Dr. Hata is a very caring and well skilled surgeon. I would recommend him a million times over he let myself and my family know from start to finish what was going to happen in surgery.

Dr. Hata is a very nice Doc with great manners towards the pt he made me feel very
comfortable and instead of doing the interview in a cold exam room he took myself and my soon to be hubby back to his office and we sat on the couch and had prob a 30 to 45 min talk. He honestly has spent more time with me than PCP has ever spent with me. I didnt find anything that I disliked about him and the staff has all been great and each time I have been in the office the computers have been down but the staff handled it very well and didnt slow them down.
I feel like I am in very good hands and he
is confident that I have made the right choice for my life and he had no doubts about
me needing the surgery and even called it a life saving surgery and said only thing that is elective about it is I can pick the date.

Dr. Cox is a wonderful physician. He is very informative about the surgery and made sure that I knew what I needed to know before having it done. He had a great bedside manner too.rnHis office staff are undescribable. They are all just fantastic and willing to help in anyway they can. rnI would pick the team at Hickory, NC all over again, and Dr. Cox.

FIRST IMPRESSION: Was at the required seminar. He was articulate, knowledgable, and very receptive to questions. My Impression has not changed over time.rnrnTHE OFFICE STAFF are very savy about how to get this through the insurance company, and they all seem to want to be cheerleaders for me, which was something I did not expect. rnrnWHAT I LIKE LEAST ABOUT HIM: Nothing really to complain about except maybe I have no recollection of even seeing him on the day of surgery, although my husband says he came and spoke to him when the surgery was over. ADDED AT 6 MONTHS POST-OP: I still really like my surgeon and feel he was the best choice I could have made for surgical technique (which translates nicely into \"0\" complications for me post-operatively); however, I do notice after having seen him twice in the office for post-op follow-ups that he doesn't seem to even review my labs. In fact, if I don't point out that my iron levels are high (for example) he doesn't even mention them. I don't like that. I am perfectly capable of reviewing my labs and knowing what I need to do about them - but I doubt everyone else has quite the medical background that I do. It's almost like once you're off the operating table and through the initial post-op phase, he kind of checks out. Maybe it's just my experience. I'd choose him again, but I wish he was more engaged with my progress post-operatively. rnrnAFTERCARE EMPHASIS: He places great emphasis on it, and the program hosts a support group that meets monthly. rnrnWHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: As of July-09, he's done over 150 of the gastric bypass surgeries laprascopically, and he specialized in laparascopic surgery at Duke University Medical Center. He's VERY good at what he does. rnrnSURGICAL RISK REDUCTION STRATEGIES: Personally, I was a pretty high risk for post op blood clots, and so he had an inferior vena cava filter inserted in me the day before surgery. Additionally, I think he always uses Lovenox before and after surgery to lower the risk of clots in everyone. I got the preop antibiotic, and had an oxygen saturation monitor at my bedside with the alarm set at 90% the entire time I was in the hospital. rnrnOVERALL RATING: Excellent. He's both surgical adept and has an excellent bedside manner. I actually wanted the sleeve instead of the RNY, and he tried to get that for me with the insurance, but they were having none of it. So, I really appreciate that he tried for me. rnrnAnother thing he went out of his way to do for me was that I needed to have my surgery done and be out of the hospital before July 1st, when my new insurance year started. My premiums were all going up and I would have to meet all my deductibles and copays all over again. So, when the insurance gave their approval, the office staff scheduled the surgery for June 29th, which was cutting it way too close for me. We had discussed this in my preop visit, and he had told me if it got too close to July 1st, he could be a little flexible and make it happen earlier. So I asked the office staff to ask him if the surgery could be done any sooner. They tried to blow me off with \"he can't do it any sooner\", but I persisted, and said \"Maybe so, but would you just ask?\". Well, they did ask, and he moved my date to June 25th. I was really blown away by that, and appreciate it more than he can know. He's a two thumbs-upper in my estimation. And I don't give great ratings easily.

When I first met Dr. Hata, it was at an informational seminar required to be accepted into the program Catawba Valley program. I wasn't planning on him being my surgeon, but when he spoke he did seem to know his stuff and be very personable with the group. He was open to questions and answered all wonderfully, while making sure we were all aware of the different and differing levels of risks with the different types of surgeries.

In all honesty,I suppose it was the fact he was the "first available" surgeon (once I had all my paperwork ready to meet with one of the three) that influenced me to become his patient. To date, I haven't regretted this decision at all. The only negative I could find about him is beyond his control, being that sometimes surgery can make wait times for follow up visits rather lengthy. He is very competent as far as surgery, aftercare, and any issues you may face post-op. Best of all, he does seem generally concerned for your well-being, and very willing to give you his time should the need arise. I've been very glad for this patience, seeing as I've had some issues keeping myself fed for fear of discomfort and have had to see him a little more often than I should! He gets an A+ in my book!

As far as the Catawba Valley Surgical Weight Management program is concerned, all I have come in contact with to date are great! They know their stuff and are truly out for your best interest, both physically and mentally. The aftercare program is very structured with follow up visits, bloodwork, and just keeping in touch with the coordinator and deititian, and Dr. Hata does (as one should assume) like for you to keep those appointments!

Dr.Hata is a great doctor. He has been great through my whole surgery.Yesterday,I was one year post op and i have lost 141 pounds. He was great before, after and doing my stay in the hospital. He even made late night rounds to check on me during my hospital stay.He takes the time and sits down and talks with me.He answers all questions honestly and to the best of his knowledge that me or my husband may have.If you have any questions or concerns, him or his staff are right there to help. His staff is great too!Hickory Surgical Weight Loss is the best!I seen Doctor Hata today and even after a year post op, he has not changed. His aftercare has been great. He set in the exam room and talked to my husband and I and he took the time and answered every question we had. It's hard to find doctors like him.I highly reccommend him for weightloss surgery. His surgical competence and bedside manner are both great!I rate him on a scale from 1-10, I give him a 10.I'm so glad I chose him as my surgeon.

I had my consult with Dr. Cox on September 15, 2007. He was very open and informative, taking the time to answer all my questions completely. His office staff was helpful. I have had the most interaction with Lisa Craig. She has been very responsive to my calls and prompt with filing the predeterminations to my insurers. So far a big thumbs up for all involved.
