Penn Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program Bariatric Center
Dr. Williams of the University of Penn, Philadelphia, PA.
Wonderful!! Although it took a long time to get the initial appointment with him, he was able to schedule my surgery date pretty quickly. He seems very knowledgable about the surgery and was able to answer the questions I had. My friend from our support group had him as his surgeon for WLS and really liked him as well, and is doing great!
Thank you Dr. Williams for my new lease on life coming soon!
My first impression of Alan was that of an old classmate. He seemed so easy to talk to and he was very informative. He had a nutritionist and a dietician in the room with us at the time of our consultation. He explained everything about the surgery, food, problems post-op, and answered all our questions. Then he saw each of us one a one-on-one basis for a private consultation. I have nothing but good things to say about him. He was very upfront about his experience and his expectations. I couldn't have asked for better.
I was very lucky to get an appointment with Dr. Williams after a relatively short wait (3 weeks). He was very congenial & informative, as was his entire staff.
Today I had my first meeting with Dr. Schuricht. I had this idea of him in my mind prior meeting him. Boy, was I wrong..smile. He was very informative about the procedure and other procedures. He noted possible complication of the procedure or any operation in general. I also met with his deitician. He was very informative also. I must admit everyone was very pleasant and down to earth. I was pleasing surprised. I could not have made a better choice. For first meets on a scale of 1-10. I would say a 10. But, let's see how great a surgeon he his..smile. I'm sure it will be excellent. Oh I forgot Chrissy! She was great!
Very informative, but you must go to the support groups to get any info/ or you will be in the dark. His staff is professional & courteous and handled all the paperwork from insurance to disability papers without a glitch. The only thhing missing from Dr. Kirkland was lack of info for post-op wound care and expectatiins...asgain...I went to 2 deminars...and had I not...I would have known no more than the MD's name.
I went by the MD's surgical reputation and the Hospitals reputation....I would not consider having surgery from anyone less than excellent....so bedside manner is never an issue with me...He is very nice, but I only saw him for 5 seconds my 2nd day in ICU...The rest of my stay and prior to surgery was dealt with by interns and residents.
I chose to have the epideral, and gratefully I had a wonderful anastealogist who actuall stroked my hair as he was working on the procedure...How kind and calming....I felt like a 3 year old in Daddys safe hands...He was wonderful
I was really impressed with him - I feel very
confident having him perform my surgery-he also operated on my next door neighbor who came thru the operation with flying colors.
The staff was very friendly - but the only
downfall was he is such a popular doctor it takes months to get your initial consult with him - then when you get an appointment you have to wait 1 to 2 hours in the office before you see him - well all in all I feel
it was worth the wait -Univ of Penn has a wonderful program for after surgery-a nutritionist has a monthly support group which I've been attending for 4 months now - I learn alot there from all the post surgery
people - they are a wealth of knowledge. The
doctor explains in detail all the risks of surgery and the meetings you also hear from
the people who have been operated on by him
and any problems they might have experienced.
Everyone is very pleased with the operation
and are now dealing with different things
they can now eat with no problem - but all are ok from the surgery part of it. I am looking forward to next months meeting
Dr. Kirkland made me feel like he wasn't rushing through his appointment with me. I felt he was very, very knowledgeable. He drew me diagrams, informed me what amount of weight he thought I could lose. I thought that his office should have had more seating as every seat was taken. He does have a structured aftercare problem. He addressed the risks of surgery thoroughly. To date, I can only speak on his competence thus far. Hopefully, his bedside manner will be equally as good.
My daughter had her surgery on 10/26/01. she went to see Dr. Williams when she couldn't get approval for Dr. Andrei, because he is out of network. She loved him. She felt he was very personable. I had my visit with him 3 days before her surgery. I thought the same thing. I didn't have to wait long, and everyone was pleasant.
He has a support group that meets every month. I hve not gone yet, but plan to take advantage of it.
1/7/02 I am 4 days post-op. I am still having a good amount of pain. I am moving a little easier every day. Can't be without pain medicine for longer than 5 hours. I am taking 2 percocet each time. So far I have not vomitted. Last night was my first night home and I could not lie flat in bed. Reflux. I slept on my reclining sofa. I was pretty comfortable considering. I went to bed at 7am and slept until noon. I felt better then. I am taking each day one at a time.
They only negative thing I can say about my care is that I only saw Dr. Williams on the day I was discharged. I consider myself lucky. Most don't see the operating surgeon until there post-op visit. The one nurse I had, Stacey treated me well. I have no complaints about my hospital stay.
I have a consultation appointment with Dr.Kirkland on May 15, 2001. I have read many positive posts from his patients, I can't wait.
Well I met Dr.Kirkland and for some reason, I was expecting someone alot older. He was very honest, and confident. That made me feel alot better. I am comfortable that he will be my surgeon.
