The only thing I can say is I Love Him, he is wonderful. He has always taken the time to answer any questions I may have, and he is truly concerned about his patients before and after surgery. The office staff is very nice but very busy, you sometimes have to wait a very long time, but you can always find someone who is going to have the surgery or who has already had the surgery and we all share our experiences, I find it kinda like a mini support group, so I never really mind the waiting. When you go in for a visit you generally see the nurse practitioner first, she is also very wonderful. Then you see a nutritionist, I have found that I have seen a different one everytime, and they leave a little to be desired, they will however answer all of your questions. I have never been rushed by anyone I see in this office, and appreciate that, it makes me understand why there is such a long wait.

I will some be having an appt. w/ Dr. Ali. All the comments on this web page have been very positive about him. My concern is that he is young and doesn't have a lot of years under his belt? Do those who have seen him or have had surgery still feel very confident in placing your life in his hands? I believe that sometimes the newer doctors have learned the newest tecnology and that is a plus. But they also don't have the experience when something goes bad. What do you think?

Very respectful & genuine --caring, intelligent, careful.
Quite busy office = long wait times.
I was looking for high surgical competence and ability.

Dr. Ali is new to the surgical staff at UC Davis Medical Center. He is very personable and has a great attitude. He put me at ease right away. He is an associate of Dr. Bruce Wolfe, who had great things to say about his surgical abilities. Dr. Ali has been working in a large bariatric program in Virginia for the last few years. We are really lucky to have him here in Sacramento!

The UCDMC program is very comprehensive, but very busy! The entire program is designed to ensure that the patient has a thorough knowledge of the procedure and the required lifestyle changes. Dr. Ali is enhancing the program to ensure that they address the aftercare issues more fully. He is an exceptional person and an incredible surgeon!

I met with Dr. Ali for the first time in my pre-op appointment on 11/22/02. Since I have had a lot of anxiety about this surgery my prayer was that once I met Dr. Ali, I would either have absolutely no confidence in him or complete confidence in him. Well.......drum roll please....God answers prayers LOUD AND CLEAR! Dr. Ali was incredible! I brought in a typed list of 22 questions (he got a good laugh out of that!)and he answered EVERY single one of them with more detail and information than I even asked for! I was so totally impressed with him I can't even begin to tell you! When he walked out of the room after being with me for a good 30 minutes my husband looked at me and gave me a huge grin and a huge thumbs up! Dr. Ali KNOWS what he is doing. He takes great care with this surgery and spends the time to make sure everything is right. When he left there I knew that there was no way anyone was going to leave the operating room unless his standards were met. I told him that I loved his name...Mohamed Ali...he he he...he reminded me that he isn't the boxer...that is the other guy! The office staff was awesome...I especially like Sheila! She walked us through the 'Day of Surgery' detail. She was so informative and kind! There was not a thing I liked least except the wait in the waiting room! Dr. Ali emphasizes in a BIG way that communication with him and his staff afterwards is ESSENTIAL! He doesn't want anyone to hesitate to call or come in for any reason! They have hired people especially for talking to patients to help determine if they need to come in! He is also getting into the educational side of this surgery and it sounds like there are exciting plans in the works to educate patients on it. He did emphasize the risks of surgery without freaking you out. As of 11/22/02 he had done nearly 200 of them-no deaths-and at the max. 3 re-operates. One of those had no problem it was just exploratory! On a scale of 1-10, I would give Dr. Ali a 25! If I had to choose between surgical competence and bedside manner, I would definitely want surgical competence to outweigh it all...but with Dr. Ali, you get it all rolled into one incredible package! I know that I will be in good hands! If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me!

Dr. Ali was most awesome. He was kind, supportive and seemed as excited about my surgery as I am. More later.
