Dr Lautz was pretty straight forward and cut to the chase. He just wanted to make sure that I understood that I was going to have major surgery and I was changing my entire life by having it. I had two short office visits with him prior to surgery. Mostly I had discussion with one of the PA's named Gina ...who was very good also. On the day of my surgery Dr. Lautz was tied up in another operation and I was delayed for about 5 hours (it was a Friday the 13th!!!!)
by the time he got to me I'm sure he was exhausted. The nurses had asked him if he wanted to reschedule his next case (meaning me!) and he had said no that he was going to do me that day. I felt sorry for him because he'd had such a long day I would have understood If I would have had to be rescheduled. When he was finally able to operate on me he was very kind to me right before I went under the gas. He felt bad that I had been waiting so long. To top of his Friday the 13th...My spleen was in the wrong place (on top of my stomach) and he had to remove it before he proceded with the RNY. Boy he had a long day!!!!
My surgeon is Dr. David Lautz of Brigham and Women's hospital in Boston, MA. The office staff is EXCEPTIONAL (especially Amy) and very helpful, and personable.
Dates for consults, and surgery, are very prompt, and there are about a half dozen appointments that need to be done from the date of the consult to the surgery date. I would definately recommend looking around at the different options of surgeons and types of programs that you have to go through in the interum. Some offices/programs make you go through a 6 month evaluation, some 10 months, etc... Dr. Lautz's office informed me that from the 1st consult, I will have the surgury done in Nov (update... Nov 14th!!). So, I'm very excited.
I think that the trick of this is learning EVERYTHING possible before even talking to your PCP &/or surgeon about it. The more knowledged/determined you are about having this procedure done, the better you off you are in the long run :)
Good luck & love.
