The Reading Hospital Weight Management Center Bariatric Center
I met with Dr. T about two weeks ago. He was very professional, and took a lot of time with me to go over all the details of surgery as well as answer any and all questions I had from all the research I had done(I had a 3 page list!) He really listened to me and to my concerns, and he put me at ease. I feel very confident in his abilities, and he has a very "human" side to him. I felt he truly cared about my situation, and when he told me he thought I was a good candidate for surgery it validated all the reasons I had wanted to go for the surgery in the first place. I'm scheduled for surgery for a laparoscopic RNY on Nov. 7th... I'm looking forward to the beginning of my "healthier life" :)
I met Dr. Tichansky in July of 2003, he is part of NJ Bariatrics. I felt there was an instant connection and was very happy to have him as my surgeon. I had done a lot of research on this type of surgery, the pros and cons and the nutrition supplementation that would be necessary (both before and after). As we talked, I felt that he was honestly interested in what I had to say and in the background work I had done. He made sure that I was informed ahead of time (as much as I could be)of what could and should happen, to "me". As we discussed the information I had gathered and what I expected to get out of this experience,
I became more and more convinced that this was the person to help me along the next part of my journey! I knew what the surgical practice looked for in a partner and had complete confidence in my doctor's capabilities. Dr. Tichansky has an intense interest in his patient's wellbeing at all stages of their progress and process. He encourages them in their nutrition and in how they can best help themselves both before and after their surgery.
Dr. Tichansky outlines all aspects of the operation and what the patient can expect (as much as possible). He'll tell you what the risks are and makes sure that you understand all of it. He wants his patients to succeed in all aspects of their procedure. This includes pre-testing and aftercare. We've discussed how best to get protein and the importance of hydration, which are two areas that can be difficult in the first few weeks of post-op care. His post-op visits in the hospital are wonderful! After the surgery was finished, and I was in recovery, he took all the time my family needed to detail how everything went. (I remember seeing him in the recovery room and him telling me how well everything had gone!) He visited me each day and quizzed me on how I was feeling and being treated. We talked again about what I could expect and what I should do when I got home. Again, he validated my knowledge and shared how it was such a great key to my quick recovery.
The staff at his office is very friendly. They are (all) truely compassionate and knowledgeable of all phases of this process. Absolutely top notch all the way around!
I would recommend Dr. David Tichansky and NJ Bariatrics to anyone seeking to have gastric bypass surgery. There is a patient education seminar every month for those who are pre-op and those who are just interested in finding out more about the procedure. The doctors attend these sessions along with many post-ops. Indeed, it's run by some long standing weight loss surgery patients. They answer all questions and go over what you can expect every step of the way - the good and the (sometimes) not so good. It becomes a safe place to learn and meet the surgeons.
