Julio S. Teixeira M.D. Bariatrics Bariatric Center
My first impression of Dr. Teixeira was instant acceptance. I knew that he was the docotr to perform my surgery. After meeting him formally, I realized that he was a no nonsense man and that he was of few words which I absolutely loved from the beginning. His office staff was on top of their game and very efficient. There was not anything that I did not like about him. Future patients should be assured that this is a top notch certified docotr who knows exactly what he is doing and very skilled and professional. His aftercare is was very good and he throughly explained the risk of surgery from beginning to end. I would rate him one of the best Bariatric surgeons in the country and in the NY state area. I believe that surgical competence and bedside manner go hand in hand. It show the patient that you care about them before and after surgery and also that you are not just another body but that you are a life that has been saved by your surgeons hands.

Beautiful smiles. Listen very well as you talk. My very first day with him, he seemed very tired. I was a bit concerned about that then I changed once I had my 2nd visit. His office staff are overworked. We started off on the wrong foot, but they are beautiful people. Special thank you to Nannie for pushing through all my paper work while keeping the communication line open. Ha Nannie made it happened at the very last minute. I got my doctors letter, approval from the insurance on friday and now I am on my way to a new me. More to come...... Saw the surgeon only one time after surgery and that was on the day I was getting ready to leave the hospital. christine was actually the person that visited me to go over my health. I like her alot. Wish she was my surgeon. On the other hand, he did a good job. His presence would have given him excellent.
In my humble opinion....
First impression was "eh" he seems ok, seemed nice enough.
Over time I came to find him lacking in empathy.
Office Staff is extremely overworked, I credit this to Dr. Teixiera's greed. If he weren't so greedy he would not still be accepting new patients when his existing patients are forced to wait HOURS to see him. Every single visit I sit in the waiting room for HOURS. Tonya seems very nice. He has a nutritionalist named Ashling that is really rude and stuck up and appears to be about 100 pounds overweight herself so I’m not sure that she should be giving dieting advice.
Dr. Tex was not patient with me. I was in a ton of pain after the surgery and he was acting like I was being a baby. In fact, at a later visit he actually called me a baby. One time I nearly fainted during a lap band fill and his response was impatience. In an annoyed tone of voice he reminded me that he has other patients to see and that we need to get done quickly. I had only been on the table for about 2 minutes at the time!
Future patients should know that they will have to wait MONTHS for an appointment and HOURS in the waiting room.
I think his bedside manner is horrible and if he wasn't so concerned with money he would focus on giving his existing patients BETTER care instead of taking on new patients.
Just my opinion.
Dr. Teixeira is one of the best bariatric surgeons in practice. He is the Medical Director of the St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center for Bariatric Surgery. He specializes in laparascopic surgery and has gone all over the world to teach doctors about laparascopic surgery. He has performed over 3,000 weight loss surgeries and his record is wonderful. You will work with wonderful nurses, nutritionists, support group leaders and meet wonderful people along the way.
The Staff is over worked and wonderful.... Dr. Teixaira is a very busy man. He's the head of Surgery at ST. Luke's Roosevelt Hospitals.
His fellows are very dedicated to the patients.
His bed side manners weren't the best because he was always operating. I only saw him once before going under and two days after( I was in the hospital 5 days)
Surgical competance is way much more important than the bedside manner.... make sure i'm well connected in there!!! besides he had his fellows running around checking on his patients.
my incisions look great, are healing smoothly
It has been such a pleasure going to Dr. Teixeira office his office staff is so pleasant and Jeannie his administrative assistant she was such a blessing to me. Chritine the Physicians assistant she was also wonderful she answered all of my questions. I know it says that not all offices are perfect but I have so far had a great experience with Dr. Teixeira's office. I will let you know after surgery which is on July 21 how his bed side manner is.

UPDATED ON 3/5/2009: I have only good things to say about Dr. Teixeira (and believe me, this is a great compliment when writtenonly 3 days after surgery). Every interaction I had with him was very reassuring. He did not hesitate one second to address my concerns, and he was always very serene and self confident. This does make a difference. And the surgery went fine - the difficulties were expected.rnrnUnfortunately I don't have the same good things to say about his staff. This is the second day I call to schedule a one-week follow up visit and I only got voice-mail. Not surprisingly, they did not return my calls. I wish Dr. Teixeira knew that and sorted it out once and for all.rn________rnrnI'm having my surgery in 5 days so I hope to post again soon. However I do want to share my frustrations with Dr. T's staff. rnHis secretaries were not very helpful with me. They seemed to drag their feet and were not very careful with the information they gave me, which almost caused the process to drag more than necessary. And they just wouldn't return my calls! I confess I fear a bit about what could happen if I have post-op problems - will they be this unresponsive? The only reason I didn't seek other doctor was because this would delay the insurance approval process, otherwise I would definitely have done it. As for the doctor himself, I suppose he doesn't the problems with some of his staff. I only met him once before the surgery (only the nurse - who is great by the way - saw me in my second appointment). Still, he seems to be very well regarded so I still have high expectations for the surgery itself and the follow-up appointments. Finally, the support and the cognitive behavioral therapy groups were great.
I was impressed by Dr. Tex in that he had a video of the procedure on the 'net. There was no pretense, no mystery. I knew all the pros and cons of what I was about to enbark on. The office staff is excellent in that I had no problems at all through the entire process. There is a great empahsis on aftercare in that one is constantly reminded to take the vitamins, workout, watch the intake, things of that nature. Overall, I have no complaints about my surgeon or the staff.
