LifeBridge Health Bariatrics Program Bariatric Center
Christina Li is a dedicated bariatric surgeon who practices her expertise with great knowledge, understanding and skill. I felt that she truly understood the "plight" of obesity and was compassionate while being honest about the risks and realities of bariatric surgery. As an RN, I had many concerns about the surgery and postop course. I am feeling great and I am so happy with my continued success I have lost 40 lbs in 9 weeks and the scale keeps moving down...( I had the sleeve BTW)
Doctor Li is the most compassionate, smart and capable surgeon and doctor I've ever had. She is warm, friendly and committed to her patient's health and well being. Dr.Li is thorough and professional and adheres to the highest standards of patient care.
On top of all of that, she is a dream with which to work. I was sure this surgery was not going to work, that no one understood what I was going through. Doctor Li gave me confidence and hope. She met me where I was and lead me to a path of healthy living I could never have found on my own. She helped me to change my life and she saved my life. I will forever be grateful.
Words can never begin to truly express the great work that Dr. Li and her bariatric team do for so many people battling excess weight. Dr. Li is not only a great physician but also a skilled and compassionate surgeon. Being in the healthcare field, that is a rare combination. Her hugs are the best! You feel how much she really cares about your health and well being. Dr. Li is certainly heaven sent to my life. Since my surgery in October, 2013, my health and well being has already improved ten fold. I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Li, the bariatric team, and the great support group. Talk about life changing- it certainly changes your life for the best.
I had RNY in 2007. I was very apprehensive about the procedure and did a great deal of research. In talking with various surgeons in the area, Dr Li struck me as the most sincere and straightforward. She gave me the facts the risks and stressed that this was not a quick fix, it's a tool to help with long term weight loss. She and the staff gave me all of the information needed to ensure I experienced success but the actual execution and commitment was up to me. I am here to say that with their continued support and my continued commitment, I am 6 years post op and 150lbs down with three 5k races under my belt and in training for a half marathon. I highly recommend Dr Li for her commitment to her patients, her profession, and quality of care. When my husband decided to have a gastric sleeve, I strongly recommended Dr Li, he listened and is down 250lbs over the course of 2 years, is a triathlete and has completed a half marathon. Dr Li is an amazing surgeon and truly cares about the health and well being of each of her patients pre and post op.
Dr. Li was kind, caring and very informative. I was not sure if I even wanted to have surgery or sure of what type of surgery would be best for me so I first attended a seminar at Sinai Hospital. Dr. Li was one of the first surgeons that introduced herself to me. I was very impressed by her warmth so I made an appointment. To my satisfaction, she was just as pleasant if not more so through out the entire process. There was a problem with the PCA pump while I was in recovery. Once she heard about it, she came right back to check on me to reassure me and my family members and stayed in contact with the anesthesiologist. The office staff is kind and friendly. She has an entire program in place with a dietician as well as access to support groups and other support services. She has a structured aftercare program that she strongly adheres to after surgery. She addressed the risks of surgery throughout the entire process and again, in explicit detail, the week of the surgery. Her competence, bedside manner and overall demeanor were all excellent! I rate Dr. Christina Li's ovarall care as 10 out of 10!I highly recommend her to anyone in the Batlimore, MD regaion interested in WLS.
Today I am 2 years post-op and am still feeling that my decision to entrust Dr. Li with my surgery was the best decision ever. It has been life-changing for me and Dr. Li's guidance throughout the process has been stellar. I trust her judgement implicitly and feel that there is no better surgeon around. While I know that I deserve at least some credit for my own success, much of it goes to Dr. Li and her team and for that I will remain forever grateful! I still unconditionally recommend Dr. Li.
From the first appointment with Dr. Li to discuss the possibility of bariatric surgery, until now, 3 weeks post-op from gastric bypass, she has consistently provided the ideal combination of warm support, guidance, knowledge, and encouragement, and I would highly recommend her to anyone considering bariatric surgery. She has been a pleasure to work with and did a beautiful job!!!! She is also surrounded by an amazing team, which has made the process a smooth and positive one for me. Several of the staff on the Sinai Bariatric team have actually had bariatric surgery by Dr.Li, which is a testimonial to her, and has been extremely helpful to me throughout the various stages of the process, both before and after surgery. I'd give Dr. Li and her team 10 stars if I could!!!!!
**UPDATE** I just read the 3/3/14 review of Dr. Li by teresalicia. You didn't say why Dr. Li decided not to do your surgery, and that is not necessarily our business. That said, to make an indictment of that nature, unless you're a physician yourself, is inappropriate. And the fact that a relatively inexperienced surgeon decided to take on your case, does not justify your negative assessment of Dr. Li. Based upon my experience with Dr. Li, I found that she carefully weighs the risks associated with surgery against the physical and emotional condition of her patients. I perceive your comments as slanderous and arrogant, without providing the facts that substantiate your conclusion.
I am a nurse and had my surgery with Dr. Li in November 2012. As nurses we are very critical of the providers we choose. I am so happy I picked Dr. Li. She was very understanding and caring. She made sure that I held up my end of my responsibilties to ensure I had the best outcome. I have had absolutely no issues post op. I believe this is because she took the time to make sure everything was done correctly and was the right thing for me. I have worked on a Bariatric Surgical Floor (not Sinai). I could have easily had my surgery at that hospital but chose Dr. Li because she cares about your outcome and long term success and not just doing an operation to do so. By me working on a Bariatric Floor before I have seen what can happen when you don't have a dedicated surgeon. If you are considering bariatric surgery I would recommend Dr. Li not only as a nurse but as a patient.
I work at Sinai Hospital and for privacy reasons did not want to have my surgery there. I went to four different surgeons and then wound up in an information session with Dr. Li. Against everything I thought I wanted, I had to admit that Sinai Hospital and Dr. Li were the best and safest options for me. I am so glad that I made the decision to go with Dr. Li. Some of the other surgeons I saw were very cavalier and acted as if surgery was a quick fix and no big deal. Dr. Li and her staff are completely honest about surgery being a tool and not a quick fix. They have such a comprehensive program in place to keep you safe, healthy and optimize your success. Don't go to Dr. Li if you want her to only tell you what you want to hear. Go to her if you want the best and safest care in an honest and caring environment. If I listed all of the reasons why I am thankful for her and the program she has put together, there would be no space left on this web site. Bottom line is...you will succeed as much as you put effort into it. And you will only be safe and healthy if you have an honest and skilled surgeon who is willing to tell you the tough truths that some people find hard to say. Dr. Li and her staff have found an amazing balance and are able to partner with you and help you face some difficult truths while being compassionate and supporting you through the journey. Not only have I gained my life back but I have made some amazing friends along the way who truly celebrate each and every victory with me. Cannot say enough good about Dr. Li.

I absolutely love, love, love Dr. Li! Her bedside manner is impeccable and it is so evident that she truly loves her job. Her staff is professional, kind and represent her very well. The program is well designed and contains all the resources you need to be successful! Their seminars give you all the information you need to make the best decisions for you. I love how they all remain a part of your journey through their awesome aftercare program. I live 45 minutes away Sinai Hospital and while I could have had my surgery 5 mins from my house, I would do it all again just to have Dr. Li!
To be honest, when I first decided that WLS might be the right step for me I was gung ho and ready to have at it! Then, I went to my initial appointment and was so overwhelmed with everything that I needed to do to prepare! However, I was given so much support and left with a plan on how to get everything done. I felt let down when I received a call that I needed to have my gallbladder removed, but Dr. Li made the right decision based on what was found on one of the pre-op tests. Dr. Li recommended the sleeve for me in the beginning, but I had to be honest that I really don’t have self-control so she said "Bypass!” And that's what we did.
I was scared to death on my ride to the hospital questioning whether or not I was doing the right thing, what would life be like afterwards, what if it doesn't work.... I checked in, got my number, they weighed me, and prepped me for surgery so quickly that I didn't have time to change my mind.
I'll be honest, from the moment I woke up, I felt like I was in sheer hell. I was in so much pain and it was over Thanksgiving 2011, so the food commercials didn't help! I felt like I was starving. The care and attention I received was incredible. In fact, I would say it was a little too much at times. But everyone who waited on me and took care of me was amazing. And a lot of the nurses and staff had WLS themselves. They would come in and talk to me and calm me down. I was in the hospital for about 5 nights total. My lower intestine had apparently "fallen asleep" and the gas I was filled with couldn't get out. Dr. Li called me from home (I could hear her children in the background) and checked on me very often.
About a week after I left the hospital I was having pain again. It was own fault, I wasn't drinking enough. Dr. Li was frank with me. I remember exactly what she said "You need to call your therapist because you just lost your best friend." (food) I was laying there whining to her and the Nurse Practitioner that I didn't want it anymore and to undo it. lol I was even mad at her when I left. But, she was right. Dr. Li gave me back my life!
Her bedside manner and honesty are sincere and to the point. I would say if she doesn't feel comfortable operating on someone she wouldn't do it. And I bet there is a darn good reason for it.
I am sure it's tedious for Dr. Li to go over the same information with everyone and answer the same questions all day long. Never once did she seem annoyed or bothered by it. Every visit ends with a hug and encouragement. Everyone involved with my WLS journey was incredible to me. I still call the nutritionist or email her. I called in when I had my first flu with my new stomach and everyone was trying to help me. I am so glad I chose Sinai and Dr. Li to be my surgeon. It’s not possible to thank everyone enough. My only regret is why I waited so long to do it?!
