Nicholson Clinic for Weight Loss Surgery Bariatric Center
I had researched WLS procedures and doctors for the past few years before deciding to go with Dr. Nick Nicholson (Nicholson Clinic, Plano, Texas). I am very happy I did. I actually met with Dr. Nick a year ago, but then wasn’t able to have surgery done. This year, when I met with him again for a pre-op office visit, he remembered who I was and what we had discussed the year before. Both visits with Dr. Nick were somewhat brief, but he did allow me to ask all of the questions I wanted. His office staff was able to speak with me further, and they remained available to me by phone or email.
On my surgery day, Dr. Nick met with my wife and I before I was taken into the OR, explained to my wife what he was about to do, and made sure we didn’t have further questions. I was told the following day that my surgery went very well (a reminder that the pre-op diet is done for a reason).
• I’ve been to Dr. Nick’s office a few times, and his office DID NOT have an “assembly line” feel to it. I had been to other offices when researching a doctor for this surgery, and some were so busy that they seemed to be trying to get as many people through as possible – not to discount their skills as doctors, just an observation as to how their offices felt.

Love, love, love this group at Dr Nicks. They are all there for you from beginning to ...! I only have great things to say about them one year post-op. As for myself, I am not so loving. Still trying to meet my goal. I am only 30# away, but menopause and hormones are killing my diet, not to mention Ambien food raids while I am asleep! Hope to get back on track ASAP!!!
The Weightloss Clinic at Baylor Plano works together to manage all aspects of your journey. From scheduling to nutritional counseling. Didn't feel the nurses listened about the uncomfortable bed or med needs but that could have been I was in so much pain with being off my RA meds.

Had a fabulous experience with Dr. Long at Sibley Hospital in DC. He was caring, direct, kind, and extremely good about answering questions. the office staff is above-average. it's a small-ish program so there's a lot of attention paid to each patient. Brian Wallace, the FNP who runs the program was always available on the phone for questions, concerns, fears, etc. very friendly and knowledgeable and i felt very well taken care of.
dr long has great surgical competence and very good bedside manner. one issue i did have in the hospital was not getting some maintenance medications with very nasty side effects if stopped suddenly, which was a problem that i've addressed with him
i would go back to dr. long and the program at sibley without hesitation. from surgeon to office staff it's a top-notch program.

Dr. Nick is awesome!! Love him!
So far things have gone great. He was great when I met him and his office staff is nothing less than amazing. His insurance lady, Lisa, has been great and I couldn't make up my mind which surgery to do but she has been so patient and kind. I am very happy with it right now and I am set up for surgery June 6, 2011!! They got me approved in a month's time.
I met Dr. Nic at a seminar in Plano at the Baylor Hospital there. When I met Dr. Nic, he was very funny but very truthful about which surgery would be right for us based on our eating habits.
I realized at a later time that Dr. Nic is a very busy man. His PA, Ms. Burns has been excellent in seeing me since the surgery. She is the nicest lady you will ever meet!
The office staff is very friendly, the chairs in the lobby are extra large so you dont have to wiggle your way into the small chairs at regular doctors offices.
There is nothing I did not like about Dr. Nic. He smiles a lot and seems to enjoy helping people achieve their goals.
I haven't really seen Dr. Nic except for at the seminar, pre-op and the day of surgery. My aftercare is with his PA, Ms. Burns. She is excellent and has a lot of time to sit with you and discuss your diet and nutrition and gave me advice on other ways to get my protein shakes down (this helped a lot)
I actually chose a different doctor but I couldnt get any calls back from them. The did not seem interested in having me as a patient. I looked up bariatric surgeons that took my insurance and he was on the list. I set up an appointment for the seminar, gave my insurance information and they were fast and very informative. I recieved many calls from their office as far as what I needed to get done for the insurance company and even set up my appointments and gave me names of doctors that deal with Dr. Nic's office. IT WAS GREAT!!!
I think that Dr. Nic is a competant doctor and has his bedside manner too! If I had to do it all over again, I would choose Dr. Nic 100% of the way.

When I first met Dr. Nicholson, my first impression was that he was younger than I expected, but full of energy and passion about weight loss surgery. He seems to really believe in what he's doing, and conveys a sense of caring towards his patients. He's definitely a "no BS" guy - he pulled no punches when he talked about the risks of surgery, but also about the risks of continuing on with life as an obese person. He told us that WLS is a tool - a great tool - but only a tool to help us change our lives. He went on to say that if we would commit to the entire package, including committing to the aftercare part of the deal, the tool would help us to succeed, and to change our lives.
When I started dealing with his office, I learned that many of his employees have had weight loss surgery themselves. This means they understand where you're coming from, and are very empathetic. The folks who handled the insurance qualification for me were great, kept me informed every step along the way, and I was able to get approval the first time we submitted. They know their stuff!
When I met with him for my consult, he again went over the details of the RNY procedure, the risks, and the long-term changes that it would require from me. I liked him even more, and was glad I'd done my research to find him.
Surgery was successful, and I had only minimal pain post-op. Really, only the largest of the incisions caused any pain, and Dr. Nick had told me it would be the worst one ahead of time. Both he and other members of his team visited me in the hospital afterward, and all of them were great.
I'm trying to think of anything negative about the whole experience, but I truly can't come up with anything. Dr. Nick is a great guy, and I'm extremely happy that I chose him to do my surgery.

First impression was that Dr. Nick really cared about his patients. The office staff is prompt. There is nothing I didn't like about Dr. Nick. If you are considering surgery through self pay or insurance Dr. Nick is the one. His bedside manner can't be beat and his competence and experience are worth traveling for...if you must travel!

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Nick & his staff! He was very professional and informative. He answered all of my questions and helped me make the decision about the right surgery for me. Dr. Nick might not really be a "hand holding Dr. Marcus Welby" kind of doctor, but he is outstanding at patient care and surgical skills. I had no surgical complications after surgery at all. I am so glad that I found Dr. Nick and would choose him again!
