Dr. Ezra Teitelbaum, Bariatric Surgeon

Ezra Teitelbaum, MD, MEd is a board-certified surgeon practicing at the Northwestern Medicine Weight Loss Surgery Program. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Medical Education at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).

He earned his medical degree at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed his residency at the George Washington University Hospital. Dr. Teitelbaum went on to earn his master's degree in education at the University of Cincinnati and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed a second residency at Northwestern University, McGaw Medical Center and fellowship-trained at the Providence Portland Medical Center, Portland, Oregon.

Dr. Teitelbaum’s research activities focus on surgical education and esophageal physiology, including the use of real-time intraoperative measurements to guide surgical technique and decision-making. He has authored over 45 articles, books, and chapters.

Dr. Teitelbaum is known for his dedication to medical education amongst his peers and his care and compassion to his patients. With his specialty in the minimally invasive treatment of obesity, he performs weight loss surgery procedures of the Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band, and weight loss surgery revisions. He also performs the Endoscopic Intragastric Balloon. Dr. Teitelbaum is also highly-skilled in treating inguinal hernias, abdominal wall hernias, gallstone disease, GERD, hiatal and paraesophageal hernias, and achalasia.
