This Doctor is Awesome

Dr. Sosa was not the first surgeon I went to see, but he was definitely the last! I was really pleased with his seminar at Palmetto. He is very straight forward and honest, which is something I find to be very important when you're looking for someone that is going to have your life in their hands. I went to the seminar of another surgeon that gave the run around when asked how many patients they had lost during surgery, that turned me away from that surgeon completely! Not Dr. Sosa, you don't even have to ask him, because it is something that he elects to tell those who attend his seminars right away.
I had surgery with Dr. Sosa on Dec. 22, 2010 and I'm very happy with my decision. Just know this, if you are looking for a Dr. that will hold your hand, Sosa is not that Dr., but if you are looking for a GREAT surgeon with lots of experience then go with Dr. Sosa, you will not regret it!

Great surgeon, extremely experienced. The doctor does not talk much to his patients, but what he lacks in social skills, he has in surgical expertise. I would definitely go back to him for any other surgery that I might need in the future.

Surgery only lasted about 40 minutes. He has performed over 4,000 LAP RNY procedures, so you are in and out really quick which is good because the longer you are under anesthesia, the longer it will take for you to wake up and recuperate completely.

I met Dr. Sosa back in 2001. I was his first Bariatric Surgery patient. Yeap, that's me, #1, so he calls me.

Let me begin by saying he is the best doctor I have ever had. His personality is key and his attention is overwhelming. You can really tell he cares about your well-being. His staff is great too.

I am grateful to have chosen him as my doctor for this surgery. I don't think I could've done it without his support and knowledge. He educated me on the pros and cons and I said YES, let's do it. If I had to do it again, I would go back to him without hesitation.

It's been 9 years since my surgery, I've been able to keep my weight off, it fluctuates a little from time to time but I always bounce back to where I think my body should be.

My hat goes off to Dr Sosa and his staff I love the fact that I made the choice to have my surgery with such an amazing Doctor I feel honered and Blessed that he took my case. My surgeon is Dr. Jorge Sosa. I went to his seminar at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, Fl. My 1st impression was that he was more handsome in person than his ads. His seminar was very serious in nature so that we knew exactly what we were going to face. The most unique thing about him was that he knew when to throw in jokes that would ease our fears. He is a very estute & precise physician/surgeon who is very passionate about our success with RNY. He addressed the risks & how many patients did not survive & the reasons for their demise. I rate him a 10 out of 10. His office, his nutritionist, the coordinator and staff have all gone through the surgery. It was great to deal with professionals that know exactly what we were going to face. He is more about his surgical competence than being your best friend and that's ok. My best friend would sugar coat the truth where Dr. Sosa says exactly what needs to be said which makes him my new best friend. At my final office visit, I have to admit, he was so sweet and caring. He is proud that he is with a valued "Center of Excellence"... and now I know why. I'm a bit scared of the surgery but at the end of the day, I'll know Dr. Sosa will be there. I have 2 friends who did their RNY so we can't all be wrong. Dr Sosa is the man with the plan. HIS OFFICE ACCEPTS MEDICAID!!! The only one in Miami.

Dr. Sosa is an excellent suregon. I had a no complications and I was feeling back to normal about 5 days after my surgery. No he is not the friendly type but let's be real he is a focused individual and your life is in his hands he takes he job very surely. I weigthed 450lb when I had my surgery and he took my case on without hesitation. He does his part the rest is truely up to you. You decide what your results will be. The moment you are wheeled into the recovery room the hard work begins that when you start to fight for your life and soon you will discover you are worth it and that is an amazing feeling. I would do it all over again. Your in excellent hands with Dr. Sosa.

Dr. Sosa is a very good surgeon. He is prompt and efficient. He is not going to be your best friend but I wasn't looking for a BFF, I was looking for a good surgeon. However, I don’t wish the pain I suffered immediately after the surgery, in the recovery room on anyone. I strongly recommend that you find out if all doctors put their patients thru the same recovery. If they don’t, I advise you to find a doctor that doesn’t make you suffer for hours the way I did. It was really bad and I am not exaggerating. I have been thru a C-Section where I took nothing, absolutely nothing for the pain after surgery and that was a walk in the park with ice cream compared to this. Please do your homework and ask your doctors what happens directly after the operation during the recovery period. If it is a standard practice to keep the patient awake and make them think they cannot breathe while they deal with a feeling of pain like your guts are ripping apart and your back is going to break then be prepared for it. However, if you find a doctor that does not find it necessary to make you go thru that then my advice is to go with that doctor. I am grateful my surgery went well but this isn’t a surgery that only one doctor knows how to perform. Fortunately, there are many Bariatric Surgeons in South Florida and most of them have as great of a reputation as Dr. Sosa. I would also check the hospitals, though Palmetto is Dr. Sosa’s hospital so you probably won’t end up there if you choose another surgeon.

I HAD GONE TO ONE OF DR. SOSA'S SEMINARS ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO AND WAS VERY IMPRESSED BUT I THOUGHT SURGERY WAS NOT AN OPTION FOR ME. HERE I AM 3 YEARS LATER ABOUT TO HAVE DR. SOSA PERFORM GASTRIC BYPASS ON ME AND I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER. I HAVE HEARD THE TESTIMONIALS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE EPERIENCED HIS WORK INCLUDING MY BEST FRIEND AND EVERYONE HAS THE SAME THING TO SAY ABOUT HIM, HE IS GREAT! I FEEL VERY LUCKY THAT DR. SOSA IS GOING TO BE MY SURGEON AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO BE MY TURN ON MARCH 2ND.
