Dr. Gachassin is one of a kind. He has the best bed side manner and has help create a magnificent program for the self pay patient at a decent price. He really cares about his patients, I know because I think I am a pain in the ass but he never treats me that way, just always thier to help in whatever way possible. He even came in on a Sunday to check on me. He is truly the best!!

Dr. Eschete is very compassionate and has a great bedside manner. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking bariatric surgery. He is easy to speak with and it is evident that he truly cares about his patients and their well being. Dr. Eschete and I are affilliated with the same hospital so we see each other in the hallways. And every time he sees me, he remembers who I am and never hesitates to say hello and question how I am doing. As a patient, that means so much to me.

I have had multiple co-workers also receive bariatric surgery with Dr. Eschete and all have agreed, he's just all together a "winner winner chicken dinner"!!

Dr. Gachassin was the the third surgeon that I heard speak on weight loss surgery. I was very impressed with him because unlike the others he seemed to really care about his patients. His presentation was very informative but most of all he was not trying to push anyone into making a decision right away. In fact he advised that surgery should be a last resort and we should think about our options before making a decision.
My surgery was almost 5 years ago and I have never regretted my decision of having the gastric bypass and choice of surgeon. I feel that I was well prepared before and after the surgery. He and his entire staff has always been helpful and supportive. All of my concerns and questions were addressed,
The program is very structured right down to the step by step information binder that is provided to all patients. I always feel comfortable and have his full attention at office visits. He truly cares for his patients and there well being. On a scale of 1 to 10 he is definitly a 10 on his surgical compentence as well as bedside manner.

I would and have recomended Dr. Gachassin to my family and friends for any surgery.

Dr. G gave me the tools I needed to be able to make the life changes I have since the surgery over two years ago. And even though I experienced a set back of an internal hernia, I will forever be grateful to Dr. G and his team for my amazing journey. Losing 150 lbs and maintaining my weight at 125 is a goal I wanted to achieve and have had nothing but good experiences with him and his staff.

I know everyone has their opinion and their own experience. I will let you know about my experience with Dr Gachassin. Back in 2002he was working in Metairie and was in practice with a friend of mine. I had spoken to my friend about the surgery and he did not want to even discuss it with me but he stated it was to dangerous. Well I worked in an emergency room and when a 900 pound patient came in I just cried because I didn't want to be her. I went back to my friend. At this time I had never met Dr Gachassin. My friend told me he still didn't like the idea but the only way he would let me have it is if his partner did it(Dr Gachassin). I met Dr Gachassin and he set down with me and explained EVERYTHING to me and the risks. I explained to him that I could leave his office and get hit by a bus. For 7 months I fought with the hospital I worked for to pay for it. When they finally said yes my surgery was in August 2003. My surgery was 5 hours long. Probably 2 hours after surgery Dr Gachassin was in my room to check on me. He had to leave for some other reason but came back and spent 2 hours in my room just chatting with me and making sure I had all my answers and was confortable.
After surgery and I got to go home and life was good, he fussed my when I did something wrong and prasied me when I was on track. I was so sad when he moved to Lafayette. After Katrina I made poor choices and my life style was crazy and I gained most of the 160 pounds that I had lost. I heard about surgery revision and a doctor I know in Metairie does it and I scheduled 2 appointements and cancelled them. I wanted to go back to the doctor that I started with. So since November 2010 I have been going back and forth from Metairie to Lafayette to see Dr Gachassin. My only complaint is that I am trying to get him to move back to Metairie and he keeps telling me to move to Lafayette. Dr Gachassin gives it to people straight. If you are overweight and don't want to be told that then don't go the doctor. Also you are not ready for the surgery. I asked him to redo my surgery and he told me no, it was to dangerous but we have options but I needed to change my lifestyle again. I am working on that. This is not a fix surgery and all is well in the world. The patients have to work at it and keep working. I am the type of person that if you don't want an honest answer don't ask me the question. His office has been most accomodading and always looking to help me when I am in a bind with me coming from Metairie. Like I said this is my experience. Also when he did my sugery I had to a living will. On my updated living will Dr Gachassin and my friend are the ones to decide how to treat me. I would never put my family through that and I can't trust anyone more than these to people.

Watch out for double billing..even with insurance they will charge you 250, then charge your ins comp. the same amt. Had to fight over 3 mts to get some of my money back and he still owes me 100. Do they think fat people are dumb? When they lead you to that lil room in the back be ready to pay. Bad practices. Rude receptionist.

Dr G did my surgery on December 1, 2009. I love him and his staff both they are super to work with. I was very worried about the sugery because I have Protein C Defiency, which causes me to have blood clots. I have been on Coumadin since I was 31, I am now 46. But he reassured me everything would be alright and it was. The surgery is life changing forever. During the first two months I did experience complications, but every obstacle has been over come and I am a success! I am on my way to reaching my goal, I have lost 135 pounds in 9 months and steady dropping, slowly but surely. My biggest advice for anyone considering surgery is make sure you have the best doctor and staff (which I did) and then make sure you follow-up and are in some sort of support system because there will be LOTS of questions to ask and a lot to learn every day! www.renewedreflections.com My favorite blogging site to help and be helped!

I am so pleased that I chose Dr. Gachassin for my Gastric Sleeve Surgery. My surgery experience was phenomenal (before, during and after). He was very informative, caring and attentive. His office staff makes you feel like you are important and part of their family. On a scale from 1 to 10 I give Dr. Gachassin 10+. I would encourage anyone comtemplating surgery to choose Dr. Gachassin for their surgeon.

What was your first impression of him/her?
He was very friendly. Had a smile on his face and was very eager to help with surgery.

How did your impression change over time?
As soon as he got the surgeon's fee, he wasn't as friendly or eager to have contact.

How would you describe his/her office staff?
Staff was nice. His PA was always sweet and professional. The nurse/MA, was nice as well. The other staff members don't speak to you unless you speak to them, although they have smiles on their faces.

What did you like least about him/her?
How little compassion he had post op. Post op visits, he spoke to me in such a belittling manner I refuse to go back to anymore follow up visits.

Does he/she have a structured aftercare program?
His support staff-Lisa, Rhonda, Amber, Patti, Julie...those women are just fantastic. Very supportive, understanding, compassionate and attentive.

How did he/she address the risks of surgery?
Very little. But it was gone over.

How would you rate him/her overall?
I don't think it would be nice to give my honest rating on this man.

Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great?
Surgical competence. He has no bedside manner. He's quite arrogant and to be honest, a s***.

I had the Gastric Sleeve December 1, 2009. I am still in the process of getting my life back on track but Dr. G and his staff are amazing. They are always there for you when you need them. They will answer any questions you have. They don't make you feel like crap if you make a wrong step, they just help you get back in the right direction. I am so glad I found Dr. G and his staff. They are the best.
