Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgery Institute, P.C. Bariatric Center
I have not met Dr. Champion yet. But I have emailed him. All I can say is any surgeon who can answer emails is a winner. I emailed Dr. Champion my concerns and questions and the very next day, I recieved a reply with all the answers to my question. Plus he has a very informative website. UPDATE HERE....UPDATE HERE....READ MY PROFILE FOR REASONS FOR DR. CHANGE. Dr. Williams is MY CHAMPION now!! :o)
I was origianlly scheduled with Champion, but could get surgery sooner and cheaper with his new partner, Williams. Also, Champion has done thousands of these surgeries and I fear may be getting a little sloppy -- just my personal parionia -- while Williams learned from Williams and is trying to build a reputation. At this point it would look very bad if Williams killed a patient. I figure he is trying harder to do a good job.
Williams was pleasant and patient with my interview of him about his professional experience and why he chose to do bariatric surgery. Had the right answers.
I was surprised to find that he is African American, I guess because I had seen a photo of Champion but not Williams. He's short and cute.
He was great about explaining everything, which I feel qualified to judge because I've done so much research on this surgery listening to him was more like a quizz of his knowledge. He knew everything.
I'll give a post-op review if I live. I'm in really good physical condition, so if I don't live he would have to be a pretty lousy surgeon. Will let you know.
Pre Op: I've not met him yet, but Dr. Williams is Dr. Ken Champion's partner. I decided to go with him because I could get the surgery much sooner. Dr. Champion is world-famous for lap RNY surgery, and according to his staff, Dr. Williams is remarkably skilled and experienced with this surgery. I work in the medical field, so I meticulously studied his CV and profile before I made the decision, and I feel good about it.
The staff there has been fantastic. They have been the epitomy of efficiency, professionalism, and courtesy. They have helped me through the managed care mine field and I am so grateful to them for everything!
My first impression of Dr.Williams was how young he looked. Once we spoke I was very comfortable with him and I realized just how knowledgeable he is on bariatrics. The office staff of Champion/Williams were wonderful. They handle all of the paper work regarding the insurance and kept me up to date when I would call there. I would recommend any to see either doctor. They after care that was taught to me by Michelle was explained throughly. The one thing that is stressed is that if you follow the plan you will have high success rate at obtaining your goal.
Dr. Williams has been very kind & supportive since our first appointment. He is rather "shy"...or perhaps it is better to say he is not very outgoing. But he made sure we knew what I am facing...and has been very accomodating.
My surgery is set for tomorrow, so hopefully I can update this soon to tell you how easy it all was!
My first impression of Dr. Williams was positive. He was knowledgeable and polite. The office staff were mostly nice, just quite busy. The nurse Michelle was very informative and did a great job with pre-op teaching, and seems concerned on follow-up calls. I felt very confident in their hands from the start. I live a distant away, and am being followed at home by a local MD, but am looking forward to my 6 month follow-up this spring to see Dr. Williams and tell him personally how he helped change my life for the better. I would certainly recommend him to others!
I was originally scheduled to have my WLS with Dr. J.K. Champion, who I finally had the opportunity to meet for the first time on November 30, 2001. I was told that Dr. Champion is the SURGEON of ALL SURGEONS-the BEST NATIONWIDE, for the RNY-both LAP & Open, and the VBG. I must say that I was quite impresssed when I was informed by the office staff that Dr. Champion had taken on a new partner, Dr. Mike Williams. First impressions are lasting ones. Dr. Williams was a perfect gentleman, reserved, professional, competent and quite thorough. I had no problem knowing that he would be the one to do the Roux-en-Y by Lap (my WLS). I was HIS VERY FIRST PATIENT~so I feel special as well as honored to have this gentleman to take care of me. I was MOST impressed with his putting my mind at ease, and answering the few questions I had left. Dr. Champion had previously answered my list of 6 pages. Dr. Williams also took his time and further explained the procedure and the risks involved. Dr. Williams's credentials and publications speak for themselves. He is SKILLED and KNOWS what he is doing. The office staff office staff is ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!! He treated me with honesty and concern for my total health. Videoscopic Institute of Atlanta (the office of Dr. Champion & Dr. Williams) has Pre-and Post Op Support Groups as well as an exercise class. Aftercare is emphasized-you have to sign a contract. Both physicians are strict about their expectations. If you follow their instructions to the letter, you can't go wrong and you'll have much success. I know that it's been said that no one can get a review of 100% - some folks may even become skeptical of such an individual. Overall, on a scale of 1-10, he's OFF THE SCALE in my estimation! His surgical competence is above excellence. Thank you, Dr. Williams for helping me to live a longer, healthier, happier and more energetic life!!Thank you Dr. Champion for introducing me to Dr. Williams. I'm SO EXCITED!!
