After thinking about getting this surgery for over a year, I decided that I would go see a surgeon to see what it was all about, in addition to the research that I had done. I didn't have to wait long at all. I first met with his assistants, Rodilyn and Robin - thank God for them! Then I met with Dr. Inabnet. He was very positive about me having this surgery and felt that it would work for me. He explained the risks, even death, which scared me but I knew it was a possibility. I had numerous questions, such as getting pregnant, because I am only 21, in the future. He assured me that I would be able to have a healthy baby. This was my biggest concern. He also went over the different types of surgeries he did and I decided on Laproscopic Gastric Bypass. The aftercare program has been very good. If I have any questions they are right there to answer them. I will be seeing him every year from now on. They are very attentive and kind. I love the staff and my surgeon and wouldn't have chosen anyone else. He is very soft spoken but it really calms you in the consultation and before surgery. He is very considerate and thoughtful. I totally recommend him.

Although I haven't met Dr. Herron yet, I did email him to see if he could do anything to advance my appointment which was scheduled for early September, 2001. I was surprised when he emailed me back shortly after and said he would see what he could do. I was even further surprised when one of his assistants emailed me with an appointment date in late July. My first impressions are good. Will update when I mee him. :)
7/26/01 - I met with Dr.Herron and I must say this is the first time I have been to a Doctor's office where the staff has coming looking for me and I wasnt ready :). Dr. Herron was very informative and drew the operation for me. He answered most of my questions before I asked them and I felt very comfortable with him. His staff, Diana and Irene are really nice and easy to deal with. The only thing I dont like is the scope I have to go for. Dr. Herron answered all my questions even the difficult ones with a straight forward attitude and honest and open manner. I am scheduled for surgery on 9/25/01, sooner if I can get the paper work done faster.
I had my surgery on 11/30/01 and when I first opened my eyes in recovery all I could think was PAIN MEDS PLEASE!!! The pain soon subsided and except for a small lung problem I had an uneventful stay in the hospital. Dr. Herron and the hospital staff at Mt. Siani were wonderful. I was up and about doing regular things a few days after release. Unfortunately the person I used to work for fired me 3 days before my surgery so two weeks post op I was out in Manhattan looking for a job. The up side to that is that it has hastened my recovery immensely. All in all I have not experienced any of the horror stories I have heard or read about, I am tolorating foods well and trying to get my liquids in. Will write more after my drs. visit on 12/20/01.
I am now almost 6 months post op and over 100lbs lighter...I developed a stricture and had to be dilated three times but now i can even get part of junior wopper in when i am in the mood...

My impression of him is that he's very capable and confident in his demeanor. His office is extremely busy and the first consultation took several hours to complete. My wife and I both felt comfortable with what he had to say and the manner in which it was presented to us. He went through the risks and different types of surgeries and we decided on the LAP RNY.

I was surprised that getting the approval for insurance was as easy as it was. They handled everything. Up to this point, things couldn't have been easier.

This guy is awesome. I got through the surgery with no complications and am feeling great. He visited me every day and was very reassuring when I needed it the most. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I met with Dr. Herron Yesterday, 1/24/02. I liked him VERY much. He was patient, kind, informative and funny. He put me at ease immediately. His office staff is less than perfect, to put it KINDLY. His PA is nice enough and knowledgeable, but rushes you like the building is on fire. This happens on the phone and in person. His MA is abrupt and has precious little patience. She is not especially nice, and is not always clear in the information she gives. She also actually yelled at my mother on the phone when my mom asked her to clarify something! The front office staff was confused, and was WAY more interested in discussing food, LOUDLY, as well as eating it at the desk, both before and after my appt. than they were interested in assisting me. But...although this is unprofessional, they aren't doing my surgery so I can live with that. Overall, I feel I have made the right choice. Now I have to get my insurance to pay for it-with a BMI of 36 this may prove to be tricky! These are my experiences, and although others I have spoken to through this site are in agreement with me, another person might have a different experience. Remember, Dr. Herron's staff are only "the gatekeepers"! Although at times it almost seems like they are trying to make your pre op journey more difficult than need be, once the surgery is over your dealing with them is pretty much over, and now that today-May 2, 2002- I am officially Post Op, I can say that the important person in all this, Dr. Herron himself, is wonderful and just what you want in a surgeon!

Dr. Herron is a genius! From the moment I first met him I knew I made the right choice. The support group I attend at Mt. Sinai once a month has been so helpful. The only negative is that I had to wait several hours for my first appointment but now I can say it was well worth the wait! Dr. Herron took his time and explained everything to me. Having this surgery was the best decision I could have made for myself!

When I first met Dr Herron, I thought that he was the nicest guy in the world... Both him and his staff went above and beyond to help me out.... I had had difficulty with another surgeon and was left hanging in utter disbelief two days before my surgery was originally scheduled.... It was extremely tough on me both emotionally and physically..... Dr Herron's staff took me in and helped me handle the situation.
Over the course of time until my new surgery date, he staff was readily available to answer any questions I had to eleviate my anxiety....
Dr. Herron's is very explicit when it comes to aftercare...... you must take your vitamins.... you must make your scheduled visits.... you must attend support groups.... he is very adamant about his aftercare.....
At my first meeting with Dr. Herron, he answered all my questions regarding risks plus told me of a few others I didn't know about..... I was glad he did....
I think that fate was on my side having the first surgeon cancel and having Dr. Herron take over.... I would not think twice about recommending Dr Herron to anyone in the New York area contemplating the surgery.....
I think that a really good Dr should be both, surgically competent and have a good bedside manner but when it comes down to it..... it is not his personality that will be performing the surgery it is his skills....

I liked Dr. Herron right off. He took time to explain everything to my husband and I. He answered my (2 Pages) of questions. His staff was great also. I think he is one of the most "sought after" surgeons in NY. He will be following me for 2 years, to make sure I have no problems. Its been almost 7 months now, and I feel and look fantastic! I talk to his nutritionist and if I ever have a question, I email him - he answers with in a day. Whis is better his surgical competence, bedside manner or both? Well unfortunately he had a vacation scheduled right after my surgery - so I saw his associates. As far as surgicial compentence, I have complete trust in Dr. Herron. He's the best!
