Mohamed Ali, M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center
My Dr is incredible, and he will always be my hero! He is patient, attentive, calm, takes an interest in you AFTER the fact, unlike so may others. rnHis staff and him are so great that it makes me so happy that I chose UC Davis for my provider. Anytime I have a questions they are always available, and he emails me back too, not just his staff. He put my husband at ease during the surgery and after, which was important to me. My kids, too, liked him very much. rnHe is no nonsense, and will let you know that right off. I like that about him. You know where you stand right away, and what he expects of you. Some people may think of this a a quick fix until they begin the process. He makes sure you know exactly what is expected of you, to make sure the patient is serious and will do what it takes to get yourself well and healthy. If you do what he asks, no problems. rnI have nothing negative, other than I don't get to see him enough!
I've met with Dr. Ali 2xs so far and both times he made me feel very comfortable and confident in him and the Uc davis Team, Dr Ali and staff were very informative in all area surrounding WLS. Dr Ali really emphasize on after care and follow ups. which made me happy knowing that I have a support team there for afterwards. Even though I am post -op, I rate Dr. Ali and team 10 out of 10!rnrnDr. William Fuller did my surgery - He came in and saw me when I was getting prep. and made sure everything was going okay. My stay at the hospital went smoothly, all staff were great and informative. The Bariatric team was in throughout the day, checking in on me, that was very reassuring-rnrnNo regrets on choosing this surgeon and his team and also this Hospital
Very congenial fellow. Knowledgable. I felt very comfortable with this surgeon. He appeared both surgically competent and had good bedside manner.rnFollowing surgery, I was mainly seen by dieticians and nurse practitioner-type staff and wished I would have been able to see the doctor more.rnAftercare was strongly emphasized but due to living 2+ hours from the surgery center, was difficult to accomplish on the clinic's schedule.rnI suspect that this surgery center may be largely funded by grant/research monies. I wondered sometimes how much patient care was driven by needing statistics....?
I have met both Dr Ali and Dr Fuller in person as well as through the seminars. I feel they are very knowledgable and straight forward. Thye seem like they really care about thier patients and want to help them reach thier goal. Excellent bedside manner.
Dr Ali appeared very clean, cut, young, and had this pleasant confident aura around him. During all my visits at UC Davis, he only came in for a few minutes..I either was speaking to one of his "fellows" which are his interns training to be his partners, or the nurse practioner. My opinion did not change of him because I observed and learned quickly that he did the surgery and not much of the talking..His office staff appears knowlegable, helping and caring...but usually not until You get into the loop...prior to the referral letter from Your MD they really don't have time to spend with you...I was calling daily between their office and my PCP office making sure things were expidited. I think if I hadn't been one to ask questions to a point of being obsessive and down right a nuisance. Their aftercare is compitent, you can call them anytime, but don't expect to get Ali. They do return messages fast though. I had an appointment one week after, and then two months, 6 months and so on and so forth. If I lived closer to Sac I would be able to participate in the other groups and activities they have. They emphasize multiple times with every appontment about the risks and comps of surgery, they even make you recite them and take a test. I think he is very good at what he does and is very busy...when I got sick in the hosptial he did come and talk to me and let me know what was going on and his plan...but that was the only time in a 4 day stay that I saw him, he could improve on actually making himself seen more.
My first impression with Dr Ali was that he was very informative and wanted me to know the risks of this surgery. He was very easy to talk to. I would recommend him highly to others.
His staff is wonderful. Especially Judy Y.
The RN nurse coordinator. she handled everything for me.
This was a gift from God to have this surgery done. Dr. Ali is very competant and trustworthy. I give him 10 stars out of 10!
Dr. Ali's bed-side manner was very professional and he made this happen for me only after making sure all my pre-op tests were complete. They wanted to make sure I was healthy for this surgery before going forward.
Very professional, and informative, but young - this was a concern initially. I learned he had performed several hundred of these operations, which quelled my concern over age/experience.
My impression of Dr. Ali only grew in respect and admiration. He is a no nonsense doctor, with great expectations of his patients as partners, yet balances that with a great sense of humor.
His staff or team are all wonderful. I have had not one negative experience yet, and do not expect to have one!
I truly did not have anything I liked least about Dr. Ali -
Future patients should know that Dr. Ali is kind and compassionate. He does like an organized and informed patient!
Dr. Ali spends time with his patients about what to expect during aftercare, and how to maximize the "honeymoon" period (1st 6 months-post-op). He and his team work together during this time.
There are monthly support group meetings which each patient is encouraged to attend. The staff team attends and facilitates these.
The initial meeting was a large group of potential surgery candidates. Dr. Ali did a comprehensive overview of the surgery, its risks, its benefits, etc. Then the 1st clinic appointment, we saw the presentation a 2nd time prior to seeing the doctor. Dr. Ali then came in and re-addressed the risks, and was completely open and answered all questions completely and thoroughly.
I would rate Dr. Ali extremely high - I am extremely glad he was my surgeon.
He is both a great clinician/surgeon, but he also has a great bedside manner - very rare and I am grateful he has both!
