Daniel B. Jones Bariatric Surgeon MD, Chief, Bariatric & Minimally Invasive Surgery

I met Dr. Jones 12-31-01 , I found him informative, respectful of my ideas and questions. Dr. Jones explained my options clearly and clarified without talking down to me. He carefully, without rushing me through, explained the different procedures available, he shared them without bias.He drew diagrams and outlined the risks/rewards as well, to help me manage my expectations. He is pleasant,direct,open, and straight-forward. He was also clear in what he expects from me as a patient as well, which I appreciated. I feel confident in his skill and comfortable with him and his staff.Lois is kind, friendly and helpful, David the financial director seems to be on the ball and willing to discuss the process and options open to me. They do have a before and after care support system and encourage participation.I am in the early stages of the insurance approval process. So far , I highly recommend this team of caring professionals.I have read many fine things about this group and the care before, during and after, from others who have posted.

I was very impressed with Dr. Jones. He was straight-forward and to the point without being condescending. He took all the time I needed to answer all my questions.

I was also impressed that he didn't try to sugar-coat anything. He pulled no punches and told me the bad along with the good.

A co-worker had a successful lap RNY with Dr. Jones in February and had done much research before chosing him. I would have reached the same conclusion even without the benefit of all of his research.

I waited for this initial consultation for 8 months. Although I'd really like to get this ball rolling, I'm glad I waited to get THE surgeon I wanted.

I loved Dr. Jones as soon as I met him. The first doctor to come in looked so young that I thought this is NOT Dr. Jones. But it was a resident. Dr. Jones was running late but I could tell he just got out of surgery because I could still see the surgical gown print on his hands. He was nice,and very knowledgable about the three obesity surgeries they perform. He spent a long time with me and answered all my questions. He stressed to me that gaining a lot of weight between now and surgery was NOT an option and to begin an exercise program now! He told my mom that if I don't start one before my pre-op then he will postpone the surgery and he told my mom to stay on me. Well, let me tell you, I started exercising that weekend. He also stresses nutrition and has a wonderful aftercare program with his partner Dr. Provost. I feel very confident in his abilities as a surgeon. I think he is the type of doctor who would provide a kick in the butt if I started slacking and that is what I need. His office staff David and Lois are the absolute BEST.I can't say enough wonderful things about them!

Dr. Jones is younger than I thought he would be. He seemed "rushed" when he talked to me about the surgery, even though I was with him over an hour. He was very thorough. Lois, his assistant, gave me a lot of valuable information and a phone number and e-mail to contact her at any time.

I just can't say enough about Lois and how wonderful she is with insurance companies. She is amazing!

Dr. Jones has a group that meets the second Tuesday of every month for pre-op patients and the fourth Tuesday of the month for post-op patients.

Dr. Jones was very specific about the risks of surgery and that no one ever plans to be one of the people with problems! Always be prepared to be the one with the complications!

My first impression of Dr. Jones - that he seemed rushed - did change over time. He proved to be VERY thorough as well as a GREAT doctor. He was able to handle all of my father's interrogating questions at the pre-op visit. *grin* He called me and even came to the hospital on Saturday (surgery was Thursday) to discuss possible options including a transfusion. I was just very comfortable with him.

I went home on Sunday and he called a few hours later to make sure everything was going alright. I thought that was VERY nice!

My first impression of Dr. Jones was that he was a very busy man. On the day of my initial consultation he was back and forth between me and the telephone where he was gathering information on one of his patients who had began having problems. He ended up having to leave our first meeting early but made sure his nurse came in to speak to me and answer further questions i had. It made me feel good to see how aggressive he was in collecting information about his patients condition and how he rushed off without hesitation to help her. I feel comfortable putting my well being in the hands of Dr. Jones.

His staff was a big help to me in getting the needed information to my insurance company as they requested it.

When i was speaking with Dr.Jones he drew me a picture of the internal alterations which he would make in order to effect weight loss for me. He was very honest about the potential complications of the procedure and the life style changes which i would need to make following the procedure.

Attended his free public seminar on the 4th Tuesday of each month at St. John's Hospital at Inwood/Harry Hines Blvd (just east of I-35E) at 6:30pm in the Auditorium.

I was so impressed with both Dr. Jones and Dr. Provost I knew I wanted one of them to do the surgery. They are both in private practice but also instructors at Univ of Texas Southwestern Medical Center for Minimal Evasive (Lap) surgery. I felt that as a team, they were very experienced in Lap even though their total RNY surgeries are less than others who specialize in Open RNY surgeries in the area.

The only negative thing is the wait to see him. Since he has fewer patients, he does accept insurance and is liked so well, he is difficult to get an appointment with. I will say that as cancellations came open I was given the opportunity to move my consultantion date up .. which I did. I am anxious as I have already been approved for another Dr. who does not accept my insurance, but that Dr. office has never called to tell me I was approved.

First impression was good, he was informative and kind. There was a mix-up with his office and my scheduled date, so the first visit was a bit hurried. I will get more information at a later date.

Staff was cordial and helpful.

Verify with his office your schedule appointments before the date.

He has a before and aftercare program, I liked that. He addressed the risks, but we didn't get to go through them in detail because of the scheduling mix-up. They will be addressed.

Dr. Jones was on time, professional, and to the point. He explained the procedure concisely, answered my questions completely, and treated me respectfully. His office staff was equally as professional.

Some would sy that a 100% possitive rating for a surgeon could be suspect, but I must say that Dr. Daniel Jones is about as close as you will get. He is Kind, Patient, informative, and an expert in the field of Laparoscopic surgery and Gastric Bypass, a Proffessor in both of these fields at Southwestern Medical University. His staff is very friendly and informative. All of these people must never sleep because they ALWAYS had time to answer any and all questions. Dr. Jones and his staff took alot of time emphasizing the importance of after care and not hesitating with any and all questions. Which is better, surgical competence or bedside manner? My opion is COMPETENCE! But, you will truly get the best of both worlds with Dr. Jones. As far as I know, he teaches at Southwesern Medical University Hospital and Zale Lipshy University Hospital and the atual surgery is performed at Zale Lipshy University Hosital. This is a VERY nice hospital in downtown Dallas. He is highly regarded by every indivial on the staff that I talked with. Interns, residents, nursing staff, even the cleaning staff! Everyone loves this guy. Even one of the students that was walking me over to pre-admittance(please excuse my typing, its 4 am and I have just been released from the hospital afew hrs ago!)asked who my surgeon was and I said "Dr. Jones" and he said "oh, you are so lucky to have dr. Jones, he's the best professor at the University. It's really hard to get ito his classes. He teaches classes that are based on very medically advanced technologies. He's an evpert in minnimally invasive procedure and doesn't even allow residents to assist in his surgery. How did you get in so fast? His waiting list is 8 mos? " Well, I got really lucky. Dr. jones nurse sent in my requesst @ the 14th of April, it was approved in 2 DAYS!(united Healthcare YAH!) and they called me on Friday and said the had a cancellation and did I walt it for Tue April 24th!!! YAH!!WOW! TAlk about lucky!THe negative I have to add is that the waiting list is VERY long but woth it for such a highly regarded surgical team (he does the surgery with Dr Provost, another proffesor)

Dr Jones / Provost group was referred to me by another WLS patient using Dr Provost. He was high risk so Provost was his doctor. By high risk I mean he had other health problems and excess weight was well over 250 lbs .. he weighed over 500 lbs.
He raved about the team. I was accepted and Dr Jones was my doctor. He was very straight forward and spent as much time with me as I desired. He did not rush me. He allowed me to ask all the questions I needed to.
He gave me back my life.
He spent 2 extra hours in surgery prior to WLS cleaning up scar tissue from other surgeries and freeing up my back so I could walk without pain again. He didnt need to do this to complete WLS but he did it anyway.
I had no problems after surgery.
MY husband and I returned for the 10 day appt to remove the staples (67) and he talked with us for at least an hour about anything we wanted to talk about even our garden. He is amazing. I have never been to a doctor that personable. You would think he didnt have other patients. He has many and treats them all the same.
I rate him the best surgeon I have ever been to and I have had several surgeries!
