I want to say that Dr. Amy Olsen-Johnson is by far the best surgeon and care provider I ever met. I had a lot of complications after my RNY WLS, she was always available to help me any way she could....oh how I miss her here @ Ft Bragg.
I got into a very horrific car accident in November 2012 and suffered a lot of broken body parts. To add, i must have pinched my stomach as well. Ever since my wreck I cannot eat without throwing up...not even water. I was at 145 pounds when I got into my wreck, but I cannot get above 125 pounds now AND I'm always hungry. I couldn't eat a lot when I was in the hospital and got down to 110 pounds. I'm always nauseated and sick.
I so wish Dr. Johnson was still here, because she would fix me as she has done in the past.
I had WLS Nov 06 and it was done by Amy Olsen Johnson.
I went from 270 down to 156. Dr Johnson told me it was to low and
that I should be around 180. Well it took me 4yrs but i'mhere and feel
Great. Dr Johnson literally saved my life. I went from 15 diff med's to just
4 diff supplements.
Dr Johnson thank's, you are a real life saver.
Love her, she is very honest and makes sure you're are well informed with your decision and the life changes.
Everyone on the team at Womack that I've encountered thus far is great. They are about getting what needs to be done done and moving you forward in the program.
There is a support group every 3rd Tuesday, and you have to attend at least 3 to get the surgery but you're also encouraged(I feel required) to attend the groups after surgery too, indefinately.
Dr Olsen was young and calm and kind. Being very fit herself, I wasn't sure if she would treat me badly like other Dr.'s had in the past but she DID NOT. She was thorough and kind. Her staff is awesome as well. She emphasized everything to me regarding the surgery. Four years post op, I have to start taking prescription iron and B12 and take them everyday for the rest of my life. I found out I had low iron, b12, etc. that is expected and I am taking them a few times a day now until my levels get higher. Her bedside manner is great, she is truly a gifted surgeon. I am blessed to have her. She will say to come in and wait if it was something that was truly bothering me or call her staff. They are very kind and great too : )
Dr. Olsen performed my RNY revision, fistual repair and gastrecomy on June 4, 2009. She is a strait forward doctor, tells you the good, the bad, the ugly. I was super nervous and she calmed me down with her confidence in her abilities. She is highly professional. Great Surgeon!rnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnrnOrginial, RNY Gastric bypass 07/11/02.rnHe is the best Dr. in the world. He is very caring, compassionate about helping obese people. He makes sure you know the risks and empasizes aftercare. His office staff is very nice and knowledgable. I would rate Dr. Warnock a solid 10
I love that I had Dr. Amy Olsen. I first met her at the support and educational meetings that our program requires we attend for a minimum of 3 months before the surgery can be done. I was hoping I would get her (practice of 3 surgeons doing this) almost from the start. She also came into our meeting with the coordinator where we first learn about all the ins and outs of our program and do our paperwork. Overall, she had made a big impression on both myself and my husband over the 6 months leading up to my surgery, with her personality and how well informed she was on up to date information on the surgeries and all that surrounds them. She was very good about making sure that we understood the risks and all other information that she would talk on each month, and it made a huge difference! Not only do we have a pre-op test to make sure we have learned about the risks, after care, etc., but she also reiterates the risks and many more things during the big pre-op appt. where you have your spouse/support person there, so they get a chance to make sure they understand as well. I was glad that she and her staff, including psych and nutrition, were pushing so hard that we were to begin making changes in our lives from day 1 to make us more ready for the exercise, drinking, and new ways of eating that we do after surgery. Take what they say to heart, make those changes and make them for life. They really do make a difference and made it where I was able to lose 25 pounds during those 6 months of pre-op! She pushes that we come to the post op meetings, as well. Don't think that you just want to have the surgery and go on your merry way. The post op meetings, clothes swap that happens with them, and the online group are all a huge help, just knowing you have people to go to with questions if nothing else. She has us come in for a 1 week post op appt. where we see the coordinator to make sure we are doing ok and double check the incisions. At the 1 month point I actually had the appt. with Dr. Olsen, and I think that it will be her that I see again at the 3 month one. I loved seeing her since I had some questions that my husband hadn't asked after my surgery, and she quickly answered them quite well. They have a 5 year follow up with this program.
I found out yesterday, i am going to have Dr. St Jean. I have only met him one time at a wls meeting, and he only spoke for about 10 minutes, he seems to be a very nice, well informed, competent surgeon, although i was looking forward to Dr Olsen. I meet Dr St Jean on 4-27. Things changed from this original post, dr st jean got deployed and will not be doing my surgery, i will have dr olsen after all!!rnrnrnrnrnFOR Dr. AMY OLSENrnrnWOW!! I just love her.. she is wonderful, rnand i have not had surgery yet, i look forward to my classes with her, she is informative, smart, witty, down to earth, she speaks to you, not at you. She makes sure you understand everything to do with WLSrnI know she will take excellent care of me, i am totally comfortable with her!! looking forward to my success, with her expertise!!!
She was great and wants to make sure her patients are totally ready for the surgery, the program is about 3 months depending on the individual. I would recommend her to anyone. She is very clear, thorough with her patients and totally up front and has time for any questions you may have most doctors rush you in and out she pulls up a chair always and gives you her total attention :)
