Institute for Advanced Bariatric Surgery at MISH Bariatric Center

When I first saw Dr. Kaniewski, she was in Alexandria, VA still. I had talked to my primary doctor (Shawn Lepley) and had done some searching on the net and Dr. Lepley liked Dr. Kaniewski's credentials best. So he referred me to Dr. Kaniewski. Dr. Kaniewski impressed me with her knowledge as did her partner Dr. Paramjeet Sabharwal. Both of them were able to explain what would happen and what I could expect both from my procedure and my insurance company. My only regret is that they have moved to Kansas and I will probably not see either of them again. I do however, whole-heartedly recommend them.
Both Dr. Kaniewski and Dr. Sabharwal insisted on support group attendance and follow-up. At the time I saw them, they were in the process of closing their Virginia office to move to Kansas. They were satisfied with my progress and released me to my primary doctor. I think that my primary doctor had had some

Dr. Kaniewski was wonderful. She aalways took the time to answer questions. She and her husband have since moved from Virginia. I would recoment her and her husband Dr. Sabharwal to others.
I had and RNY 110 cm bypassed laparoscopicly. I have not had any problems at all and have lost 95lbs and am in the best health I have ever been in.
Surgical competence and bedside manner were both great!

First impression - I liked her.
impression never changed
staff - there was only William at the time and I thought he was great but I had to keep up with my own paperwork. T
no negative thoughts about her.
The office is very busy and one should take care of their own paperwork.
Highly recommended.
yes, has structured after care program.
yes, said it was major surgery and had risk.
Excellent rate overall.
both great.
it was major surgery and had risk.
Surgeons will be leaving this area in June and I have not had much aftercare except weigh ins.
Kansas City is very lucky to have both her and her hubby.

She is very nice and helpful. She did my surgery in a teaching hospital so I had students around I guess for surgery which was odd... she was always great her husband is also in her practice but he seems to mainly do follow ups and billing which they didn't do properly ...keep all receipts from insurance..etc. and always ask for receipts. They are strcit on aftercare and even took call from me during xmas. so sweet. my overalll rating is an A.

My first impression of Dr. Kaniewski was very positive. She has excellent credentials, is confident although somewhat soft spoken, and eludes a wonderful aura of competence. She has an excellent "bedside manner", i.e., any question you ask gets her immediate and focused response ... and she is knowledgeable about every aspect of her trade. I felt confident I was putting myself in excellent and capable hands. She works with her husband, Dr. Sabbaruh (sp) who also had excellent credentials and they appear to be an excellent team. I did ask the question if they had had any patients succumb on the operating table and was told no, and that they expected to keep it that way. Dr. Kaniewski was actually my surgeon, and she did emphasize aftercare. She carefully explained the procedures and every aspect of WLS that I had. There are brochures available in the office for further reference plus each person is given a WLS guide printed in the office ... which details diet, vitamin, etc. requirements. I would rate this group as excellent. Personally, I value credentials, results, and bedside manner in that order -- the first two as absolutely necessary before I will submit to surgery. I feel well served.

My first impression of Drs. Kaniewski & Sabharwal were Excellent! They are a Wife Husband team. They both show strong confidence in what they are doing. They take as much time as you need to ask questions and go over particulars. They are also available by phone when needed. The office staff is ok? I like William and he tries but I think there is a disorganization with him. I think he is overwhelmed with eveything that needs to be done for everyone right now!! The office is very clean and professional. There are seminars that you can attend before and after surgeries. The operating room at this office is immaculate, sterile and organized looking. I feel like I can place my life in their hands and know that they care and will go the extra mile for me. I feel their surgical competence and bedside manner are A+. I know this for sure because I had the Adjustable Lap Band surgery performed in their office operating room 3/12/04 and am very happy with everything that has happened so far!
The only negative thing that has happened was my surgery was postponed 1 week later after I had already started my bowel prep for surgery the next day because the anesthesiologist had fallen and could not be there for surgery. I asked for a backup but they did not want to just call anyone. They only trusted her. I was disapointed, but I was happy that they cared enough to make me wait for the safest & best!!

She is wonderful. She is a soft spoken woman who really cares about your comfort and ease about the surgery. She operated on both my husband and myself and I would highly reccomend her. She works as a team with her husband, and they are great together. The office staff, however, is often lacking in efficiency. They need to be reminded somewhat often about things they need to set up pre-surgery.

I met with Dr. Kaniewski only once before the surgery and she was very informative for the brief time that I met with her. I met with Dr. Sabharwal most of the time who was very informative, took his time and answered many, many of my questions. I met with Dr. K. the morning of the surgery. She was most reassuring, answered questions from my family and I was on my way. William in the office is very willing to help and I consider him a friend at this time. He could not have been a better liaison. The doctors are very thorough about the whole program and really let one know this is for a life time. Dr. Sabharwal was very clear to let me know that this would work if I would be willing to work with him. The doctors are absolutely clear about the risks of surgery. The verbally informed me as well as give me a concise written explaination. I would rate both doctors as a 10 or above. They can be reached at anytime which I feel is of upmost importance and they had an excellent gentle bedside manner. I feel Dr. K's surgical competence was also a 10 or better. I would highly recommend them to anyone, even my mother if I needed to. I have been researching this procedure for over three years and this was a leap of faith on my part. I was not willing to go anyway but laparascopicially which I feel is why I chose these doctors. They have great credentials and I read very good things about them. I believe they are the only doctors in the NOVA area to do this type of procedure. GOOD LUCK TO ANY THINKING ABOUT THIS ENDEAVOR BUT FIVE DAYS OUT - SO FAR SO GOOD.
