I love my doctor. He is a great surgeon. He is the top guy and is highly published. That said that was not the reason I chose him. I used to work in a department of the hospital near the recovery room. I saw his patients come out of surgery and followed them in the hospital through the computer system. They never seemed like they were in any pain and were always out of the hospital with in a day. I worked in the Surgical ICU. His pateints NEVER ended up in our unit. rnHe has a wonderful after care program. His staff is friendly and helpful. I had a problem with a drug test after surgery...his nurse bent over backwards to help me get the information I needed. Dr Tichansky has the best bedside manner I have ever seen. He is honest and will tell you exactly why he does what he does. He has a very low complication rate. I have seen this with my own eyes. I think he is the best surgeon!
DR. MEILAHN WAS VERY NICE, INFORMATIVE AND TO THE POINT, IN WHICH I LIKED THAT. HIS OFFICE STAFF WAS VERY COURTEOUS, AND FRIENDLY AND NYEESHA EXPLAINED EVERYTHING IN DETAIL. THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THAT I WAS REALLY DISPLEASED ABOUT HIS OFFICE OR STAFF. DR.MEILAHN DEFINATELY EMPHASIZED ON BEFORE AND AFTER CARE BUT HE DID TELL ME THAT THIS SURGERY WAS A SERIOUS AND MAJOR SURGERY AND THAT THERE WAS GOING TO BE ALOT OF WORK FROM MY END BUT IF I WASN'T READY MEANING THE NEXT TIME I COME IN HIS OFFICE AND I HAVE GAIN ABOUT 30 POUNDS HE WOULD NOT OPERATE ON ME BECAUSE IT WILL BE A WASTE OF TIME. HE EXPLAINED ALL THE RISKS TO THE SURGERY AND THEY SOUND PRETTY SCARY BUT I KNOW GOD IS ON MY SIDE, I WILL BE OK. I WOULD RATE HIM OVERALL AS A PHYSICIAN.........EXCELLENT!! SURGICAL COMPETENCE & BEDSIDE MANNER IS BOTH VERY IMPORTANT.
So far my experience with Fresh Start has been very positive. I met Dr. Myers at a seminar I attended in November. He made sure to answer any initial questions anyone had and stayed after to answer more personal questions. His staff has been responsive and easy to deal with. We had a mix up in the scheduling of my all day appointment which included psych eval, lab work, nutrition and fitness counseling and a comprehenisive appointment with an Internal Medicine Dr.. I had written down one day and they had another day. When I showed up, Annie made sure I was included with the rest of the group that day and the staff went out of their way to make sure I was seen by everyone. They recognized how hard it is to get away from work for a whole day, so they fit me in and made it work.rnrnThe program is very comprehensive and I was very impressed that they require you to go through a 3 month nutrition program before they will schedule you for surgery. Some insurance companies do not require a doctor supervised diet before approving, so technically you could go in, get approved and have surgery soon after. Fresh Start makes sure you are ready and they make sure you make the necessary changes in your diet before you have surgery, to make it easier to afterwards. rn
I honestly can't say enough good things about Dr. Myers and the Fresh Start Bariatrics staff. Dr. Myers is there to make sure you have long term success. I had been to other seminars, and Dr. Myers was not only there (at the others, the surgeons were not at the seminars), but he led the entire seminar explaining everything more thouroughly than anyone ever had. He has a personal interest in this because he has watched his parents suffer with obesity. I was very impressed!rnrnTheir program prepares you so well for surgery and post op. He is kind, and truly cares about your success. rnrnDr.Myers and Mike, his assistant, saw me before surgery, and twice after surgery that day, and each day in the hospital. Then, you are given Dr. Myers cell phone number in case you have any problems when you leave the hospital, you will be able to reach him directly. rnrnI was so comfortable knowing Dr. Myers was perfoming my surgery. rnrnI would highly recommend Dr. Myers and Fresh Start Bariatrics to anyone considering surgery. They are all wonderful.rnrnDr. Myers was even at the support group meeting! Thank you Dr. Myers!
Dr. Tichansky has been great from the very beginning. He's been attentive to all my questions and concerns. He's been very prompt on returning my phone calls. My first impression of him was that he was extremely intellegent and well informed on all aspects of WLS and Multiple Sclerosis (a disease that I also have and have had since 2001). My impression of him has not changed at all about him over time except maybe that he is even a greater doctor than I initially thought. I guess the thing I liked least about him is that he didn't express too much concern when my 1 year labs came back alittle abnormal. One thing I would say that future patients should know about Dr. Tichansky is that if you are not familiar with the Germantown/Memphis area, his office is extremely difficult to find. Dr. Tichansky really emphasizes aftercare to you from the minute you wake up from surgery and you are able to talk to him and understand what he is talking about. He asks how you are feeling and then he starts talking about the next steps. He made me feel very safe and like I was in good hands. During all of my appointments before surgery, we talked about the risks of having WLS surgery. He allowed me to ask any questions that I had and he addressed them. Then he gave me all the information that I had not asked about and even went back and touched on things that we had talked about in previous appointments and conversations. During the process of getting ready to have WLS, I saw Dr. Tichansky and his then partner Dr. Madan. They were both competent but Dr. Tichansky had the better bedside manner and seemed to be more knowledgeable about other diseases. Dr. Madan recently made a move to a clinic in Miami but when I did see him at UT Medical Group, I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with him. Dr. Tichansky has both surgical competence and bedside manner and is great at both. I have many doctors due to my many health problems not associated with my weight and Dr. Tichansky is by far my favorite out of all of them. He's always gone above and beyond to help me and answer all my questions. I have recommended him to several friends and family members that are seeking out WLS.
DR MYERS IS A GREAT LISTENER! AFTER THE SEMINIAR I SPOKE WITH HIM ABOUT MY CONCERN OF PCOS. I LIKE HIM BECAUSE HE HAD DEALT WITH PCOS PATIENTS. I WAS UNSURE ABOUT WHICH SURGERY TO HAVE AND HE KINDLY SAID YOU THINK ABOUT AND I'LL DO MORE RESEARCH TO DECIDE WHICH OPTION WOULD BE BETTER FOR \"YOU\"! THE TEAM IS GREAT AND I NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM GETTING A CALL BACK.
My first impression of Doc M was a little scary, he was so straight forward and honest about everything. My impression changed when I went to sign the papers confirming my surgery, he sat down next to me on the table and I thought that was cool. His staff is great especially nurse Laurie! He is REALLY strict and militant, he doesn't wanna hear whining and crying, that doesn't cut the mustard for him. All I can say is, I am 9 months post op and 120lbs lighter, He is my dude...
