When I first met Dr. Syn, I was a little concerned that he was almost too busy to give any individualized care. This; however, has not been the case. Dr. Syn is very busy, but he always takes the time to answer my questions and provide guidance.rnrnDr Syn's office staff has always been very pleasant to me. Allison, the Nurse Practitioner (and also a patient) has been very helpful providing information and looking after me. She and Dr. Syn are both very busy, but they do take the time the need with their patients.rnrnThe aftercare program seems to be good so far, but I can't say for sure until I have been through more of it.rnrnDr. Syn made the risks of the surgery quite clear along with the risks of not having the surgery. I think he wants all of his patients to make an informed, conscious decision about having the surgery.rnrnI would rate Dr. Syn as excellent.rnrnIf I had to choose between bedside manner and surgical competence, I would definitley go with the latter every time. I was pleased to discover that Dr. Syn was great on both counts~
Dr. Syn and his staff are awesome. My first impression of him was at an information seminar. He came across as knowledgable and informative. My impression has not changed in the time since - I still think he is excellent.
He is extremely cautious about everything - before surgery, in-hospital, and post-surgery. He goes to extra lengths to make sure that the risk of complications are as minimal as possible. He stresses aftercare and follow-up.
I rate him very high in both surgical competence and bedside manner. I highly recommend him to anyone considering this surgery.
Dr. Syn and his staff are wonderful. I didn't do a lot of research of doctors, but had several friends who recommended him to me. I agree with them. He is knowledgeable, upfront, easy to talk to, and very supportive. I adore his nurse practitioner. Her expertise and experience is beneficial. Both have wonderful bedside manners. If you live in West Texas or Eastern NM, he is your guy!
The first time I saw Dr. Syn was at his educational seminar. I was extremely impressed with his knowledge and ability to pass that knowledge along to the public. He answers all questions in a clear direct manor. He is a straight shooter. Each time I see him I gain more respect for him.
I really like his staff as well. Chad is always so friendly when you walk in the door or call on the phone. I don't think he has had a bad day in his life. I also love the assistant (sorry, can't remember her name...she's a cutie though). And Allison is wonderful. She definitely knows her stuff and is sooooo compassionate.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give the entire staff an 11.
Not sure if I will use Dr. Syn or not. He is not covered under my insurance, I am looking at several different docs, but prefer to stay at home. We will see!
My initial consult with Dr Syn was October 21. I was so impressed with his entire staff as well as with him. Dr Syn seems very caring and understanding, yet firm about doing what he says, which is the only way this surgery can work for us.
He heavily emphasizes aftercare and is pretty insistant about attending support meetings and following his 'rules'. He is very well trained in bariatric surgery and I feel very comfortable with him doing my surgery.
Of course, surgical competence is most important, but bedside manner makes things a lot easier, especially after a surgery like this one.
I highly recommend Dr Syn. His entire staff makes one feel at home and like 'family'.
My first impression of Dr. Syn was that he was very intelligent. I went to a 2 hour seminar during which he explained the Roux-en-y procedure in detail. He also discussed various other procedures both those that are new and those that are outdated. He was very thorough.
He spent a lot of time talking about why so many of us are obese. I thought I knew everything there was to know about obesity, but I did learn a few things.
His office staff is absolutely incredible! I felt like a person and not a dollar sign. They were extremely helpful regarding insurance issues.
Based on my personal meeting with him, I would say that he is very strict about aftercare and in fact told me that if I came back to him weighing more, he would not do the surgery on me. He also said that he expected everyone who goes through this procedure to exercise every day and be willing to commit to at least a one-year follow up program with him.
He was very up-front regarding the risks of surgery and said that it was not a quick-fix, but a tool to help those who chose to use it.
My personal meeting with him went very well. However, I would not call him a "warm-fuzzy" doctor. He has more of a straight-forward approach as opposed to a "supportive" one. I will have to reserve my final judgement on this issue until after I have another appointment with him.
I am looking forward to learning more about him.
As I am still awaiting a surgery date, I cannot speak to other issues.
I was very impressed with Dr. Syn and his staff. The seminar I attend was very informative. After he answered questions in the group, each of spoke with him inidividually. He is a strict Dr. and I do like that as that tells me he looks out for just YOU.
The office staff is very professional and know their job well and do a great job working for Dr. Syn. You can call and ask questions and if they dont know they will get back with you. I like that as we all like to be taken care of with our concerns.
There is not one thing I did not like about any of his staff nor Dr. Syn.
I think one thing I would like to express is his expertise in this surgery and his professionalism and matter of fact type of person. His bedside manners are great and he is so easy to talk to about any issue that you may have.
His aftercare is greatly structured. The nutrionist going over everything your eating and making sure you are doing everything you are suppose to be doing.
Dr. Syn went over the risks greatly in the seminar and gave us time to absorb it all and the risks involved.
I would rate him at the very top scale in my book. The highest I could possibly rate him.
I feel it is everything altogether, the competence that he displays and tells you just how it is, the bedside manner as he knows and understands what your telling him. He listens to you...has great concern for you as his patient...and that makes you feel good.
To Me Dr. Syn is awesome and I would highly recommend him to anyone that is considering this type of surgery.
