Northside Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
Dr.Macik is a good and kind surgeon and very
professional. He and his partner Dr. Waits have been doing this kind of surgery for several years and are very respected in the Atlanta area.
His office staff is very professional. Not the warmest, but very professional.
Dr. Macik has a warm bedside manner. The day after the surgery when he came to the hospital to check on me, he was in jeans and very down to earth. I believe he really cares about his patients.
Dr. Macik wants to see his patients four weeks after surgery and then six weeks, then three months and 6 months after surgery. I am due to go back to him for my six months check up in a couple of weeks.
I would rate him on a scale of 1-10, a 10.
I believe that surgical competence, bedside manner are both very important, as there are many emotions when you go through this type surgery.
Pleasant, not too chatty, answered questions when asked but didn't volunteer a lot of info; office staff pleasant enough but sometimes short with people; was not part of a structured aftercare program and don't know if one was offered; they are actively involved in a hospital-based support group and info session program
Dr. Macik is a good surgeon. Originally, I didn't find him as personable, but when I saw him at my pre-op visit and in the hospital, he seemed to have warmed up.
His office staff is very knowledgeable and they are definitely on top of things. They are very helpful and are always available to assist.
I would definitely give him a 10 of 10 and recommend him as a surgeon.
It is funny because when I called Dr Maciks office for the first time I found the phone manners lacking, however I soon found out that it was that way because they are sooo busy! Dr Macik and his office staff are wonderful. They emphasize aftercare a great deal and I am a very bad example because I moved even further away (7-8 hours) and cant go see him like I should but I do intend on getting labs done by my primary and if anything is wrong, I will make that trek! Wonderful Surgeon and Office Staff
Dr. Macik and his staff have always displayed a caring attitude. They have always answered any questions I've had. They are easy to talk to and very helpful. Dr. Macik seems to enjoy being a part of helping someone improve their life and quality of life. He and his staff want you to succeed at weight loss.
They are very strict about your first month's diet post surgery. No more than 3ozs. and all liquid. Between the 4th and 8th weeks all types of foods are slowly added back to your diet. They emphasize walking, get moving as soon as you can after surgery.
Dr. Macik is very open about the risk of the surgery. They make sure you understand if you don't do your part the surgery will fail.
Overall I would rate him and his staff a 10.
First Impression: (This is how I see it now, I will as I continue my journey.)
To keep a long story short, let's just say that I have done mega-research, been to several seminars and was really on the fence as to whether I should have the surgery or not. Before meeting Dr. Macik, my head was filled with haunting "what-if" questions. After meeting Dr. Macik, I felt relieved and I finally felt confident in my decision to have the surgery. It is like I was finally excited about the whole thing. Don't get me wrong it is not like he sugar coated anything -- he didn't, I just felt respect for him and his skill. He set my mind at ease and answered all of the questions that my husband and I had. I have been told that you will know when you find the right doctor for you -- you will feel it, and I did.
His staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were the last people in the office and they did not rush us in the least bit. We had no idea we were holding them up until we saw them heading to the elevator after we left.
More to come . . .
He was very understanding and very patient with me. He answered all my questions and concerns. My impression of him has not changed. I love his staff. Any time I have a question I can all them and they are happy to help and get back with you immediately.
The least thing I like about Dr. Macik is that he's in Atlanta, Georgia and not Columbus, Georgia. I hate the drive. It's only an hour and a half drive, but I wish he was here. I had to go back and fourth for my tests and doctor visits.
Patients should know that he is very up front with you. He is not going to candy coat anything. You have to be prepared to hear the truth and not just expect to hear what you want to hear.
His office gives you detailed information of what you can and can't do after the surgery. They also encourage you to get into a support group. Dr. Macik informed me about the risks of having the surgery and also informed me of the risks of not having the surgery. On a scale of one to ten I would give him a ten.
Both are important when it comes to the surgery.
Dr. Macik is a fairly soft-spoken doctor, but worth every penny. He is very knowledgeable and experienced with the surgery and I felt extremely comfortable with him and his staff. Even though he's shy his bedside manner is certainly not a negative, though we did have a complication with my pain medicine (they wouldn't give me any) when I was 5-6 hours post-op and there was confusion over whether it was the doctor or hospital's call, we got it all cleared up though. I would, however recommend him to anyone looking for a great doctor and staff in the Atlanta area.
