I've dealt with alot of doctors with my elderly parents. At times it seems I have probably met every type of A-personality, ego maniac out there in the medical field. Dr. Throop made me feel that he knew what he was doing right off the bat. He is full of confidence without the arrogance you find in some doctors. He explained things to me in terms that I could understand and never one time did I feel inferior or self conscience in his presence. He was very friendly and just made me feel good about my decision. I over heard him on the phone one day talking about an intern and I knew right then that Dr. Throop strives for excellence in himself and his staff, but he is a real person... if that makes sense.rnAt first the staff at St. Mary's Bariatric seemed aloof and not very friendly, I really hated going in to the office cause I felt they just didn't care and were they to do a job and didn't really enjoy it. The office staff and how they treat you is very important to me and alot of times even if the doctor is great I'll really think hard about sticking with them if the staff sucks. But the more I saw of them the friendlier they got. Now I know when I call the office they know who I am and I'm not just a file. They all know their stuff.... and really seem to care about you personally and encourage you in your journey. They have an answer for everything and load you up with all the information you could possibly need to make an informed decision and all the information you need to make the changes necessary to be a success. I would highly recommend the staff and the clinic to my family and friends!!

Dr. Throop was a great surgeon and he did all that he could to make me comfortable and informed!!! I would describe his office staff (Evansville Surgical Associates) as VERY BUSY!!! The lady that I dealt with in billing was very rude to me and I had to be rude right back to her for her to listen to me. After that she was the nicest women, funny how pointing out someone's mistakes makes them nicer! The people at St. Mary's Bariatric Center, on the other hand, are the nicest people in the world!!!! Everyone at that office knows you by name and everything that's going on with you personally!! I have never been to a Dr.'s office were the staff was so friendly and I really appreciate that!!! I used to dread going to the Dr. but now I love it because everyone there is so very nice!!! They go out of their way to be nice and to do whatever you ask of them without so much as a sigh!! Aftercare is a big part of WLS for Dr. Throop. I have appt.s at 10 days, 3 weeks, and 1 month scheduled and then I think it's 3 mos. and 6 mos. I also have to go to monthly support group meetings(they are required). Dr. Throop went over the risks of WLS in grave detail with me and my family and answered any questions that we had. I would rate Dr. Throop, on a 1-10 scale, a 9, he wouldv'e gotten a 10 but when I went in for my 10 day visit I told him about a pain that had not previously been there and he didn't even look at it or ask me any questions and it still hurts and I'm 1 month post-op now!! I think that surgical compliance and bedside manner are both great qualities for a surgeon to have!!!

Dr Throop is awesome. He takes the time to explain everything and detail and to answer any questions. He is very particular in his surgery which is exactly what I wanted. Being a nurse...I know things to look for and what to avoid when picking a surgeon. He has Dr Burry assist him and they switch places when the surgery is at the other hospital in town. Both doctors make you feel comfotable and are not judgemental. I have seen patients that have had problems from my old job and the MDs were not very easy to work with, didn't seem to care and didn't want to be bothered. I have found that although the complication rate with Dr Throop is nill he still is very interested in his patients and their outcome. I am so glad I moved back to Evansville and had these 2 surgeons available to me! Dr Throop is top of the list for me! I know they say 100% positive comments are suspect...this is as honest as I can be. I also liked having 2 surgeons doing the surgery.

Dr. Throop is wonderful! He is sweet, kind and attentive. He is young, but I like that. Younger Doctors tend to have better bedside manner, be more open, and willing to work with you. Dr. Throop excelled in each of these areas. I had some problems in the hospital with the nurses and he was ready to take 'em on! The office staff at St. Marys Bariatric Center are great! They remember you by name without even having to look at their book! They even remember details about my life, like how many kids I have and how old they are. The program at SMBC is very structured and rigid. They let you know from the beginning that there are risks. They go over the risks with you on several occasions, and you get a binder (the bible!) that has everything detailed out. I give SMBC 5 Stars, 10 out of 10, and #1 in the Tri-State!

I met with Dr. Throop on June 16th and was very impressed with him overall..he's sort of dry personality wise but seems very knowlegeable and answered all of my questions and made me feel secure in my decision. The staff at St Mary's Bariatric Center are all very nice although at times things get a little confusing. Aftercare is an important "must do" and is emphasized at each and every visit

Dr. Throop has a great personality. He is very experienced and is ready to answer any questions. He explains procedures in a way that anyone could understand them. I had my surgery through St. Mary's Bariatric, and the staff is absolutely wonderful. They are always smiling and more than ready to help in any way they can. The pre and post care at St. Mary's is excellent. Monthly meetings are required post surgery. They also strongly recommend an exercise program, and one is provided by St. Mary's Heart Institute. Appointments with a Dietician and Psychiatrist are mandatory before and after surgery. The program is very structured and is set up so that each patient will experience the best results possible. I am extremely pleased with St. Mary's program and Dr. Throop.

I love Dr. Throop, he is amazing. He is very polite, he understands, and is always there to help. I love the Baratric Center at St.Mary's Hospital they have a great program. He explains the procedure in full and will answer any questions that you have. He came to see me the day of the surgery in the prep area, and was there the next morning to see me, he has a wonder bed side manner and is a great doctor.

St. Mary's Bariatric Center has a well rounded program for their patients. They have a staff of educated and caring nurses, dietician and social worker. They have a very structured program that includes testing , dietary and social counselinig, and an exercise program for both pre and post-op patients. Support group meetings are held each month and are very informative. Each meeting includes a specialized guest speaker. Dr. Throop is a very professional and compasionate person. He always makes you feel at ease. He spends as much time as you need discussing the surgery and answering any questions you may have . I highly reccommend him as a surgeon and St. Marys for an overall structured Bariatric program.

Dr. Throop is an excellent technician, and my primary physician was ecstatic over my choice of surgeon.

My support comes from St. Mary's Bariatric Center, in Evansville. Their help, both pre- and post-op, is invaluable. There are meetings with nutrititionist, psychologist, and even an exercise group is getting underway for bariatric patients. Aftercare is very much structured, with monthly group meetings, etc.

Dr. Throop made me very aware of the possibilities of problems with this procedure, as any good surgeon would.

Surgical competence wins, hands down, but bedside manner is a definite plus.
