NYU Langone Weight Management Program Bariatric Center
Dr. Ren is personable but business like. She explained the proceedure (lap band) and everything that would take place during surgery. She answered my questions and was very open about complications and problems I might have. I need to see her every month for the first year. She explained my firs fill would be about 6 weeks post op.Her staff was very helpful (they had just moved into new digs). I was examined by an intern, then met with Dr. Ren. I made an appointment to meet with Barrie, her nutritionist after my consult. She was nice very knowledgable and answered alll my questions. I meet with Dr. Huberman in September. Gio was on vacation, so I didn't get to meet him (sigh)! I guess I'll have to wait until I am post op.
I had lap band Surgery 1/11/2002.
Dr. Ren Was Great. She was honest, caring and I have lost 75+ Pounds in the first 8 months.
I have had two fills since then, and each time the experience has been good.
I have nothing but good things to say about Dr Ren and NYU.
The most important thing I can say after 8 months is, I would do it again if I had the chance.
I am very lucky to live so close to Dr. Ren.
At first, I thought she was a little cold. (all business) But then I thought about it and this stuff is serious business.
I found her much warmer after my surgery.
Her office staff is the best. I have more confidence in Gio,her NP,than I have in most of my doctors. Barrie, her nutricinist, is great, too.
Aftercare is VERY important.
Yes, 3 week visit and then every 3 months for a year and then once or twice annually.
She scares you a little discussing the risks of surgery.
I am very pleased with my decision to go with Dr. Ren.
Both.
My first impression of Dr. Ren is very positive. She is very young but extremely knowledgeable in her field. She is kind, yet, frank and honest about what to expect and about the side effects for each surgery.
Dr. Ren completed a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center under the auspices of Dr. Michel Gagner and Dr. Barry Salky, where she was involved as faculty in the Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery Workshops to train surgeons in laparoscopic bariatric surgery. Dr. Ren was also involved in refining the technical details leading to the first laparoscopic BPD/DS with Dr. Gagner in 1999.
i have already consulted with a Dr. Wise @ NY Methodist Hospital. Needless to say he seemed bored, he's very experienced but i felt more like a number than a patient.
Whoever said good things come to those who wait was definitley right.. Dr. Ren office was excellent, very busy though i guess i went on a bad day but it was worth it! On the same day she was able to give me a tentative date for surgery only 6 weeks away.
My first impression of Dr. Ren was that she was very informative, very patient, very pretty and very very friendly. I find I could talk to her like I was talking to an old friend. She told me her creditial, how many patient she operated on, who trained her and straight to the point about the pro and the cons of this surgery. I so glad I found her and I feel great about having her as my surgeon. Her staff is TERRIFIC, Gio is a real Gem, he so funny and patient and always get back to me, Lisa is TERRIFIC, she always have time for you and always greet you with a smile... GOD BLESS THEM ALL. The after care is wonderful and Dr. Ren has a website so any question you may have, she there for you.
I would personally rate her as an excellent surgeon, I have not had any problem since my operation.
I thought she appeared very young. She was very warm, funny and made me feel at ease immediatley. I spoke with her Nurse Practioner first, Giovanni and he was really nice. Her office coordinator Lisa was the best as well I stalked her religiously for 2 1/2 weeks looking for cancellations to get my appointment bumped up to May 1st. Back to Dr. Ren. She was great. She did not rush me, and answered every question I answered. Love her. She really got me when she said toward the end of our consultation essentially "You are going to be married to me. You will be partnered with me for the rest of your life." She really saw the big picture. I responded, jokingly of course, so if we divorce do I get half? She thought that was pretty funny. Doing a happy dance! Praise God!!!
I am now nearly 6 months post-op from having a laproscopic BPD/DS, and from the beginning of the process some 9 months ago until now, I have only had the most positive experience with Dr. Ren. I've found her to be dedicated, intelligent, kind, caring, extremely competent and with an excellent bedside manner. Her NP, Gio, is just as fabulous as well.
On my first meeting, she explained all my surgical options, the pluses and minuses of each, as well as all the risks involved. At no point did she push one surgery over the other, especially once she determined that I was well-researched and knowledgeable about what was available and what I wanted. And at no point did she try and change my mind either.
I would highly recommend her to anyone considering surgery, especially if wanting it done laproscopically, as that is her specialty.
