I had gastric by-pass in Nov 2007 and am alive today because of that decision. Dr Gachassin and his Staff are exceptional. He and his staff keep you informed, answers your concerns and through his office and LGMC keeps and helps you with weight loss problems by having support group meetings each month. There is nothing negative I can say. There is a dietician, a fitness coach, a weight loss therapist on board and many more that are there to help you along the way. I lost over 100lbs and had no issues to date with my surgery. I also work in an office with another of Dr. Gachassin's patients and she was the one that first referred me to him. I waited 1 year from her surgery date to see if she would have complications and she had none and decided to go to his pre surgery seminars to help make up my mind about choosing him as a surgeon and I can say that I have no regrets about my choice. He addressed all my concerns about the risks of surgery conducted question/answer sessions with all attendees. His aftercare program is awesome!!

I really feel at home with Dr. Gachassin he makes you feel as your his only Patient.rnI would send my best friend to this Doctor as I trust him with my life. He is there for you after hours and during office hours no matter how big or small he is there. Dr Gachassin is involved after surgery also in the support meetings and aftercare. He explains the risks and makes sure you understand this surgery is just a tool and you have certain things you need to do for it to work. Future patient's should read up on the proceduce and ask how many surgery's surgeon has done. Yes He did asnwer all my qyestions and more. No nevert a negative word do I have from my Doctor!!!!!!If you feel that you need a Wonderful surgeon in Lafayette La area for Gastric Bypass check out Dr Gachassin @1000 west Pinhook Rd Suite 204 Lafayette La 70503 337-233-9900 I thank this Dr. for changing my life.

My first impression of Dr. Gachassin was excellent. He answered all of my quesions and made me feel confident in his competence. His office staff was very pleasant on the phone and in person. He requires 2 days of classes with a dietician pre-op. My surgery is scheduled for November 10, 2008.

I have previously given my opinion on Dr. Gachassin.

Dr. Gachassin was very relaxed and easy to talk to. What I really liked about his office is that I was able to schedule and appointment with him without waiting months for his schedule to clear and without having to go through a whole bunch of preliminary people (other doctors and support staff). His philosophy is that it doesn't make sense to make a patient wait weeks/months to see him--next to the primary care physician, he should be one of the first people you consult with. His staff is very pleasant, and his assistant is very nice (God knows I called her enough times to warrant an apology). The program that he's heading at East Jefferson Hospital is in it's beginning stages, but the aftercare program will be similar to the OTHER ONE here in New Orleans (I won't name any names there). Dr. Gachassin was very thorough in going over the risks, and I felt as though it actually mattered to him that I understand the material. As far as his bedside manner, his attitude is very positive and his mannerisms are pleasant--like one of those cute doctors off of "ER".

i have to say i could copy linda sterns's comments on doctor gachassin and his staff, word for word. i cannot say it enough, how happy i am that god led me to choose this particular doctor to do my surgery, and care for me as he does. he is so caring and helpful.
i've had a tough time since my surgery. not only was/is doctor gachassin there for me as my surgeon, he has become a dear and trusted friend. in my case, not only did i unfortunately have some of the sometime usual things happen to me,that are common to this kind of surgery... i was also traumatized with panic attacks, which i don't believe are a usual occurance. doctor gachassin did all he could to understand why this was happening to me, and help me through the horrible fright these attacks caused me. for that,i cannot thank him enough.
although i can call his office and talk to him anytime it is necessary to do so,he allows me to go one step further and email him. during the worse of times,i wrote and told him on a daily basis how i was feeling. i still write him, and he always gets back to me quickly, with a suggestion or words of encouragement.
he recently started a support group, but sadly i may be unable to attend on the nights they meet. i work several nights a week, and i live 90 minutes away. hopefully, some day soon, someone in my small south louisiana community will also have surgery with doctor gachassin, and i can carpool with them to a support meeting that might be on a night i don't work.
i am grateful to have made a friend in linda stern (who had sugery a few months before i did). she kindly sent me a letter to give me the highlights of the meeting. i'm praying someone might volunteer to help doctor gachassin in printing up a monthly newletter, to mail out or post on a website, for those of us who live so far as i do, from the city, and cannot attend on a regular basis.

in conclusion...
there are some really good doctors in new orleans doing weight loss surgery. i cannot comment on them because i've never met them. but, i can say, in my experience... they don't come any better than doctor philip gachassin. when it comes to professionalism, being sure his patients are fully informed and prepared, individual personal attention and the absolute best of care given to all his wls patients.... he certainly does go that extra mile.
in my book....on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 could not possibly be high enough. he would burst past that 10 and soar to 100, in a heartbeat!! ~~Smile~~

PS. to the person reading this review, if you're not convinced that you should choose doctor gachassin for your wls surgery, write me at ([email protected]). i'll give you my phone number so we can talk. i love bragging about my doctor.

I thought he was awfully young when I met him and was a little concerned about his capabilities. After his having to do an emergency gall bladder surgery while I was waiting to be approved for WLS, I became convinced he might know what he was talking about. Did WLS on me 3/20/03. Extremely caring, answered all my silly questions. Took plenty of time, has a great bedside manner. He always answers my phone calls if I need him. He gives specific written aftercare instructions which gives you just about anything you might expect. He will be starting group sessions shortly (he has only been doing surgery in this area for 8-9 mos). Office staff was helpful. The doctor is very thorough in letting you know what the risks are. As I said, answered all my questions. I'm glad I chose him. I would recommend him to anyone.
