Dr. Ali is very thorough and highly competent. He put me at ease right away but was very up front about the pros and cons of the surgery.

The Hamot Bariatric Center is well run and very helpful. All the staff is very supportive and accessible for questions or concerns.

Dr. Ali insists on careful follow-up after surgery. He laid out clear goals and procedures for me to follow concerning exercise, diet, and follow-up. He has strong expectations that his patients follow the rules.

He is an outstanding surgeon and has very good bedside manner. He seems to really care about his patients.

Dr. Ali is a very soft spoken man and seems to be a very caring man. He also seems to be very honest and thorough. He has made me feel at ease in regards to the surgery and will do what he can so that I can have the surgery laproscopic. I have had only one meeting with him to date. He is however, taking time to go to Jamestown, NY to speak to the support group that I attend. He answered my questions and I feel that he was very honest. I asked him his mortality rate and he told me that he has lost 2 patience and both were diabetics. He did however yawn a lot when he was talking to us in a group, but it was just after lunch. The office staff is great! The nurse herself has had the surgery and knows what you are going through and is sensitive to that. I will add more as I have had more interface with Dr. Ali and his staff.

I have met with Dr. Ali to sign all of the consent forms. He was very informative and a very kind and caring man. He keeps up with the latest in regards to the surgery and I feel very comfortable with him. His staff is the greatest. They are also very informative and help with any problems. I am very greatful for Dr. Ali and his staff. Also the staff at Hamot hospital are for the most part very friendly and helpful. I know that I have made the right choice and would recommend Dr. Ali to any and all.

Dr. Ali is very friendly, easy to talk to, and he spends a lot of time making sure you understand everything about all the possible surgery types before you make up your mind.

His office staff is wonderful and helpful. Even one of his nurses had had RNY.

I actually first met with Dr. Ali's partner, Dr. Arreola and was very impressed with him. He was very knowlegable and very honest and open about the risks and complications of having WLS. When I went to the support group meetings I was able to talk to Dr. Ali and get to know him. He too was very knowlegable and very honest about al the risks and complications. Both Doctors are very expierenced and made me feall at ease. I will have Dr. Ali do my surgery to because he preforms the surgery laproscopicly and Dr. Arreola only preforms open surgery.
The office staff have been great and very helpfull they all seem very nice.
I would rate both these Doctors 9 on a scale of 1 to 10, I will write more after surgery and see if there is any change in that rating.

Now that I have had mr surgery I would give Dr. Ali a score or 12 on sacale from 1-10. He is very careing and concerned for his patients and wants to know that they are being taken care of properly. I was in the hospital over the weeken and it was his weekend off, so Dr. Arreola who is his partner was covering for him. He called me at the hospital both days and talked with me and also with the staff to be shure I was being properly taken care of. He has been great.

My first meeting with Dr.Ali was wonderful, I found him to be very easy to talk with and a Dr. who showed a deep concern for my weight issue. For the first time in my life a Dr. finally agreed with me that diet is not enough for me to lose this amount of weight.Dr.Ali's office staff was a very friendly and caring staff, and they made me feel so welcomed and important.
Anyone in the Erie area, should not hesitate to go and see Dr. Ali about weight surgery, you will be very glad you did.By the time I left his office I was so relaxed and so looking forward to setting a date with him for the surgery with no second thoughts , he was very imformitive on the WLS procedure, he answered all my question and concerns at that point. just as I am sure he will answer any new concerns or questions I might have for him. Dr. Ali was very strong is his emphasize in the before care and aftercare of the WLS. Even to the point that he highly recommended that I read to different books to help me understand the surgery in full detail. Along requirering me to attend at least 3 support group meeting there in Erie prior to the surgery its self and then Highly recommended that I attend support group meeting on a reqular basis.
On a scale of 1-10 with 1 begin the least and 10 the best, I would have to say that I find Dr.Ali to be a positive 10. I would highly recommened him to all who are in need of this surgery and care. Dr. Ali, addressed the issue of the risk factors for this surgery is great detail. to the point bless his heart he has ordered test for my heart, lungs, internal organs , and has even looked ahead for the possibility of Blood Clots to the requireing me to have a Greenfield Filter but in a week before the surgery date.
I will update more information on the Dr. after the surgery is done.

Competent, Patient & Knowledgeable! Just a few of Dr. Ali's qualities. I have nothing but praise for him...now. At first, I was a little reluctant but he brought me through some very difficult months of illness. A very busy man, so you must learn to be patient as well. He will go to great lengths to get you the type of care you need, no matter what stage you are in after surgery.

Office staff is great (Myrna is the best)! He has a very structured aftercare plan. Attending the post-surgery meetings are VERY important to him. If you miss any, be prepared to be questioned as to why. Dr. Ali's bedside manner is one of the best I have ever seen. VERY professional. He does expect you to follow his instructions and there is very little room for compromise.

My biggest complaint would be the waiting. He is very booked up and there is a long wait for surgery. Not to mention he is a little slow with doing the necessary letters for insurance purposes. At the time, I was very unhappy with that. I now understand, knowing how busy he is with everything else.

As of October, 2004, Dr. Ali has moved to Erie, PA. Some of what I have written may not apply to Dr. Ali at his new location. He performed my surgery November, 2003 in Kansas City, Mo. All of his 'old' patients miss him very much!
