Phillip Leggett, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center
I decided to post after surgery about my surgeon. Surgery went well, and I am recovering well, I am 5 days out. The office staff, especially Lindsay, is wonderful. What I can't figure out is why he said some nasty things about me to my mom! He said I was rude and etc. all related to my being bipolar. Well, yes I am bipolar and yes it is taken care of, or I would never have had surgery. I am still stable post op, and see him again on Thursday. I believe he is a great surgeon, but if you have psych issues, be prepared.
Excellent first impression - professional, but personable.rnGets to the point, but doesn't make you feel rushed. Answered all my questions. Exuded confidence, but didn't come across as a huckster. Doesn't appear to be in it for the money. He charged $5000 and Houston Northwest Medical Center charged $5500 for the surgery and one night stay.rnrnHis after VSG surgery care is weak because he doesn't do very many of them, but his bariatric coordinator is stepping up to the plate with better info.rnrnOverall I would rate him with excellent surgical competence and good bedside manner.
Dr. Leggett preformed my laprascopic RNY on Dec 23, 2008. I loved him the very first time I met him and adore him even more now. Most of his staff are kind and extremely accomodating except for 1 nurse. He emphasizes aftercare to an extreme and does have a structured aftercare program. The risks of surgery were addressed in the seminar and again in the office visit. Both his surgical competence and bedside manner are excellent.
Due to complications I had to have a revision. For this I used Dr. Fuller in Little Rock, AR. Originally, he was very intimidating, but I have grown understand his dry nature. His aftercare program is less structured than Dr. Legget's. Dr. Fuller is blunt and straight forward. He seems cold at 1st, but after you get to know him, it's evident that he cares. Surgical competence is much better than his bedside manner.
My first impression of Dr. Leggett was that herntook every case personal because he has every patient to do homework on the surgery to make sure you know the upside and the down side of the Surgery. The staff was great and they still follow me even though I am two years out. I would tell future patients to just follow the instructions that he gives you. he will definately push you in caring and stress for you to follow the rules. I would rate him atrna ten for caring for his patients. He is great in a surgical and bedside manner.
I love him! I had already heard such good things about him from a friend who had surgery with him also. I initially went in for problems with reflux, and was introduced to wls options. I should mention that the options were offered after I had been through much testing on my reflux, which I found important. I would not have liked to have been introduced to wls without the testing to really see were I was. Dr. Leggett has great associates working there with him, but he still makes sure to come in to talk. I really like that. I highly recommend him. Oh I also want to mention that I think he really saved me, as he found a huge cystictumor THING growing on one of my ovaries while starting the laprascopic surgery. Thankfully it was safely removed, and was not cancerous. I am just so grateful to him, and his WONDERFUL staff!!
Dr. Leggett and staff are the best around. He was the third doctor that I saw, and the weird thing was that I went to high school with his children. He was great right off the bat. He is very serious, and wants you to know that this procedure is very serious, and life changing. I would recommend him to anyone looking to have this surgery. His staff is A++. There is nothing that I did not like about him.
Dr. Leggett is short and to the point. But he is in such high demand you have to deal with it. He is a top notch surgeon.
I had met Dr. Leggett prior to MY first appointment with him. I was with my sister-in-law(also a patient of Dr. Leggett's) who was there for a post-op follow up appt. My first impression was that he was a very caring surgeon who listens to what his patients are saying. He also seems very thorough in making sure his patients are healing well and becoming healthier individuals. Dr. Leggett's office staff are well educated and fairly well organized. They are also able to explain how the pre-op appointments and procedures work and help you understand what you need to do before having the surgery. The only thing I disliked about the situation was that the surgeon himself only saw me for about twenty seconds and his staff saw me the rest of the time. What future patients should know is that the whole first visit process moves very quickly and I would recommend having researched what goes on before the surgery so as not to feel overwhelmed. Dr. Leggett really pushes for follow ups and blood work to make sure everything is okay and also recommends continued attendence to the Support Group. I dealt more with his associates during the process of my surgery than I did him, but all of his staff was great even though I have a few that I like much more than others. I had and continue to have great success with them so far in my journey.
