Meridian Surgical Group Bariatric Center
I like Dr.Inman as sshe was very straight forward, which I like in a Doctor. She answer all questions completely.I do wish that you spent more time with the Dr. as more questions pop in your mind as time(which is plenty) passes as you are waiting for surgery. Her staff was helpful and did try to answer what questions they could.I like the fact that Dr. Inman let you know up front that there was risks but then there is risks being morbidly obese too.I would rate Dr. Inman on a scale of 10.
I was very impressed with Dr. Inman and her entire staff. I felt that she was genuinely interested in helping those in the meeting to reach their goals of weight loss through surgery.
The staff did not assume they could take charge of you, they asked questions, were very friendly, did not look down or talk down to those folks who had come seeking a miracle for their lives.
Dr. Inman does emphasize that there will have to be a change in our habits and thinking and that we have to work to make the program successful.
She addressed the risks of surgery and the preventives we can start now to minimize those risks before surgery is scheduled, such as increasing walking and other activities to increase our cardiovascular function.
Overall, I would rate Dr. Inman as very positive, very honest but dedicated to the task of helping morbidly obese people to have hope of longer life. Currently we can expect to live 20 years less than normal people, but by following her directions and suggestions, we can increase not only the length of life, but the quality.
The waiting room was extremely full of future patients and others who were there for follow up meetings with nutritionists and though my appointment was scheduled for 1:30, and I arrived before 1:00 to ensure I'd be on time.....I realized also she could be delayed if there was an emergency....however it was still after 3:00 pm before we were all ushered into a conference room for the presentation. This was the only negative about the entire meeting, however, I was willing to endure this because of the need.
I am one who must have a great bedside manner and be able to approach my physicians with questions, but would relinquish that requirement for surgical competence. If you get both, that would be a great plus. I feel that they are both offered with Dr. Inman and her staff.
Dr. Inman was very upfront about everything regarding the surgical procedure and explained it in great detail. I liked her immediately and feel no apprehension about having her as my doctor. I haven't had much contact with the staff so far, but so far they have been very understanding and helpful. The only negative thing I can say is that it takes so long to actually get a surgery date scheduled. I had my initial evaluation in December 2001, and was approved the end of January 2002, but my surgery could not be put on the schedule until the end of July - so far away. I don't know a whole lot about the aftercare program yet but I'm sure I will know by the time I meet with the nutritionist in June. I feel Dr. Inman is an excellent surgeon; she was very nice during the evaluation process and explained the procedure in detail during the informational portion of the meeting. I have heard that Dr. Inman has a good bedside manner, which after this type of procedure is a great asset for her. I guess I'll find out for myself in about 5 months.
Very intelligent and informative. Very busy office a little impersonal, but they get the job done. Insurance follow through was excellent. Dr. Inman does a large group discussion and then normally meets one on one too. But I didn't meet with her because she was rushed so I met with another Dr. who was pleasant but seemed less experienced telling me to ask her later, But unfortunately I have no meetings with her directly, just her staff and support meetings. I feel pretty well informed about aftercare and risks from the lecture. My surgery is not until 09/04/2002 and I initially contacted for appointment with their office in 11/2001 so expect a wait. Also, no one in their surgeon group does laparoscopic. Only one surgeon in Indiana does, he is at Wishard and doesn't do anyone over 350.
My first consultation with Dr. Inman was 1-7-02 at the St. Vincents BTC in Indianapolis. Each patient was taken back individually for weight check & measurements. Then all of the patients went back to a room together for approximately an hour to listen to Dr. Inman discuss the different types of surgeries, the pros & cons of each and to ask any questions we might have. She was very effecient in all of her discussions although you could tell she has done it numerous times!! She had all the stats I wanted to know and answered all the questions exactly the way I had hoped she would! She was actually more personable than I had expected(after reading some different opinions on this site I had expected her to be much more straight forward but she was really nice). She isn't as STRICT on the aftercare as I had expected but said I could come back the rest of my life if I wanted so I suppose after the first year it is up to me! The office staff was GREAT! Very friendly and trying their hardest to work effeiciently with such a large number of patients that were in my group! Overall I was really happy with all I had learned during the consult and I would recommend Dr. Inman to anyone looking for a bariatric surgeon.
I have only met her once and that was at my conso. She seemed very nice plus I was in need of a pcp who was understanding of the surgery. She was great and suggested a couple and to that I have a date now.
I had the choice to go with someone else so I could get my surgery sooner but said NO!!
I wanted to stay with DR. Inman.
She seems very professional and confident of WLS changing my health and curing me of hypertension and diabetes. Her office calls me back promptly when I have left messages, and I am very happy about that. I have only met her once, but I am happy that I have her. At the end of my consult, she told me that I can come back as many times as I wanted (No charge) to listen to future consutlations. I feel she is very competent and has done hundreds and hundreds of these surgeries. Her aftercare program is wonderful at St Vincents. There are several support groups there and the people are wonderful and caring. She does stress the importance of aftercare and says that is one of the factors in keeping the weight off. Dr Inman stated all the risks and complications of the surgery and the ways that she is preventing some of the risks from occuring. I would give her 8/10 because of the great outcome her patients have had. In MHO, I think it would be great to have a doctor that has a good bedside manner and surgical competence. My friend is perfectly happy with Inman. I do feel she is reserved and I am more comfortable with outgoing Dr's. Since I haven't personally had surgery yet, I will have to see how I feel about her bedside manner after mine.
DR INMAN AND HER STAFF WERE ALL VERY NICE AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH HER FROM THE FIRST TIME I MET HER. THE ONLY BAD THING I CAN SAY IS DO TO MY LACK OF PATIENCE, I FELT IT TOOK THEM A LONG TIME TO GET THE INFO SENT TO MY INS CO. DR INMAN TALKS ABOUT EVERYASPECT OF THE SURGERY PRE AND POST OP. DR INMAN TELLS YOU HOW THE SURGERY CAME ABOUT AND PROS AND CONS OF THE SURGERY. DR INMAN IS VERY BUSY SO SHE CUTS STRAIGHT TO THE POINT AND DOESN\'T BEAT AROUND THE BUSH.
I have an appointment with Dr. Inman on November 26th, it was the soonest I could get in. I have heard good and positive things about Dr. Inman and her staff at St. V's Bariatric Center, so I am hoping that I will be able to get my questions answered and to be able to go through with this. I know it can be an emotional rollercoaster while waiting for approval and such, so I will work on making it a positive experience for me.
I met with Dr. Inman on November 26th and was impressed with her energy and honesty. She answered a lot of questions and treated me respectfully. Even though this surgery is very risky, I feel more at ease because she is a trauma surgeon and deals with emergencies all the time. As for dealing with my personal issues (co-morbities) relating to weight loss surgery, she suggested a vena cava filter to be put in my vein to block blood clots, which is an important thing with me since I have coagulation problems. I was comfortable with her professional manner; she is an intense woman and I expect she will be just as intense as a surgeon.
My first doctor was Dr Bruce Schimer in Charlottesville Va. And he was wonderful and his staff was just as professional. He did put you threw a battery of test but I felt I knew I was really for the surgery after the test and taking to him and his staff. Then I got tranfered to Indiana and I was referred to Dr Inman's office. And after Dr Schimer office I was not impressed at all. I felt like cattle being herded in and out compared to Dr Schimer. But I was pesist and I worked thru it and began to like Dr Inman very much. She very caring but it hard to deal with 2 offices of people the Baratric Center and her office too. Her post-op was the best because I did get to talk with her more and her office staff does treat you more on a one to one not cattle anymore......
