I was very impressed with Dr. Lavin from the first time I met him at the seminar. He was so real. He talked about how he understood the struggle with weight and even shared some personal things about himself. He was not in a hurry and answered each and every question honestly and thoroughly. At my consultation, I was very happy with his office staff and the care I was given. Dr. Lavin treated me very respectfully and had a great bedside manner. He let me decide which WLS I wanted. Although he does many types, he didn't try to influence my decision at all. He didn't rush me or hurry me out. My only complaint was that I was there for several hours and most of that time was spent waiting in the waiting area. Even though I've looked at other doctors because I am self-pay I keep coming back to Dr. Lavin because of his reputation and my comfort level with him and his staff.
After attending a few seminars in my area, I chose Dr. Lavin as my attending surgeon. He was the best choice for me. He was very friendly, understanding and possessed that self confidence which, I need in a surgeon. Being in the healthcare profession, I shopped very carefully for my surgeon. I chose to go out-of-network with Dr. Lavin which, meant that I had to accept reduced benefits. However, I have no regrets thus far. The office staff is extremely busy but most friendly and helpful. If I had to pick a least favorite quality, I would have to say that waiting for to see him in the office is often time consuming and can be inconvenient for my tight schedule. Future patients should know that he as well as his staff are always willing to go the extra mile to meet the patients needs/requests. He certainly is very talented and knowledgeable at what he does. The entire office is very upfront with the course of post-op care and invite any questions/concerns. The aftercare program is structured consisting of support groups and informational seminars. Dr. Lavin was very open about discussing the risks of the procedures he performs. He also took the time to address possible prognosis as well as additional procedures warranted to handle various complications, which could arise. He definitely gets a 10/10 in my book. While I certainly think that there needs to be a balance between competence and bedside manner, I think surgical competence is more important to me! In fact, I did not see Dr. Lavin while I was an inpatient (post-op). I saw one of his associates who, was equally as knowledgeable and most compassionate and understanding. The team is great!!!
I'm reserving my judgment until after the surgery.
When I first went in to see Dr. Lavin's I was a little hesitant since I didn't know much about him. When I met him my mind was immediately changed, he was wonderful. Dr. Lavin's took alot of time with me explaining and drawing the procedure out until I understood what was going to be happening and felt comfortable with the procedure. I was also very impressed with his office staff. All of his staff is very friendly and very eager to help. I would definately refer any patient to him and I am very proud to say that he is my surgeon. Once my surgery was done and I was in the hospital Dr. Lavin's was very attentive to my needs. If I had questions he was there to answer them. I have been very pleased with my experience of weight loss surgery.
Dr. Lavin is very supportive, caring, understanding and calm but with the perfect balance of upbeat enthusiasm. You get the impression from your first meeting that he sincerely wants to guide you through this life-altering journey, and you know he and his staff will be right there with you every step of the way. He called me personally at home a few days after I was discharged to see how everything was going, and whenever I've had questions, his staff has immediately helped me and even followed up to see how their advice worked. His office is beautiful, and it is conveniently located near the hospital in Covington. Dr. Lavin is a lifesaver in the truest sense of the word.
My personal experience with Dr. Lavin is that he is very professional while possessing a very personable manner. I continue to be impressed with him. His staff is eager to help, excited for you, and very caring and patient. I thought during my approval process the patient advocate department could have been better informed but I am tough grade on this as I worked in the insurance field for several years. What I like most about Dr. Lavin is that he specializes in this surgery alone and is also a national proctor. He also has very steady hands! LOL He patiently went over all of my and my husband's concerns until we felt comfortable and spent personal time with me going over the consent forms. He empahsizes aftercare with a passion. He has told me many times about the importance of aftercare. He has a very detailed planned aftercare program and offers support groups and clothes swaps. He addressed the risks of surgery in a professional manner and took all the time we needed for questions. I have never felt that he was rushed but that his time with me was just that - his time with me. On a scale from 1-10, so far he gets a gleaming 10. I believe he's is one of the best surgeons in the country for this procedure and his bedside manner is stellar! I know this seems difficult to believe but it's all true!
My first impression of Dr. Lavin was he was awesome!
My impression has not changed at all. He performed my surgery and I still think he is awesome.
His office staff is incredible. From the front desk, to the patient advocate department to his nurses.
He is very competent and a wonderful person.
Aftercare is emphasized at the beginning. They encourage you to stay in the aftercare program. Although, I missed my last appointment and am due for the 6 month. Nobody has called to schedule but, this is really my responsibility.
Yes, they have a structured aftercare program.
The risks were all laid out on the table. All my questions/concerns were addressed at length. I had no reservations after I spoke with him and his nurse practitioner.
On a scale of 1-10, 10 1/2!
I think surgical comepetence is most important. It is only a plus to have a doctor with a great bedside manner. And Dr. Lavin does.
