Dr Ali is a very humble man performing this surgery to help people get their life back. I trust him with my life, and i think he is a wonderful surgeon, he really takes the time to make sure you know what is going on in all aspects of your journey to and after weight loss surgery. He attends every weight loss meeting every month and just gives a lot of great support. His office staff is wonderful and helpful. He emphasizes aftercare and he has a structured aftercare program wich includes a dietician. Dr Ali addressed the risks of surgery very honestly as with any surgery there can be complications and risks. There is nothing i dislike about Dr Ali, and my impression of him is as always he is a great Dr and person. I think surgical competence is most important , and bedside manner is great too i'm lucky because Dr Ali has both. The only bad experience i had with my weight loss surgery is my spleen had to be removed and i had to have a blood transfusion but all was taken care of very professionally and i'm doing great.
I recently met with my prospective surgeon, Dr. Eric Schlesinger at the Bariatric Treatment Center in Belvidere, IL.
My first impression was not a good one. He seemed stiff, bored and robotic in his presentation. It felt like being on a airplane for the first time and getting all the usual instructions. After a while I became more comfortable and at ease and was able to ask questions and felt that he genuinely cared about me and my problems. I feel very comfortable with the decision I've made and Dr. S reinforces the choices I have come to terms with.
3/5/3
I decided to self-pay and go to Dr. Ali in KC.... have my first consult on 3/14.
Met him once at a support group meeting and really liked him.

I now have a surgery date, August 25, 2003. I will be having lap RNY at Truman Med Center in KC. Dr. Ali is a wonderful doctor. Not only him, but his staff is great to work with. Very friendly and helpful with ALL of my questions. Also I enjoy meeting with the student doctors who are so eager to hear my "story". Everyone is supportive and encouraging. I feel very comfortable with my decision to go to Dr. Ali and be closer to home as well.
When I was looking into the surgery, I e-mailed a few of the surgeons from the lists on this website, and only one returned my email, Dr. Ali. The email was from him, not a secretary or an assistant. He answered my questions and offered an appointment. **** I'm still as impressed as ever with Dr. Ali, and would recommend him to anyone. He cares about his patients, but mostly that everyone is completely informed and he is performing surgery only on those who are willing to do what it takes to be successful. I think that's important. His staff and the post-op patients at the meetings are unbelievably helpful.
My first impression of Dr. Ali is that I actually made the right choice in surgeons. He first and foremost put me at ease. He treated me like a person, not just another clinical case like some doctors do. He asked me questions about myself, about my history he asked me what research "I" had done.
We've had a very good repoir. My opinion over time hasn't changed I think he is an amazing doctor and have referred others to him also.
His office staff is A++++ very courtious, very knowledgeable also...they treat you very well.
He is very easy to talk to very willing to explain anything to you. He wants to make sure you understand what "YOU" need to do.
He is HUGE on after care. Has monthly support meetings that are wonderful!
On a scale of 1-10 I'd defantely rate him an 11 as well as his staff and all the staff i was in contact with at Truman Medical.
Both the surgical competence and bedside mannor were great. I'd never had surgery before and I was a bit concerned when I got home after surgery, they have a 24 hour nurses hotline when the nurses weren't sure about an answer they would page Dr. Ali and the nurse then would get right back to me.
<font face="Book Antiqua"><font size=3><p align="left">MY NAME IS TRACIE I AM 37 YRS OLD I HAVE 4 KIDS. I HAVE BEEN OVERWEIGHT ALL MY LIFE & I AM RDY TO CHANGE I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE THAT HAS HAD DR. ALI AS THEIR DR. I WANT THE GOOD & THE BAD ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH THE DR. AND WLS. I GO ON 2/11 FOR THE GROUP AND TO SEE ABOUT AN APPT.TIRED OF BEING OVERWEIGHT IN K.C. WAITING TO HEAR FROM ANYONE..
WELL LETS SEE I WENT TO MY FIRST SUPPORT GROUP LAST NIGHT 2/11/03 AND GOT MY APPT WITH DR. ALI AT TMC WEST. I GO TO SEE HIM ON MARCH 18 I CANT WAIT.
Dr. Ali was very polite and willing to answer any questions. He appeared a bit rushed and my wait once I got back into the exam room was very long. Dr. Ali's nurse, Liz, appologized several times, stating this is not how things usually work. Come prepared with questions if you are seeing Dr. Ali. Very impressed with their pre and post op program. It is very comprehensive. Met with dietician on first visit who was very upfront with the dietary lifestyle changes that will need to be made. Overall, I am very glad I chose Dr. Ali.
DR. ALI IS A VERY NICE MAN. HE LISTENS TO YOUR CONCEWRNS AND IN RETURN HE ANSWERS ALL YOUR QUESTIONS. HE DOES NOT MAKE YOU FEEL UNEASY; HE AND HIS TEAM ARE VERY NICE THEY ARE HEAVEN SENT. HE HAS ADDRESSED THE RISKS INVOLVED BUT I FEEL THAT I AM AT MORE OF A RISK WITHOUT THE SURGERY. I WOULD HAVE TO ALSO THANK MY PRIMARY DOCTOR, DEBRA KING, MD SHE FOUND DR. ALI FOR ME SHE PERSONALLY WENT ON THE INTERNET TO FIND A GOOD SURGEON. I WOULD GIVE DR. ALI A 10 PLUS!
