Respectful , emphatetic and knowledgeable also has surrounded himself with great nurses and uses the Wellness Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for a complete an thorough pre and post-op program. Has done well over 300 lap/gastric bypass surgeries and everything he said was accurate. In and out in 2 days w/o complications. Post-op and after care are mandatory and vital for success.
Dr. Nagel has both skill and agreat bedside manner. I was very impressed. I'm also a nurse and a graduate of Northwestern University and would not consider any other facility or staff. The Wellness Center has an organized, efficient and knowledgable staff of Physicians, Dieticians, Pschologists to cal upon at any time as well as group support/classes where you learn from each other which are the greatest.
I love Dr Nagle. He made me feel comfortable and belive it or not made me feel very beautiful inspite of the fact of being 310lbs before surgery.
It has never changed and somtimes i flirt. he smells so good and handsome.
The DR's and staff at northwestern belive of teaching before surgery. very strong on education about diet before and after surgery.
This is a life-style change not a diet or something that you can reverse. you have to want this change and be prepared. they will not perform it if you are not ready. The Wellness center where i go the stress the inportance of your diet after surgery and they stay with you for a year after surgery and all the will they are teaching you.
They answerd every ? i had (not to scare any one but we know the risk of this surgery "death") the explaine all the risk in full detail.Dr Nagle gets an A+ with Honours. Both are great. because if you get a patient like me who was fine until my surgery date which was 4-26-04 i thought i had something in my throat. but doc came in with that smile and eased my fears.let me know that every thing was ok and even sent the dr in who would render me unconcious to double check to make sure.
My first impression of him was that he was extremely competent, confident and professional, not to mention good looking! He got right to the point, was honest and I felt I could trust him. On the day of my surgery, I was terrified and he was so reassuring. His office staff and nurses are the same, professional, competent and extremely helpful. All my paperwork was completed quickly and efficiently and his nurse even helped me find a new primary care physician who was sympathetic to bariatric patients (my pcp decided to back out of HMO IL and left me with no one to follow up with). Dr Nagel is at Northwestern Memorial and the before surgery screening and aftercare are extremely comprehensive. I was screened by a dietician, bariatric M.D. (other than Dr. Nagel) and psychologist prior to being approved for surgery, then attended four classes and had two more individual sessions with the Doctor and dietician before surgery. There was also a multimedia presentation available on the internet that was required by Dr. Nagel prior to my first surgical appointment. THis presentation was over 40 minutes long, interactive, and went over the entire procedure, including check-in to the hospital, exactly what would happen during and after the surgery and every risk possible due to the surgery. There are after surgery support groups, dieticians and nurses you can call 24/7 and follow-up care continues for one year. I would rate Northwestern's bariatric surgery program and excellent - 10 out of 10, and Dr. Nagel as a 10, also. His competence and bedside manner are both great. Final note, Dr. Nagel only does laproscopic RNY surguries. There are other surgeons who do open procedure RNY. I honestly do not have anything negative to say about Dr. Nagel or his staff. However, I experienced a great deal of pain afterward and the morphine pump I was given did not help. Also, I developed a urinary tract infection from the foley catheter they used to keep my bladder urine free after surgery and wound up in the emergency room 6 days after surgery with a high fever and dehydration. So everything wasn't wine and roses. But I honestly say that the care I got from Dr. Nagel and his staff was top notch.

Dr. Nagle is very informative and a great listener. He take time to understand and answer any questions and concerns. I am going through the program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Although it takes quite a bit of time to reach your surgeon appointment, it is worth the wait. Dr. Nagle has been working with Dr. Muryama for the last 3 years. Since Muryama left Northwestern, Dr. Nagle has taken over the majority of lap rny. He has done about 200 in the last year with Muryama. He has alot of experience with laps and higher bmi's.
