Craig Kolasch Bariatric Surgeon MD
I am a current patient of Dr Kolasch and had surgery a few weeks ago. I cannot say enough great things about him. My surgery went well and he really tries to do what is best for the patient.
His bedside manner is wonderful and he got to know me as a human and really helped me choose the correct surgery for me.
The office is not exactly friendly but his RN Jennifer is very nice and helpful.
He and Dr Vollenger do not do everything the same which I appreciate because they do what they feel is best for themselves. He always explained things to me.
Anyone going to him should feel they are in good hands.

I had a weird experience coming to meet Dr. Kolasch, but I think it went well.
Originally I went to see a well practiced Bariatric surgeon that was close by to learn about options. I liked the guy and started the process, got a barium profile, labs, psych testing, started the 6 months of nutrition appointments, and was on the way.
Then one day he was just gone, had left the practice and I like probably every other patient was scared. The options I had would be to essentially start the search over for a new doc and lose the med diet plan, or take a step of faith and meet Dr. Kolasch. I read his history and greatly respect him for his service to our country and the lives he saved while deployed.
He trained and worked at a well respected facility and worked with Dr. Voellinger. Southeast Bariatrics in Charlotte. Southeast Bariatrics had purchased the practice I had gone too, but most of the staff stayed the same which I liked.
I scheduled an appointment and met Dr. Kolasch, gave him a quick synopsis if my goals, asked him about his technique and felt satisfied with his answers. We agreed that I picked an appropriate surgery and was a solid candidate for success.
I recognize that some people put a ton of stock in number of preformed surgeries as the "lead doc", but remember in this day and age that if a company give a doc a practice to administer them that doc is squared away.
I also like that his background is diverse and he has had the opportunity to see both the older techniques, but is young enough to learn some of the newer advances. He was concerned with GERD as a issue so he prescribed a great medicine that I took the day of surgery and have not had one issue with reflux ( I am thanking God for that). The pain is definetly manageable and I was walking within 4.5 hours of surgery.
Every surgeon has to have a starting point, and although he isn't old enough to have done thousands of VSG's his technique is sound, he is slightly conservative ( but backed by research and not opinion), and his bedside manner was a good match for what I was looking for.
I don't have any regrets about choosing him and the staff is awesome. They have a great understanding if approval related issues and I was approved the first time I requested with no appeal needed. This is good news, because they only requested ( and did not get my hopes up) until they knew it would go through. Thus I was approved and ready to go first try with a BMI was 40.5 which is pretty close to the lower limit.
They use myChart for communication with patients which I love and are really good at getting back to me in a timely manner, have a in house store and nutritionist, lots of informational seminars, and are easy to work appointments.
Overall a very satisfactory performance. His bedside manner is funny and if your a guy(or a woman) he might be a great fit for your doc as he relates well.
