Sage Bariatric Institute Bariatric Center
He is super! He is very understanding and compassionate. He was very helpful in answering all of my questions and addressing my concerns. His staff is like a fine tuned machine. They work wonderfully together and are very nice.
He was very real about the risks involved. I chose Dr Pilcher because the reports that I have hear were that he has the best bedside manner and is the best. His associates are also highly regarded in surgical competence, but from what I heard none compare to him and he surpasses them all when it comes to bedside manner.
Dr. Pilcher was the most honest and up front doctor I have ever dealt with, but also a man of compassion. It is has not changed.
His staff is very good and keep you informed on what your status is and what you need to know.
Dr. Pilcher is GREAT! I feel he is a very caring and very honest person. I truely feel he understands the being obesity is not a choice that we make but rather a medical condition that needs radical treatment. He and the other doctors were very up front about the risk of this surgrey and they have a wonderful seminar. The handouts about the before and after care of this surgery are very informative.
I WAS IN GA. AND WE HAD PHONE CONSULTS TO BEGIN WITH. HE DID HIS BACKGROUND AND I DID MINE. I WAS ABLE TO DO EVERYTHING AT THE AIRFORCE BASE WE WERE STAGTIONED AT BEFORE GOING TO TEXAS.I GOT THERE MET HIM AND HIS STAFF AND FELT VERY SECURE. TRICARE GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND WITH WLS AND REFUSED TO DO ANY RECO AS WELL.THANK GODFOR MILITARY SURGEONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had already gotten a lot of info on Dr Pilcher prior to meeting him aat my first appointment. I was not disappointed. Dr Pilcher is a very professional physician and very thorough. I have every confidence in him and am anxiously awaiting my surgery on June 28. I was able to ask and receive thorough information to my questions. I was prepared and brought all medical records that might help in the approval process since I was on a time constraint since my insurance is changing July 1. The office staff has been great, I have dealt mostly with Laura on insurance matters.
It's been 2 years as of today since my surgery. I have had no complications and Dr Pilcher is absolutely a God-send! He has been so helpful and thorough, and so caring! I have referred so many to their practice and tell them that there isn't anyone any better in the state of Texas that can do the surgery! I look forward to seeing Dr John Pilcher's wife Dr Sheryl Pilcher to do my plastic surgery!
5/01/02: Dr. Pilcher is wonderful. I had my surgery on 4/16 and had a follow-up with him today. He is very through and a very personable person. I feel very fortunate to have him as my surgeon.
2/18/02:I have had my first consultation with Dr. Pilcher and he is wonderful! Very considerate and thorough in explaining this procedure and answering all the questions that I, and my husband, had. All the staff were great! On your first consultation, you will see a dietitian, behavioral RN, a film and then see Dr. Pilcher. He quickly wrote and sent off my preauthorization letter to my insuance. Now, I am anxiously waiting for an answer from Humana. There was nothing we (me and hubby) did not like about him, he made us feel very comfortable. One thing I would suggest is that you have your physician call in and refer you to his office. I had an appointment 07/2003 and then I went to my OB/GYN and he called and I had an appointment within 2 months (2/02). MUCH FASTER!!! He is very knowledgable. I truly have nothing negative to say from my first visit. The practice also has a support group which we attended and found very imformative. The only thing that scared me is when patients started showing off their scars... quite a surprise!
My first impression of Dr. Pilcher was that he was a very understanding caring and small individual. His office staff is very helpful and they all have your goals in mind. Dr. Pilcher has very strong veiws on after care which is very important to me with a surgery such as this. He was very blunt and direct when addressing the possible risks involved with the surgery. Overall I feel very confident and safe with Dr. Pilcher.
I was very impressed with Dr Pilcher. He appears honest and highly skilled. He answered my questions openly and honestly. He made sure that we did not have any further questions before proceeding with the next topic. The office staff did leave something to be desired, they appeared rather rude when called, or even when they called me! The office staff are not doing the surgery, so I am not that worried about them. I am sure they will come to adore me! Dr. Pilcher stresses that the Gastric Bypass is only a tool and you will have to learn to use this tool, with diet and exercise to achieve your goal.
My first impression was that Dr. Pilcher was a very slight man. I am seeing him again on 12/3/01 for my preop visit. His staff has been ok. I felt the girl that scheduled the surgery could have been a little more helpful. The thing I liked least about him was the exam. I didn't think there was much to it, but I guess I don't really know what I expected. He strongly emphasizes aftercare and even participates in a monthly group meeting. He is available to answer questions etc. which for a surgeon is very unusual. He did address the risks of surgery and even indicated that he had had a person expire that was very similar to me. He felt my comorbidities could be managed in the post op phase w/o too much difficulty. I would rate him 9 out of 10 - hey nobody's perfect.
I offically met my soon to be surgeon October 3, 2001 but I had already met him a few months back at the one the support meetings that he holds once a month called Staple Mates.
My first impression of him was that he is a very kind, mild mannered individual. My impression of him since meeting him in May have not changed a bit. I have very much high respect for him.
His office staff is something different, since the first day I called I was treated very unprofessional and handled very rudely by his staff. It's a shame but it was not for his reputation I would have not made an appointment with him, based on his staff's behavior.
When I finally met his office staff in person, I realized these ladies don't have a clue what we obese people have to endure in life and they really need to be more compassionate with us. I also realized that with a little more kindness from our part (even though we shouldn't) will bring out their softer side, which they do have one.
