The Kane Center Bariatric Center
Ihave not met Dr. Kane as of yet. I just been in contact with Ilene and Ginney at Weight for Life. Waiting on insurance approval. My experience with Ilene is that she promise to call you back with updates on insurance approval but never call back. Will post back later this week with insurance update. 10/16
I have now met with both Dr. Kane Jr, and Sr and they are both very friendly and very sincere. I've not had much interaction with the office staff, but Ginny at Weight for Life has been AMAZING! There is a structured aftercare program, but I'm involved in that yet as my surgery isn't for another 3 weeks. All of my questions have been completely answered, and the risks of the surgery (as well as the continued health risks without the surgery) have been explained to me.
I first met the Drs. at one of their open seminars for new patients and people considering surgery. Dr. Kane Sr. is all about the surgery and Dr. Kane Jr. is all about the people. Together they are a great team. The only part of working with them that's difficult is their office manager is in California. Ginny is wonderful and she bends over backwards for you, but the time difference caused a few mini-crises trying to get paperwork and appointments settled. This was probably worse for me because I was working with drs. outside of my HMO group.
They have their own team of doctors and professionals to handle every aspect of pre-testing and aftercare, and it's all part of their program, so you don't need to waste time trying to coordinate everything yourself.
If I had to do this over again, I would chose the doctors again in a second.
Dr. Kane was very informative and very supportive. I told him that I wanted the surgery and that all I was waiting for was the approval from the Insurance company. He said "They have to cover it! It is a medical necessity.". I wish I was as confident as he was. His office staff was nice and Ginnie (Ginny)(?) was helpful. He has done this for 30 years or more so he must know what he is doing. I got his name off this site and called him the same day. His staff said I had to go through Ginny but set up an appointment for me the very next week. I just had to tell her the appointment was made. They have an extensive program with groups meeting on Saturday's. You also meet with a nutritionist and a psycholgist.
I liked bothe the father and the son, they are very reassuring. I did not see their office staff before the surgery but all testing and all other professional contact was very positive. Between the doctors info and pre-surgery meetings and the internet and everything else I could read about the surgery, I felt very well prepared. Aftercare sessions are every other week and are stressed. I only had surgery 6 days ago but so far, so good. I am pleased with my choice of doctors. I was not used to not seeing the surgeon personally before a surgery but did see him at the seminar and felt reassured to see the people that came who had lost a lot of weight and appeared to be happy and healthy.
I contacted Dr. Kane's office after reading comments about him and his staff here. I also checked their website (Weight For Life), and knew I wanted Dr. Kane to perform my surgery. He has 30 years experience, and his son has over 15.
The coordinator, Ginnie, took a couple days to get back to me, but once she did, everything moved quickly. I was scheduled to see Dr. Kane, and once the surgery was verified approved (by phone), they scheduled my surgery too. I was impressed and thrilled. I'd already waited so long for Dr. Alverdy's office to schedule me, and Dr. Kane's office gave me a date immediately.
I am now scheduled for a pulmonary test, and to attend a group support meeting this Saturday (June 10th).
