Penn Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program Bariatric Center
My initial impression of Dr. Williams was that he was well spoken, patient and that I had his undivided attention. The office staff were pleasant and organized. The pre and post-op support was presented to me multiple times and I fetl that I would not have a problem communicating with any of the staff. The nutritionist and nurse practicioner made sure I knew that I could call/e-mail them with any questions or concerns. Hopefully when that time comes I can report a timely response. rnrn<!-- Start of SimpleHitCounter Code -->rn<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"http://www.simplehitcounter.com\" target=\"_blank\"><img src=\"http://simplehitcounter.com/hit.asp?uid=67698&f=16777215&b=0\" border=\"0\" height=\"18\" width=\"83\" alt=\"free hit counters\"></a><br><a href=\"http://www.simplehitcounter.com\" target=\"_blank\"><font size=\"-3\">free hit counters</font></a></div>rn<!-- End of SimpleHitCounter Code -->rnrn
My first contact with The University of Penn was in August 2004 and my appointment was scheduled for November. Needless to say it was a long three months. I had a zillion questions for Dr. Williams and not knowing what to expect, made me anxious and nervous. Meeting Dr. Williams was a pleasure. He was very kind and attentive to my needs. He answered every question I had regarding the procedure (no matter how crazy it was). He advised me of all the risks associated with WLS; he even went as far as sketching diagrams. Dr. Williams is very professional along with his office staff, and the before care and after care they provided to me was excellent.
I haven't met with Dr. Williams yet but from what I've researched, I'm thinking I'll like him. My previous experience with Univ. of Penn was a wonderful experience. During my pregnancy I was under the care of Dr. Robert Debbs and he and his staff were absolutely wonderful. So I'm hoping for a similar experience with Dr. Williams and his staff.rnrnrnrnrnrnrnrn<!-- Start of SimpleHitCounter Code -->rn<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"http://www.simplehitcounter.com\" target=\"_blank\"><img src=\"http://simplehitcounter.com/hit.asp?uid=82022&f=0&b=16711935\" border=\"0\" height=\"18\" width=\"83\" alt=\"free hit counters\"></a><br><a href=\"http://www.simplehitcounter.com\" target=\"_blank\"><font size=\"-3\">free hit counters</font></a></div>rn<!-- End of SimpleHitCounter Code -->rn
So far everything was good. I liked Dr Wernsing. He answered all of my questions. However it seems like I waited forever to see him, the day I went I think it was about 6 off us who had a scheduled consultation with him. He was pretty detailed and since this is my second time going through this process-it wasn't bad. He was calm and seemed laid back. He was very imformative and seems like a great DR.
Dr. Williams is an excellent surgeon. ALthough I didn't see him much through my journey I appreciate him in every sense of the word. rnIf you are in the Philadelphia area and are looking for a good surgeon he is the man!rnHe did my surgery laproscopic at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital and I had no complications or problems whatsoever. rn
The moment I met Dr. Kirkland, I knew I met the right doctor - felt instantly at ease and in the best hands possible, I stopped my search for the best doctor and made up my mind after having heard him speak. His office staff was wonderful; take my calls and answer my questions/concerns whenever I call and are very attentive. You don't get to see Dr. Kirkland much during your actual hospital stay, but that's because he's very busy on his surgery days - but you won't mind, you'll want his expertise over his bedside manner!
I trust Dr. Williams. He was very considerate and straight forward with me. He explained the procedure and answered all my questions. I know two people who also had him perform their surgery and they both praise him.
Dr. Korus is a good guy, I like him. He's always polite, always greets me very personably, and even laughs when I'm firing off silly questions at him like it's an interrogation. He understands that if there's something I want to know, I'll ask no matter how idiotic it might seem to other physicians. He's not a snob at all just because he's a doctor, like some other physicians I've encountered. He understands by now that I lay it all on the table and he gives me straight answers. So far, I've mostly described his personality, but in my dealings with him to date, I don't feel that I can question his medical abilities. He's not given me any reason to doubt him pre-operatively, I sincerely doubt that it will be any different post-operatively. rnrnHe puts things in perspective as far as the risks vs the benefits of WLS. He explains the procedures and his experiences in the past. He's understanding and doesn't berate you because of your body, he understands what is ticking underneath of that and the person that is sitting in front of him is not \"Morbidly Obese\" - they are Mr/Mrs/Ms. So-and-so. rnrnHis staff is great, Debbie understands the frustration of dealing with insurance companies during the approval process. She's also great in getting me answers and working around any scheduling issues that may arise.rnrnSo far, so good. The worst part is having to travel to Philadelphia and because he does surgeries on certain days, his office hours are limited. To be honest, I was a bit leery when I read other reviews regarding his bedside manner, but maybe because I'm a bit thick skinned (pardon the pun! LOL), I went in prepared to come across a grumbly, crinkle browed doctor, thinking I can take this guy if he gets a big gruff. But, so far, I'm pleasantly surprised. But, to be fair, this is only my opinion and others have theirs. My advice is if this doctor seems to suit your needs, then by all means, check him out. If not, no harm done and find one that does. Good luck! rnrnUPDATE---rnrnDr Korus is really cool. I had my last appointment with him a week or so ago and he's really personable. He just laughs at me when I ask the DUMBEST questions; probably because I preface it with, \"Ok this will be really stupid but, what happens when...\" and he's cool about it. rnrnHe explained everything thoroughly and went over every little detail that he could lay out for me. Most of the time, before I could ask him something, he'd answer it. He's very competent and considerate. That's why I stayed with him instead of any local doctor. I figured when I first went that I'd check him out and if I didn't like him, I'd find someone else. I liked him immediately. I really recommend him if anyone is considering having a consult with him. rnrnPS - Dr. Korus, this glowing review means I get to ask you LOADS more stupid questions! I'm building credit...LOLrnrnPost-op update on Dr Korus:rnrnYep, it's all true - what a good guy! I have no complaints whatsoever. He was really good to me when I was so scared before the surgery and just as good afterward. He is so personable and caring. He reassured me as I came out of anesthesia that all went well. I had a hard time with some pain afterward, but he didn't leave me in the hands of staff, he took care of me himself and wouldn't leave until I was fine. He checked on me repeatedly throughout my stay, much more than I would expect for an average post-op round. He's always checking to see if I have any questions. He's been very encouraging. rnrnAnd, I have to throw in a big thanks to my hottie nurse Kert! Thanks for everything kitten! You were great =o)
