery is schedule soon after. I really like Dr. A. He is a straight forward doctor. Made me feel confident in him.
I thought Dr averbach was a little dry at first. However, i think he just wanted me to know the seriosness of the surgery. After surgery he was a lot more relaxed and laid back. Overall i really like dhim. He was always available for middle of the night phone calls for severe pain, dehydration, whatever i needed to know
