My first impression of Dr. Tichansky was that he was caring, helpful, and knowledgeable. My impression only increased in my admiration of Dr. T. The office staff is also first rate. They promptly answer any questions you have and help with applying for insurance. Our daughter is in the process of getting her insurance approved and the staff is so very helpful. Can not think of anything that I dislike about him or his staff. You walk in the office and are greeted with smiles and a big welcome. Aftercare is very important to Dr. Tichansky, he has a structured program and follows up to see that you are following directions. As you progress each change in the diet is completely discussed and explained. The risks of the surgery was discussed in full down to percentages of those who died. Dr. Tichansky's surgical competence and bedside manner are both great. He discussed in detail the procedures he was doing and why he did them that way. He came to my wife's room the morning of the surgery and walked to the operating room with her because he knew she was a little nervous. He is a hero to both myself and my wife.
My comments are true, my wife and I agree about what I've written. The comments are about what we experienced and the care given to us was wonderful. You can be suspect all you want. Dr. Tichansky called our home several times to make sure we were OK. How many doctors do you know that do that.
Just remembered one thing I don't care for and that is on office visits sometime you have to wait for Dr. T. because he has been held up in surgery but all doctors and patients have to contend with that every once-in-awhile.
I will repeat, these comments are our personal impressions and our personal experiences and we do not know what other people may have experienced
When I first met Dr. Meilahn I was immediately made aware of his professionalism through his mannerisms and explanations of the procedure. Over time, my impression of him has only gotten better. He is very professional, and very prepared to let you know both sides of this particular surgery. He doesn't sugar coat anything. He's very protective of and concerned about his patients. I loved how he came to the hospital to see me every day and especially how he wanted to be the one to give me my first sip of water following surgery. He wants to be an active participant not only during surgery, but after as well, and that means a lot.
He relies heavily on his wonderful staff. I, having worked with doctors, see this as a great quality. By relying on his staff, that frees him up to do what he was trained to do, and he's a great surgeon. He's very humble about his capabilities, and will be the first to tell you that he's not perfect. But then again, no one is and I felt as though I was in the best care I could be.
He and his team work very well together. Each person has their particular tasks and offers something to the mix, so to speak. They all are competant, professional and great to work with.
I am thrilled about my decision to go with Dr. Meilahn
I switched to Dr. Meilahn in Apr., 2004. Did not feel like old doctor (Dr. Manigat -Voorhees, NJ) was prepared at all and didnt feel a need to pre-op test hardly at all. At my first visit, I was awestruck at the size of Temple University, but I liked the fact he is affilated with Temple. I did wait about 30 minutes past my appt. but not a big deal. His receptionist are cool, they are efficient and joke around with you which is something I LIKE. I am a joker and sarcastic and like people who can keep up. Once I met Dr. meilahn, I liked him a lot. I got a kick when he came in and asked "what can we do for you?" I was thinking to myself, "cut this extra 200 pounds off me?" He seemed very well prepard, did not try to rush you, drew diagrams, explained in detail....all the things you. I even found out his assistant surgeon/Dr. lives in the same town as me. He spent about 30-45 minutes with me. I then met Nyeesha, who is the BOMB!!!! She is super efficient and answers any questions you have. Overall I loved the office and have every confiedence in the world that if anythng does happen, I will be in good hands.
I only saw Dr. Meilahn for my consult and I was referred by another Obesityhelp.com member and I felt comfortable to have been able to talk to him , He explained the surgery in plain english and took his time with me and He actually took time to respond to my e-mails I had sent with Q,s. I don't know what else to say ,He's a winner in my book
My first impression of Dr. Meilahn was that he has the rare combination of being a good surgeon (by reputation) and a warm, caring person. He made me feel at ease with his sense of humor, but did not minimize the seriousness of this surgery in any way. He explained the procedure, the potential risks, and gave me plenty of opportunity to ask questions. The other members of his staff include Vicky and Dawn, the nurse practitioners, Kay, the dietician, and Nyeesha, his administrative assistant. I met Vicky during my initial consult, and she reiterated what Dr. Meilahn stressed: the success of this surgery depends as much on the commitment of the patient to follow through with lifestyle changes as it does on the surgeon who performs the operation. At a mandatory pre-op class, Dawn spoke about many of the specifics of the surgery - both pre- and post-op. My husband went with me to that class and I think it was very good for him to hear all about the good, the bad and the ugly. I met with Kay, who reviewed my eating plan beginning immediately post-op, and continuing after I get home. She, too, was very warm, as well as knowledgeable. Finally, Nyeesha somehow keeps track of the paperwork for an unbelievable number of patients, and always manages to be friendly, courteous and on top of things. I had no worries about anything in my chart being incomplete. She took care of the insurance submission and I had my approval in 2 days.
Overall, so far my impression of this entire office has been nothing but positive.
He definately was a listener and was willing to take his time to explain things. But his office staff were sooo great especially his NP Vicky! She was sooo thorough that I wouldnt consider using anyone else. They explained the risks involved and at this point have a 0 percent mortality rate on the surgery and I am hoping it continues to stay that way. They want serious follow ups and set you up with a dietician for life. The NP even gave me all of her contact numbers in case I have any concerns or questions. I would absolutely without a doubt encourage anyone in the Philadelphia Area to check him out. I will let you know more once I have the surgery.
