Daniel B. Jones Bariatric Surgeon MD, Chief, Bariatric & Minimally Invasive Surgery
I was really nervous about meeting Dr. Jones. I was very nervous about everything in my life at that time. I didn't trust anyone. It didn't take long for him to put me at ease. He is very caring and a wonderful surgeon. I guessed that he was really a busy man, but he took his time w/ me and answered all of my questions. His staff at UTSWMED ctr in Dallas, was knowledgable, curteous, and helpful. Lois is my guardian angel here on earth (at least during that point in my life. The only thing that I was not wild about w/ Drs. Jones and Provost was that their wait for surgery was so far out... I wanted it done "NOW!!!" I felt that they were well worth the wait (3 mos for initial appt and surgery) I know that is relatively short for surgeons of this caliber......
There is a support group for WLS patients thru the hospital and aftercare is highly stressed. (I did not get that benefit, I was in hiding). I understood all of the risks of surgery, up to and including death. I knew I was going to die without this surgery!
Being from the north, and having traveled quite a bit when my dad was in the military, I felt quite comfortable with Dr. Jones. I don't know how I could rate his overall performance, cos I don't know how to rate EXCELLence. I would have this surgery again, without all the life drama, with Dr. Jones. I was very comfortable with him and would highly recommend him to anyone pursuing this weight loss tool.
These are my own personal views, experiences, etc w/ Dr. Jones. Your Mileage may vary!
I never met Dr. Jones before the surgery. I called his office several times before my actual date, and finally talked to him the Friday before my surgery. He did offer to postpone the surgery for me so we could meet, but at that point, I was such a nervous wreck, I didn't want to postpone it - he was very nice on the phone, but he was a bit flippant. The thing I always learned was that you have to make a surgeon see you as a PERSON...with a job, family, talents, failures, etc....because a lot of surgeons think of you as a body part that they are focusing on. He was better than that, and I didn't see a God complex, but I could feel a lack of patience for my wanting to talk about how I felt....hey, he's a GREAT surgeon though....really great. My impression of his skills has only increased -his bedside manner could use a little work. By contrast, Dr. Sanchez, his "fellow" has a great bedside manner, and seems genuinely interested in anything you want to talk about. So they make a nice team. And Dr. Sanchez is a lot easier to get a hold of by telephone, too. She certainly seems knowledgable.
My first impression of Dr. Jones was that he was overweight, himself, yet insisting I exercise 30 min/day for 30 days before he would do surgery on me. I had a hard time walking, let alone exercising.
Dr Jones was caring, & supportive, once I got through the surgery.
Lois Hill, RN & the other employeees are very kind & efficient.
Dr. Daniel Jones left for Harvard, now. So I have lost my surgeon.
Dr Jones encourages continued diet, exercise, etc. He does have a structured aftercare program & support group that he introduces to you in the beginning.
Dr Daniel Jones is direct, & tells all the risks, etc. up front.
I believe Dr. Daniel Jones is a good Bariatric Surgeon...all was good.
Dr Jones is a wonderful, though strict doctor, who truly cares that you understand what you are about to do. He and Dr. Provost worked together on my surgery so I could have Lap RNY, even with all my co-morbs. I must also commend Lois, their assistant, for all the help she gave me when my insurence was late in getting my approval letter back to them (Aetna's fault). She kept me sane, though I think I drove her to the edge.
Also he has a set schedule for follow up visits, and pre-op and post-op meetings monthly with info and visitors to help us with our to weight loss journey. Overall,I give him and his employees a very high rating and would be glad to recommend him to others. In my opinion, his only draw back is that he is busy and can seemed a little rushed at times, though if you need to talk, he will stay and hear you out completely.
I first met Dr.Jones at a meeting at St.Paul and I really was impressed about how professional he was and he really seem to know his work...I then set up a consultation and his staff was very nice..when I went to the consultaion he made me feel very comfortable--he did inform me of the risk and also descibed about the after care--I would give him a 10+ I would recommend him to anybody..
I like my surgeon...Dr. Daniel Jones. He is a very straightforward surgeon and highly skilled. I was very impressed with him the first time we met. He knows how to clearly describe and explain any surgery related concerns or questions you have. He was very insistent on exercise and behavior modification of eating food PRIOR to scheduling surgery. I would highly recommend anyone to Dr. Daniel Jones!
Dr. Jones was by far the most competent surgeon of the three I met with. I really liked the fact he and Dr. Provost showed the actual surgery at an informational meeting.
Dallas is much closer to Tyler than Houston, so I have the opportunity to have supportive friends and family come be with me.
Dr. Jaykumar in Houston also gets big points for sensitively and thoroughly answering questions. The decision came down to who was closer to Tyler, and who my personal physician felt better about. Dr. J's office staff was fantastic, though, and I will forever be greatful to them for obtaining the initial approval with BCBS of MA. It made the fight with the January 1st insurance change to CIGNA PPO much easier. I was also very impressed with their aftercare program - very structured and very supportive. They also schedule appointments with stages present. (I was there at the same time as a pre-op, an immediate post-op, a 1-month post-op, a 3-month post-op, and a 6-month post-op...patients that is.) This made asking questions much easier.
I met with Dr. Jones for the first time after waiting 7 mos for my consultation, on Jan. 9. He was very professional, straightforward, thorough about the procedures, recommendations and expectations. He is definitely all business, but then again, I only met him that one time so far. I will see him again tonight in fact, when I go to an informational seminar. His office staff are very, very nice. The insurance person, David Morris, is super as well as his lead bariatric nurse, Lois. I feel that the whole staff shows a strong sense of competence, compassion, and willingness to do what is best for the patient. I am currently awaiting insurance approval to get my surgery date.
