I liked Dr. Abkin from the first time I met him. He was very friendly and took his time to answer all my questions and explained everything to me detail by detail. I felt very comortable with him and after speaking with Dr. Abkin all my fears about having the surgey disappeard. His staff was wonderful too. They were all very friendly and understanding.rnThe day of the surgey I was nervous but before being taken into surgery Dr. Abkin and the doctor assisting him came to visit me. Again, Dr Abkin explained what was going to happen and I once again felt 100% confident that everything would be ok. After the sugery Dr. Abkin was there when I woke up and visited me the 2 days I was in the hospital. The day of the surgery I was up walking around. The funniest thing I remember is when I was first brought to my room I had to use the rest room and was told to wait for the nurse (of course I didn't listen thinking it would take forever for a nurse to come) I got up and went and as I was walking to the restroom here came the nurse (yes I was caught LOL). She could not believe that after a major surgery I was up walking around on my own. I remember also I started losing weigth immediately. I remember looking at my watch and seeing how it was fitting loser.rnTo me Dr. Abkin is the best surgery in the world and the baratric surgery is a good option for people who can not lose weight. If you have the surgey make sure you do it for you and no one else. I did it for me and I am glad I did. If you do decide to have it research the surgery, the doctor snd the hospital. I researched the surery for 3 years before having it done and still read up on it.
Dr. Abkins is the best great bedside manor which is important for any Doctor. The office personal is great they work with you and are very efficient. For any patient who has an interest he's great!! They are very informative about surgery and any reservations you may have he and parterner and staff will take the time to answer!
He is the greatest surgeon. He is very patient, understanding and willing to ask questions. His staff has been wonderful too easy to make appts and generally caring people. I would definetely recommend this surgeon and his practice Advanced Laporoscopic surgeons. He did a wonderful job....no complications! They have classes before surgery and explain everything they even go over everything you will be given during your hospital stay. You even get to check over the doctors orders at the final class. He has such a high success rate and he is truly a blessing.
Meet Dr.Abkin at the Seminar last week of March. Thought he was great, ans. all questions the group had for him and expressed that the Lab Band was a Tool, not a magic bill.rnBoth he and his staff, including the Insurance Dept. could not do enough to accomidate you. rnOnly saw Dr. Abkin for a second before my surgery for him to say hi. Then off I went to the OR room.
Update 04/23/07: Still love Dr. Abkin but am TERRIBLY bummed that he no longer accepts my insurance. He has been dropping out of insurance plans left and right lately so make sure you check to see if he accepts yours! I may have to look for another surgeon now. I will have to see. I do have out of network benefits but I am not sure I want to pay 20% of another complication like I had in Feb '07.rnrnDr. Abkin: My first impression of him was that there is just something about him that makes you like him. He is very friendly, has a good sense of humor, knows his stuff. As an added bonus, after a while you also realize how devastatingly handsome he is (I understand this is not at all relevant but, hey, I thought some of you might like to know...). I went to see him for the first time in June of 2005. I did not go to see him again until December of 2005 and I pretty much assumed that he would not remember me from Eve. But he actually did which impressed me. I also assumed he would not remember me when I went for my one month post-op appointment (if you have ever gone to his office, you would know what I mean...HERDS of people go in and out of there all day...how could he remember everyone?!). Not only did he remember me, but he commented that it felt like more than a month since he had seen me (which it was...it was 6 weeks). So, again, that impressed me. And his blue eyes REALLY impressed me but, okay, enough about that. I think he is a fantastic, highly gifted doctor. I am saying that because I am currently a 2-month post-op with nary a complication. How would I describe his office staff? Hmm...well, let me point out the highlights. The guy that takes your vitals (blood pressure, pulse, weight) is named Nino. He is awesome...always courteous and upbeat. The lady who submitted my insurance is Kathleen. At first I have to admit I hated her (because she submitted my forms almost a week later than she said she would). However, AFTER that I thought she was wonderful. She was NEVER rude to me the 7,245 times I called her before I got approved. So...snaps to Nino and Kathleen. Now...the front-desk staff? I am not too impressed but I think that is because they are SO SWAMPED (again...see herd comment above). They are probably really great but just have zero personality from being frantic all day (that is my guess, anyhow). Overall, I give Dr. Abkin and his staff two thumbs up. I am so glad I chose him and would recommend him to anyone seeking WLS.rn
