Surgical Services of Sedalia Bariatric Center
Wow my first impression of DR. H. It was so funny cause he is so up on what he does. He told me everything before i could even ask. And when i did ask a question he patiently answered my question. I was so at ease. I could not believe it. Most doctors i have encounted barely takes the time to talk to you about much but this one is so different. and the staff i have emailed Dena so many times and she was so kind and patient with me. The rest of the staff was great also. I felt so good when i left that office. This is definitely a good place to be. I can't wait to have my surgery.
Dr. Horbostel. How can you explain someone so wonderful. He saved me from myself. He is very caring and EXTREMELY knowledged in what he does. I dont have any complaints about him. I used to think his appointments were way to backed up. But you know what if you dont have the time to wait for the very best surgeon then you dont deserve the best. The long wait was well worth it. I put my life in his hands and he came through. Lets not forget his staff. They all seemed very considerate of any problem you had and helped in a timely fashion. There was a time that I was in tears and so frustrated with the psychiatrist I saw and Dena talked to me and made me feel so good about the situation. That to me is priceless. On a scale of 1-10. I say they get a 15.
My first impression about Dr. H was that he really knew his stuff, but he was a signifigant distance away from my home. My impression of him only got better & better as we moved through the hoops toward insurance approval and surgery. What I liked best about him was that he NEVER judged me and always treated me with respect. His office staff is the same way. Always smiling and cheerful. What's not to like about someone who has literally saved your life? If you're considering Dr. H, go for it! I would go to him over and over if that's what it took. He's at the top of his game. He expects the best out of those who work with him and they are!! He's a leader and knows what it takes to put together a world class team that performs surgery over & over. He strongly urges his patients to come to every follow-up visit with him and to attend some type of support group meetings. He supports a monthly support group at Bothwell Regional Hospital. We worked toward a common goal of me having the surgery. He addressed each of my concerns and to my surprise, he remembered each of them every time we met. (in spite of having hundreds of patients) My biggest risk was that I was already a cardiac patient who had undergone quadruple bypass surgery several years ago. He worked closely with my cardiologist until my test results indicated that I was indeed ready for surgery. He also required a psych clearance and thanks to that I have a great therapist who is helping me deal with massive weight loss. How would I rate him? Like I've said, he's the best and at the very top of the game and his career (my opinion) Both his bedside manner and his surgical competence are so great that it's indescribable! He's that good. I'm about 10 months out from surgery and have never felt better. I recently traveled to California and was actually able to enjoy the trip. I walked the beaches, through the theme parks and tourist attractions. Since I had used a wheelchair for the better part of 10 years, this was monumental for me. The only unpleasant experience I had was with a nursing assistant at the hospital and obese patients seemed to repulse her. I reported this to Dr. H and he immediately looked into the problem. I'm quite confident that it will never happen again. (actually, I don't think she works there anymore or on that floor at the very least) During the course of my actual procedure, an umbilical hernia was found. Dr. H did a temporary repair and I plan to go back some time down the road for a more permanent repair. Will I have him do the repair? Absolutely!! I really can't think of anything negative that applies to Dr. H. rnThanks Dr. H!
I hope to have Dr Hornbostel do my surgery in future. I have worked with him and his patients in the past and know how kind, caring and knowledgable he is. I will be in the best of hands!rnSaw Dr.H. 01/03/07. I am now ready to go.rnrn7/16/07 Dr. H is awsesome!!!! He has taken care of all my needs and concerns from complications to trivial questions. I would do this over again with out question and only by Dr H!
Dr. Hornbostle was pretty impressive at the informational meeting. He rattled off the statistics in as far as insurance, success rates, diet after surgery goes. The group sure thinned out when he mentioned no more alcohol! He answered every question that was asked completely.rnThe people in his office are wonderful. I've called with the silliest questions possible and felt comfortable asking them.rnI have a lot of faith in Dr. Hornbostle's abilities. I'm awfully glad I do....one less thing to fret about!
First impression, was he knows what he's doing. My impression of him only gets better, and I've worked mostly with Marge and she is also great. I have no dislike for either. If you want someone who is competant, loving, sincere, don't look any further. I would rate both doctor and staff a 10+, I feel you need both competence, and bedside manner to be a great doctor and that is what Dr. Hornbostel is and he has the help of his partner in life and a good staff to have it all. Anyone looking for the best surgeon look no further, you've found him. Thank You Dr H for giving me back my life. Elizabeth Asleson.
Dr. Hornbostel is very informative. At the informational seminar he tells everything like it is. He puts it all out there and allows you to make the decision that best suits your needs. He is compassionate and caring. He has awesome bedside manner and it is obvious he truely loves what he does. He came into the hospital to discharge me on Sunday in his suit prior to going to church! I just assumed I'd see him after church.. and lunch and it would be a long drawn out day. He was there bright and early so I could go home before noon. I've seen him perform the Gastric Bypass Surgery when I was in RN School and loved his caring attitude. At that moment I knew I wanted him to be my doctor. I'm glad I made that choice. rnDr. Hornbostel's staff are awesome as well. Dena his surgical nurse helped me get my insurance approval which wasn't an easy task. She is also well informed and knows her stuff. We dealt with each other on many occasions trying to figure out what to do for insurance purposes and finally when she got the news I was approved, she couldn't wait to call me. She was just as excited as I was.rnDr. Hornbostel's WLS pre-op and post-op care are wonderful. He likes to keep track of his surgical patients long after they have had surgery. He wants his patients to be successful and gives them the tools to do so. I'd chose Dr. Hornbostel again in a heartbeat.
I was very impressed with my surgeon from the first time I met him. It only gets better from there. Dr. Hornbostel and his staff are the best. I was given the outline of what to do and when to do it. I followed the plan exactly. I was scheduled for surgery on May 14, 2007; but due to complications had to postpone it until May 25, 2007. On the actual day of my surgery I weighed in with 65 1/2 pounds less that my highest weight. I did not have any dislikes about my surgeon, or his staff. rnAftercare is extremely important. It was discussed all of the risks of the surgery and I knew prior to surgery, what could possibly happen. Dr. Hornbostel in my opinion is the best and gives the best advice, he expects us as adults to follow his instructions and as long as we do exactly what we are told we can be successful.rnIf given the opportunity, I would have gone and done this sooner. I just don't know if my mind set would have been right. I have the highest respect for Dr. Hornbostel and his staff.rnThe hardest part for me, is all of the food commercials on tv. Everywhere you go there is food, and you can not avoid it. I have never been able to lose weight and keep it off for very long. This is a life changing situation, and my life is changing already.
Dr. Hornbostel is probably the best surgeon I have ever known. He gives all his bariatric patients his home phone number as well as his cell phone after you leave the hospital. I had to call him the night I got home because I had a 102 temperature. After our initial conversation, his wife, Margie called me back to tell me they wanted to start me on an antibotic that night and that there was a Walgreen's open unitl 10pm (it was around 8:30pm) and she even had the address for the one here in town. Needless to say I have been very impressed with just how much they care for their patients and want them to succeed!
