My first opinion of Dr. Perez, was that he was really young, I worried about how many cases he has already done. I thought I was going to get Dr. Marema, but my insurance would only cover Dr. Perez. He turned out to be a really good doctor. I am very pleased with his support and care.

The staff at the Bariatric Center are very encouraging, most of them had the surgery themselves, so they can really relate to the patients. Everytime I go to get weighed in and measured, I actually feel really confident and estatic.

If you are considering the open RYN, I highly recommend Dr. Perez. I have nothing negative to say about him. Dr. Perez is very strict about the aftercare program. I have seen other patients on this website that supposedly can eat anything. Dr. Perez and the Bariatric Care Center have done several studies and have found the successful way to lose the weight safely and quickly, is to follow the all protein diet until you are at 75% weight loss. I hate all protein, but it has been very successful for me.

When I first went for surgery consult, I was considering the Lap Band Surgery. After going through the patient info class, I decided that I should inquire about the open RNY. Dr. Perez agreed with me, because the open RNY is more successful at resolving my comorbilities. He was right!

Dr. Perez's bedside manner is excellent, although sometimes he is a little bogged down with too many patients. But I think he really enjoys his job. Wouldn't you if you were responsible for saving so many people's lives.

Well, I just found out who my tentative surgeon is. Dr. Perez in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. I am still awaiting approval though. U.S. Bariatric has been wonderful so far. They answer all my questions and they do return calls that same day!I will keep you posted on my journey!
10/31/02 I had my nutrition and pre-op appointments today. I finally met Dr. Perez and was very impressed by him. His office staff is exceptionally punctual and very informative on procedures, delays, timelines, and general information. All of my questions were answered today and all of my fears set aside. He honestly emphasized the risks of Lap vs. Open procedues and really enforced the importance of after-care and the whole support system necessities. I would rate him a 10/10.

Post-op now. Dr. Perez was awesome pre-op but I haven't seen him since surgery. I did complain to the office that I felt he should have done rounds in the Hospital at least once. I did get to met all his partners though so that was a plus. I feel very comfortable with the whole staff now so thats a good thing.

He seemed a little overwhelmed and perhaps overworked. Pleasant to talk with, answered my questions truthfully. Did not brush away my fears and concerns. I have heard wonderful things about him and several people I have spoken to have highly recommended him. Dr. Perez has a great bedside manner, the warmest eyes and he seems to really care about his patients. This is truly a man who has touched so many lives and offered them hope. I know he gave it to me.

The group has a very structured aftercare program and before program. They speak of all the pros and cons to this surgery including the risks. I am well advised as to the potential problems as well as the wonderful benefits of this "tool".

Overall, I would say US Bariatrics here at Holy Cross Hospital has their act together in helping me meet the challenges of a new life.

Post-op udpdate. Dr. Perez was wonderful. He got me through without a problem as he assured me he would. I would recommend him to anyone who is considering this surgery. The man is great.

Dr. Norman Samuels:The first impression I had of my surgeon was actiually funny because the first thing I said to myself was Damn he's short! How is he going to reach the table by foot stool?
Over all he was very stern very to the point no beating around the bush as far as the surgery what happens afterwards what could happen and stuff like that. I had no dislikes. Future patients should know that Dr. Samuels does not sugar coat anything.

Dr. Perez is a nice guy and a compitent surgeon. I have only met with him twice, once at my pre-op appointment and once 10 days after surgery. His associates, Dr. Benitez and Dr. Diaz made the rounds in the Hospital and they were very skilled as well.

Dr. Marema is the founder of the practice (I think) and I had my 1 month follow up appointment with him. He is very personable and has a no nonsense attitude.

US Bariatrics (the practice where my surgeon operates) has their stuff together. They school their patients well on pre and post surgery care. While they don't ever answer their phones, they are timely in returning your phone calls, which is greatly appreciated.

I am very pleased with the treatment I have received from this Doctor and the Associates and I would recommend this office to anyone across Florida considering WLS.

The office is a well oiled machine and I must say that at the begging I felt a little lost and just like another paitent. My care was wonderful and I felt the surgery was done well. When I got home from the hospital for the first two months I was really sick and I needed to see the doctor on several different occasions and that was when I realized that i really liked dr perez and that he was very important to me.

The aftercare program is great and the whole office is there to answer any questions you might have.

I met with Dr. Perez on October 17th, 2002. I brought my husband with me as well as a typed up sheet of questions I had for Dr. Perez.

I must have asked him thirty questions regarding the surgery and he answered every one like a pro.

I finally made my decision after that appointment. I'm having the surgery.

So far, he seems like a competent doctor. I only met him the one time.

I will be going back next week for my pre-op physical, so I will get to know him a little better then.

He is part of the team at US Bariatric in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. I was very impressed with him and his skills. He has been trained by Dr. Marema the founder of the group and is well qualified just like all the doctors in the group. He was very supportive and I would not hesitate to stay with him except he works in Ft. Lauderdale and I live north of Orlando. I now to followups with Dr. Krahn who works out of their sattelite clinic in Orlando which opened in July of 2002. The staff at both clinics is very understanding and supportive, many of whom are post-op patients themselves. I have experienced complications for the first two months following surgery and they have all been wonderful. They showed genuine compassion and care and have stuck with me tenaciously to determine and resolve all issues. I thank God for them!! Their support groups and programs pre-op (they informed us of all possible problems and how they can be avoided and/or resolved) and post-op were excellent and I have determined that I will take advantage of everything they have to offer. It keeps your goals fresh and dynamic; if you are not growing in mind, body and spirit then recovery will be long and difficult.

I trust them with my life and I have recommended them to my friends and family.

Overall I would have to say "the best around."

The incision is getting better every day. Dr. Perez authorized my working for the Post Office delivering mail on a temporary fill in basis. I feel that the nurse was a bit upset about my request for a fax to authorize my new job duties due to the heavy lifting that will be involved especially when she did it half way and had to do it according to the Postal Service's standards. Oh well, I fought for this one and I better make it count.

My first impresson of Dr Perez was that he has kind eyes and a mellow demeanor. His office staff is huge, I have never seen so many in one office before. They are all friendly and upbeat. Their pre-op and post op support are what brought me to this office, US Bariatrics. There are many specialists..nutrition..excercise..nursing...even a full time non denominational chaplain. Seems to be a well oiled machine :)
Risks of surgery are explained very well. There are extensive pre-op classes to attend where they leave no stone unturned. There is also a full compliment of post-op meetings and support groups. I feel that surgical competence, bedside manner and full support are what will make a successful WLS journey. I do believe that the team at US Bariatrics has it all.
