Dr.throop,
Is my surgeon.

I feel at ease with him and his skills
staff are so informative the notebook of facts they give us to live by is great
they have a solid support system for after care
Dr. Throop discussed with me the dangers in detail
overall I would give him a 10 of 10
surgical competence as well as bedside manners are a must for me
so far my dealings are pre-op
My experience with Dr Throop and his staff have been wonderful. The whole process has been very structured with every question answered twice. They are very personal, informative, supportive and professional. From day one I have felt very confident about my decision, due to all the staff. After surgery is just as important as before and the center makes sure every need is met..
I would recommend Dr. Throop and his staff to anyone wanting WLS.
I liked Dr. Throop very much he was very easy to talk to. He's very kind and compassionate. He is also very dedicated to helping people with weight problems. His bedside manners are wonderful and he is a great surgeon.
Dr. Throop, Dr Royalty, and the St. Mary's Bariatric Center have a great program starting with orientation all the way through surgery and there monthly support group meeting.
This program is structured from day one. They explain all the risks before you consent to have the surgery. You are given a manual that explain what your needs will be in the hospital and when you go home. It gives you a complete guideline of diet progression for the next year. It also covers coping techniques and exercise.
The center has a dietitian and a social worker on staff to help with any problems or questions a patient might have.
Dr Throop is a well informed, caring doctor who put me at ease immediately. The entire staff at the Bariatric Center are wonderful. There is a support group available for post-op patients. They have just started an excercise program that I have joined. I am enjoying this immensely (I do not feel self-conscious as I would at a traditional gym). Overall I would rate the entire staff at a 10 on a 1-10 scale.
Dr. Throop was very thorough during our first meeting. I was very impressed with the way he took time to answer my questions completely and explain in detail the whole surgical process (and in a way I could understand) as well as the risks of surgery and what I could expect after surgery. He didn't use a lot of medical jargon. The only thing I wasn't told about was the possibility of infection which I would suggest should be included in any information given to prospective patients as it isn't a fun experience at all. My opinion, though, has remained high about Dr. Throop and the care I receive from him. The office staff is great and encouraging to me at each visit. I can't think of anything bad to say about Dr. Throop or his staff. I had some post-op difficulties due to an infection caused by accumulation of fluid and improper drainage of it, which was very upsetting to me. However, I found that this type of infection is a fairly common occurrence sometimes very hard to get rid of. Although I don't feel I was prepared for the possibility of this type of infection before surgery, Dr. Throop did a very good job of explaining it to me when it happened to me after surgery and was quick to begin treatment in the early stages of it which resulted in a fairly quick recovery. This infection problem is probably the one thing that has been the most troublesome to me regarding the surgery. Post-op follow-up visits, support group meetings, etc., were stressed all the time during my pre-op period. A definite, firm plan of care was reviewed at every visit so I would know exactly what I should expect and what was expected of me after surgery (except, of course, the infection thing). I would definitely recommend my surgeon and his staff at St. Mary's Bariatric Center to anyone wanting to have this surgery.
I really liked Dr. Throop right away and felt very comfortable. He seems to be about my age so of course I thought he should be older. :) Of course, age did not matter. He is a very good surgeon. His office staff is absolutely fabulous. They are friendly and NEVER treated me like a fat person that doesn't matter like the rest of the world. They place a lot on the aftercare, from being seen in their office by him to attending monthly support group meetings. Yes I feel the aftercare is structured. The risks of surgery are mentioned at almost all pre-op meetings and are explained in detail during questioning with him prior to surgery.
Based on a 1-10 rating I would give him and his staff a 10. I think surgical competence is very important because without that you may not have the chance to see how the bedside manner is. Choose a surgeon well.
Dr. Throop was very informative and thorough. He has an excellant bedside manner. The staff at St. Mary's Bariatric Center are the best. When you call or go in they make you feel as if you are the only patient they have to serve. All of the staff seem knowledgeable and genuinely caring to the patients.
After care is a very important part of the process of surgery. If you are thinking about having the surgery and not following thru with the program you are wasting everybodys time and money.
The risks of the surgery were explained very detailed and completely.
Dr. Throop was a very warm, caring, kind and considerate man, very thorough. I have the utmost respect for the man, even though i had to have emergency surgery 2 times the following day, he made me feel comfortable and made me feel very confident, the emergency surgery was done because of discoloration in my drain tube and some discomfort. after the first surgery he had closed after not finding anything but was not satisfied so he opened me again and then found that my drain tube was twisted under my liver. so when i say very thorough, i mean very thorough. the office staff was very helpful and very nice. there was nothing i did not like about him or his office staff. future patients should know that he is a wonderful Dr. and that any time a needed to talk to him or had a question he was always there. aftercare was very important.and yes there is an aftercare program and it is the GREATEST!! he addressed every question and i mean every question bad and good. I cant rate Dr. Throop because there is not a number high enough. surgical competence and bedside manner were tremendously helpful, and he was there for me at anytime day or night.
When I found out Dr Throop would be doing my surgery it put me a little more at ease. He did my gall bladder surgery the year before, so I had already met him before. He was very upfront with all the risks of the surgery and answered all my questions I had. After my surgery he came to check on me everday until I left the hospital. Would recommend him to others.
I liked Dr. Throop upon our first meeting. He seems to genuinely care about his patients. He had only been doing RNY for 6 months when he did mine. He seemed very well informed and hadn't had any serious problems with any of his patients.
Aftercare is included and encouraged in the St. Mary's Bariatric center. Each visit I go to i see the nutritionist and psychologist. Once a month I go to a group meeting.
He explained the surgery in great detail and addressed the risks of the surgery.
Overall i would rate Dr. Throop an 8. He gave me a chance at a better life. I'm thrilled.
