McCarty Weight Loss Center Bariatric Center
Dr. McCarty is a really good surgeon, I felt extremely comfortable in his hands. I was his 4th VSG patient and did not have one qualm about him doing a new procedure on me. He is a cancer surgeon as well as a bariatric surgeon, he has done over 7000 surgeries and is always expanding his knowlege by visiting other docs to learn new stuff and he also teaches other surgeons as well. Personality, he is a nice man, concerned about your welfare and helpful. He has the typical surgeons demeanor, I think he would rather get on with fixing the problem at hand. A man of action. He was very helpful and informative during the weightloss surgery seminar at Baylor. I was suprised that the surgeons ran it...I guess I didn't expect to see him until my consultation. He has also been in the city magazine \"D\" listed as one of the top surgeons in Dallas as voted by his peers. I'd go to him again without a seconds hesitation.rnAftercare is stressed and you will see more of his PA's than him, but you can make an appointment with him if you need him. I felt fully comfortable in the PA's aftercare too.
I researched Dr. McCarty carefully and am confident in both his surgical skill and position as a leader in cutting-edge bariatric surgery techniques. UPDATE: However, I will say that I am extremely disappointed that I haven't seen Dr. McCarty since my consult in May. For all I know, one of the residents performed my surgery. Unfortunately, Dr. McCarty nor the residents assisting him met w/my family as they said they would following surgery. If you like to have a relationship with your surgeon, I would suggest you look elsewhere. If techinical skill is important, then I firmly believe Dr. McCarty is among the nation's best.
My first impression of Dr. McCarty was that he was a very professional surgeon. I saw him at a seminar that his office conducted. Dr. McCarty is the third bariatric surgeon I have seen. He was by far the most professional and knowledgable. My impression has not changed over time. He was very informative (althought I did not have many questions) during my consultation. He is nice, but not too personal. When he came to the hospital to check on me, he was cordial and helpful. From what I have heard, his office staff has recently had many changes. They seemed to be understaffed during the time I was waiting to be scheduled for surgery. Hopefully now that they have moved locations and are settled, they can work on their personnel. I have nothing negative to say about Dr. McCarty. I know other people who have had problems with his lack of personal attention, but I have not experienced this. I am still a new post op (9 days) so I am not sure about all of the aftercare. I have an appt with Dr McCarty next week. I do know the Baylor support groups have meetings quite often at all the hospitals, but I have not been to one yet. Overall, I think Dr. McCarty is an excellent surgeon. He is a well known, top notch doctor in his field. His bedside manner and surgical competence are both good and I would definately recommend him as a bariatric doctor.
I had my surgery done on April 13, 2005. Todd McCarty was my doctor and he was great. His office staff is awesome and celebrated my weight loss with as much enthusiasm as Dr. McCarty did. McCarty is a very devoted physician, this is not just about money for him, it's about saving lives and helping those who want to help themselves.
He was very upfront about the surgery, (he actually did the seminar and I was blown away by his presentation) letting everyone know upfront that this was truly a major life changing surgery. He did not sugar coat anything and actually showed a surgery he had performed. He was honest about his mistake in judgement and very emotional about a patient he almost lost. His bedside manner was awesome, and so far I've had a great experience with him.
My first impression of Dr. McCarty was great. He was very informative and answered any and all questions that I had to the best of his ability. You can count on him to be informative and funny to help reduce any stressful feelings you may be having at the time. He made it a point to stress the risks of surgery and afterwards. He has a great physicians assistant "Kristen", who is just the best as well. The entire office seems to be just as supportive from the nurses to the Dietician. Thanks a lot Baylor WLS Dallas! I love you all.
LIKED HIM IMMEDIATELY. VERY PERSONABLE AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. INFO SEMINAR VERY INFORMATIVE- RISKS, ETC DISCUSSED IN DETAIL. GOOD AFTERCARE PROGRAM. BOTH SURGICAL COMPETENCE AND BEDSIDE MANNER
EXEMPLARY. DR MCCARTY WAS ABLE TO DO MY SURGERY LAPROSCOPICALY EVEN THOUGH MY BMI WAS EXTREMELY HIGH. NICE OFFICE STAFF.
I was referred to Dr M by my mom's surgeon in Las Vegas, Dr. Barry Fisher. She is 5 yrs post op and doing great (in size 8 pants, too)! I know that with the huge surge in interest in WLS, lots of newbie surgeons are getting into it.
I did not want to help someone get good at this, I wanted someone who already was.
Dr Fisher rec'd McCarty and Provost, I went with McCarty simply because I went to his info seminar first and liked what I heard.
I have only heard great things about McCarty & Co. from a technical standpoint- they are the go-to guys for Lap RNY! Looking forward to a consult and hopefully quick surgery date....
Dr. Todd McCarty.
Professional, caring, expert surgeon.
My impression was validated over time.
The office runs like a fine tuned machine.
He is so popular I had to wait a long time for my turn.
You can relax and trust him. You've made the right choice.
Strongly.
Yes, meetings are once a month on a Thursday. There are support group meetings for pre-ops, post-ops and family and friends. There are several locations.
On a scale of 1-10 - 1 million.
Both great. You can't go wrong with this doctor!
Nice. Hurried, but nice. He knows what he is doing, is confident and seemed willing to answer any questions I had. His staff is nice too. I think I will be able to write more about him after the surgery. But, so far so good.
He's one of the best in his field. When he did a friend's surgery, he got called into an emergency and didn't come out to talk with us. He also didn't send someone out to tell us he had gotten called away to an emergency. This caused a lot of stress for her friends and family. He later explained to my friend that this never happened before. After reading other reviews on this website, I decided not to change surgeons. I wanted someone with an Oncology background and he fits the bill.
His staff is amazing. They are courteous and prompt in returning calls.
He's so popular that he seemed a bit rushed for time. He did answer the questions I had for him. Perhaps he didn't take as much time because I had already done my homework on WLS.
Baylor has a well-structured program. This includes nutrition and psychological classes prior to surgery as well as support groups post op. There is also an online support group.
As far as surgical competence, he's one of the best. He said he quit counting after 1,000 surgeries. I work with a number of people whom he operated on and they are all pleased. I will get back to you with bedside manner post op.
