Dr McMahon is fantastic. Very informative about the various procedures, anticipated results, possible side-effects or adverse results. He is head of the Swedish Weight Loss Services clinic at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle - not in private practice. He and his entire team are dedicated to assisting people in the weight loss process, and are experts in the field. Office staff is knowledgeable, and he has a tightly-knit team of physicians, surgeons, ARNPs, Dieticians and other professionals who work like a finely made watch. Surgical expertise great - bedside manner prior to surgery great -- the team takes over after surgery. My primary contact is Carole Birche, his ARNP, who does the fills, discusses progress, and makes recommendations. Dietitians are both great, but I do not attend the support groups as I live over three hours away. Only "negative" I would have is that I do not see the doc any more - but I don't really need to, as there are plenty of other experts that are available to me. And i have been told that if I have any problems, at any time, I am to call the hospital and have him paged, and HE will respond. I have heard other patients who have tried this actually confirm that he really calls back -- fast! About a week after my surgery, my blood sugar dropped significantly, and I called -- Dr McMahon was out of town, but his surrogate called me back within ten minutes, and gave me advice which calmed my concerns - and got me off my diabetes meds entirely!

I was very Imprease the first time I visit DR. Ross Mc Mahon office!
I had my surgery November 14, 2011.
While in the hospital him and his staff came to the hospital once to twice a day to check up on me making sure everything was alright.
DR. Ross and his staff has a wonderful bedside matter!
DR. Ross fix my Bypass surgery from my oringinal surgery that was July 12, 05.
This is what DR. Ross did I had my Surgery November 14, 2011.
This is what my Surgeon did to me Short surgery, simply re-did my limb lengths. Her BP and Roux
(alimentary) were way too short, per the way her doc did them all. I was
getting bad GERD.
Some of the segments were so short, he tossed them and rebuilt the whole GI
I believe that DR. Ross and his staff does amazing work!
I trust DR. Ross complitely and you can trust him!

I just attended an information session with Dr. McMahon. At first, I was worried. He quickly went through his PowerPoint presentation and read the slides... Huh? Dude, I can read. Then he stopped and actually turned to us and began the real conversations. That's when I began to change my mind and thought this guy knows his stuff. I was most impressed by his knowledge. I believe that he is dedicated to this type of medical practice. He was honest with us about staff changes in his office and that customer service had not been a strongpoint but they have made significant changes in staff and on track providing stellar customer service. I like that he has support staff (nutritionist, psychologist) in his office and you do not have to be referred to an outside source. I have been to three information sessions with other doctors in the area and he is the one I felt the most comfortable with and left the seminar feeling he was the one. I have an appointment to meet with him and I will make my final decision at that time but I really think I need to look no further.

I first saw Dr. McMahon speak at the introductory seminar for weight loss surgery offered at Swedish Hospital. My first impression of Dr.McMahon was how passionate he is about battling obesity. He is clearly a warrior in the field of weight loss surgery; fighting the good fight with insurance companies and other agencies as an advocate for his patients. rnrnThe seminar was very informative and the Dr. explained in detail each proceedure and left plenty of time to answer questions from the audience. rnrnDr. McMahon has a nice bedside manner but is somewhat reserved. In my opinion, the most important quality he demonstrates is his knowledge in the WL field and his experience. I also appreciate that he takes the time and additional steps when doing the surgery to prevent complications down the road, i.e. extra stitches, (above and beyond the norm), when placing the band and port. Additionally, he requires a mandatory one night stay in the hospital for Lapband patients while many practices do this surgery as an outpatient surgery. I would not have wanted to go home a couple of hours after surgery!rnrnEveryone in the practice is very friendly and knowledgeable. The P.A. and the Nutritionist are the main point of contact for aftercare. Dr. McMahon does not do \"fills\" so there is no reason to see him after Lapband surgery unless there is a specific reason. rnrnMy only complaint was early on when trying to get all of the paperwork and tests sent to the office. A couple of times faxes were lost and had to be re-sent and I felt that I needed to double check to make sure everything was noted received, etc. It's a very busy practice and in my opinion they were slightly understaffed.rnrnOver-all the quality of care and my entire experience has been very positive. I have recommended Dr. McMahon and his team to friends and aquaintences considering weight loss surgery.rnrnLisa O'Learyrnrn

I liked Dr. McMahon alot. his initial briefing was well presented with compelling facts . His staff has been great .. I have to be pro active they do not reach out much after surgery.. but when called very responsive ... very pleased with the surgery and would recommend Dr McMahon and his staff to anyone

I first met him at a meeting he gave about wls. My first impression of him was he knew what he was talking about. I think he is a good surgeon but they did not tell me to follow a special diet before surgery therefore I had an enlarged liver and he had to put a large band on(14cc).I have not seen him after my surgery (5 months ago). I will not see him until it has been a year. I don't like that. I think they need better after surgery care. Someone (maybe a nurse) should give you a call after surgery to see how you are doing and see if you have any questions. I have learned a lot from obesityhelp.com That they never told me. I think it is best to have a doctor with good bed side manners and a good surgeon.

-My first impression of Dr. McMahon was WOW I really think he cares for my as a person not just a dollar sign. He also knows his stuff and is willing to fight to help you get your type of surgery and the results you want.rn-His office staff is new and that can be a good thing but in my case..They need to get there office prodecures down and the information (handouts) given to patients updated and with right phone numbers and what they REALLY want a patient to get done before each visit. And not ...oh by the way we forgot to tell you you need another physical (by your PCP) before we will do your surgery.rn-I haven't found anything that I dislike about him..but if you are going to do this surgery and except them to baby you .. you are not ready for the surgery to be done. rn-Aftercare seems to be VERY important to them.rn-Yes the have said they have a structured aftercare program because if you don't then you will go bad to your \"OLD HABITS\"rn-He is very carefull and makes you aware of ALL the risks of surgeryrn-On a scale of 1 to 10 and 10 being the best I would rate him 10+.rn-Well I think surgical skill is better then bedside manner..I have been around the medical field my father was a Physical Therapist for hospitals and nursing home and I do understand that most surgeons can have great bedside manner but they can have very bad surical skills.. I have been obese most my adult life and I have been looked at like I was an animal in a zoo call names just because of the way I look.. I don't think bedside manner is as important as the end result LOSING the weight.

Dr. McMahon was very informative at the intial info conference. He presented statistics about weight loss in obese patients and how that had changed over the decades. He also gave stats about how different types of surgery or weight loss programs effectiveness.

Every meeting with him and/or his staff has been not only extremely professional but there is genuine caring for the patients and their particular issues. Dr. McMahon has a sense of humor and isn't afaid to let it show and that makes him more approachable.

The after care follow up with the staff has been good and they have been very responsive to any questions that I have had. They offer support group meetings monthly although I have not been able to attend one yet.

I was especially touched by Dr. McMahon's bedside manner after my surgery while I was still in recovery. I wish every surgeon was so kind.
