I haven't met him yet, I have an appointment on July 25,2001. I wondered if you could give me any information on him?

I have not met Dr provost yet, but I have my
consultation date set for March 2nd, 2001.
Hopefully they will be able to get me in
before that. I am very happy and nervous.
Like I said I haven't met my doctor but the
Staff was so nice. I spoke to Marilyn primarily.
She told me what to do and answered what questions
I had. I chose Dr. Provost from this site mainly.
I checked around and it turned out I have
a friend who knows someone who had surgery
w/Dr. Povost. Her experience was pleasant.
She had problems with the staple but she said "if
she had to do it all over again, she would not change a thing."
Thanks for eveybody's support. It really helps to have someone
out there that knows what you are goin' through
& lets you know you are not alone.
Thank you,
Missy Williams

I just had my consultation with Dr. Provost.
He is so nice and I like him alot. He told me
that I was an excellent canidate for
Laproscopic surgery and he is very straight
forward. Lets you know the percentage rate of
the risks and problems. I would recommend him
if you can stand the waiting list.:)

I have gotten my approval w/Aetna Hmo. I spoke
with Michelle and she got me all taken care of
It only took 2 weeks to get approved. I am so
excited I can hardly contain myself. The hardest
thing was getting my medical records, and even
that wasn't that hard. I did most of the work
I just had David from Dr. Provosts office send
the first letter. I did the rest. As for
Dr. Provost himself, he does have an aftercare
program and stresses the importance of it.
He seems very competant and i have had nothing
but good experiences with him and his office staff.
I am very confident that i'm in good hands w/Dr. P.

His name is Dr. David Provost. He is in Dallas TX and is wonderful! He's very good at explaining everything that could possibly happen during the surgery. His office people are kind, caring and non-judgemental. This is not the only surgery he does. Future patients should know that Dr. Provost CARES about his patients. He has emphasized an after care program, however at this time I do not know how structured it is. At this point I have only seen him once. I have one more appointment with him before my surgery. From talking to prior patients, he is and excellent surgeon who really cares.
One of my friend's husband weighed 750 lbs. He is down to 350 and his entire stomach was removed. He is doing great.

My first impression of Dr. Provost was that he looked very young. After seeing him a few times, I realised that he was very interested in helping me and he would go to any lengths to do so. I weighed 700 pounds before the surgery, and he was very concerned for my health and well being. His staff was very helpful too. I had never seen such a compassionate group in my life. I can't really say that there was anything about Dr. Provost that I didn't like. I got mad at him several times while I was still in the hospital after my surgery, but now that I look back on it, he was only doing what was best for me. If I had to rate him on a scale of 1 to 10...I would give him a 12. There was an after care program lined up for me, but I lived too far away to go to this all the time. Now I wish I had taken more advantage of it. He explained the risks of surgery very well. I was extremely scared, but I also knew that if I didn't have this done, I was going to die. Being 24 years old at the time and weighing near 700 pounds was a definite health risk. His surgical competence, and bedside manner were both AWSOME. If I had to do it all over again, I would do it in a heartbeat...and I would definitely want Dr. Provost as my surgeon.

2/1/01 1st visit. I really like the office staff and Dr. Provost. He answered all my questions and gave me a lot of information. But most of all, he didn't make me feel guilty for getting to this weight.

The meeting with Dr. Provost went well. He answered all my questions and concerns. He also brought somethings up that I didn't address to make sure they were covered. Since I have a hard time getting a hold of them on the phone, I e-mail all my questions to them and get a response the next day.

1/23/01 Well, I have made the call for an appointment with Dr. Provost. The only problem is he is so booked up that I can't even see him for a consult until August! I am very frustrated. Now that I have researched and checked everything out I have to sit and cool my heels for 7 months.

When you first meet Dr. Provost, he blinks a lot when he is talking and doesn't make a lot of eye contact. But he is an excellent doctor and knows his stuff.

My first impression was that he was distant and not really seeing me as a person. My impression has changed.

His office staff is nice, but that whole operation is a bit disorganized. They are all sweet as can be and very accomodating, but no one seems to know what anyone else is doing a lot of the time. Lois Hill is his primary nurse asst. and she handled my insurance. She was back and forth with me on the email answering my many pestering questions. She is so sweet and helpful.

I have never seen any doctor visit his patient in the hospital 3 times a day. He did faithfully.

He knows what he is doing. He can be trusted with your life.

He says the key to long term success is your aftercare and continuing to stay in touch with him, his staff, and the group support program he has set up.

He clearly states the risks. He doesn't sugar coat or try to convince you. He tells you how it is.

I would also like to let others know that I object to blood transfusions for religious reasons. Dr. Provost honored that. He did explain that his threshhold for going back in would be much lower if my blood count dropped significantly. He also decided not to use Heparin to thin my blood to prevent blood clots because it could cause more bleeding. For those thinking of having this operation without blood, I have done extremely well. I've had no vomiting, nausea, problems urinating or with bowel movements. I was walking on the hour around my hospital floor. After the surgery, Dr. Provost told me that my blood count didn't drop hardly at all. Maybe that is why I am doing so well. I hope so.

HOSPITAL: Zale Lipshy Hospital - part of UTSouthwestern Medical Center - This is the absolute best hospital I have ever seen or been in. They have accomodations for a family member to stay with you all of the time. They brought food to my mother and husband every time there was a meal time. The nurses were amazing. Frankly I didn't want to leave. All rooms are private and comfortable.
