Chicago Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery Bariatric Center
I had been to a couple of different surgeons before I visited Dr. Frantzides office on a close friend's recommendation. One visit was all it took for me to decide that I wouldn't trust anyone else with my internal organs. LOL! As soon as Dr. Frantzides walked into the examination room...he immediately put me at ease. He sat down and actually talked to me! He didn't rush out of the room after throwing a couple of medical terms at me. Instead, he sat down and asked me about myself. He talked TO me and not AT me. He explained the surgery very thoroughly. I immediately felt like I could trust him and a lot of my anxiety over surgery disappeared. He answered all of my questions during our first consultation (very knowledgable) and I left his office feeling as though I had known him all of my life. The entire staff at Dr. Frantzides office are just as approachable. I've had to call the office regarding appointments, insurance billing questions and post-surgery questions and have always either gotten through right away or have received a prompt call back. On the flip side...since he does take his time with his patients..be prepared to wait in the lobby a while before you get in to see him. He usually runs about a half hour to an hour behind schedule and only sees patients on Fridays for office visits. He's definitely worth the wait though. I think that the most valuable thing that I could tell you about this doctor is that after being Dr. Frantzides patient for 2 years...I consider him my friend. That, to me, is absolutely unheard of. He's the type of doctor who will call you back on a Sunday afternoon...after he's been at the hospital all night....just so that he can ease your fears about pulling a stitch or something. I highly recommend Dr. Frantzides!
Dr. Frantzides was great. I met the doctor in July 2004 after losing only 24lbs with the lap band. The adjustable gastric band was placed laparoscopically on Jan. 17, 2003. Mind you I was self pay, since my insurance company considered this procedure experimental. After all the money I spent and 8 adjustments, I only lost 24lbs in 1 year. I was devastated. That's when I decided maybe this was not the procedure for me, because I really tried. The reason I chose the lapband was because I so afraid of the gastric bypass surgery. However, my health problems were an issue so I had to do something. I spoke to one doctor who speciallized in gastric bypass surgery and he told me he would be happy to perform an open bypass surgery. I said never mind, I wanted it done lapraroscopically. I began to do more research and I saw Dr. Frantzides profile here. I was impressed when I saw his extensive experience in laparoscopic sugery and I immediately made an appointment. When I met Dr. frantzides he was great. He was very confident that my surgery could be done laproscopically. I left his office floating on air. After many tests I am happy to announce I had my band removed laproscopically and Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass surgery on Jan. 25 2005 and I was released from the hospital on Jan 27, 2005 and I feel pretty good. Guess what? I am typing this at my desk at work on Feb. 1, 2005. My first day back. Feel a little weak, but thank God for a desk job. One last statement. The office staff is phenomenal. Karen and Jerri are the best. Thank you Dr. Franzides and Dr. Zeni. I would recommend them to anyone.
My surgeon is THE BEST and his staff is outstanding. Thanks JERRY and CYNTHIA. D.Frantzides, he is AWESOME he is warm and VERY caring no matter what his patients come first. He was my cousin's surgeon and my aunt's, they love him just as well. His WHOLE staff are truly wonderful people. I have been bugging Jerry before I even went for my consultation so by the time I actually met her I felt like I have been knowing her for years. I would recommend ANYONE to Dr. Frantzides he is absolutely an ANGEL.
When I first met Dr. Frantzides, I also met a lot of his staff, they were all very pleasant and knowledgable. Dr. Frantzides immediately put me at ease with his confident and vast knowledge of the lap proceduce. Of course, this was not a surprise since his credentials were more than impressive. Dr. Frantzides really focuses on performing the surgery lapriscopic instead of open, which a lot of doctors tend not to recommend. Lapriscopic is the way to go and Dr. Frantzides believes that almost everyone can have the surgery lapriscopically. I also want to emphasize that his staff is extremely helpful and willing to answer any questions...some of his staff have even had the surgery themselves...so they do know what you have gone through or will go through...there are not too many surprises. You will know all the risks and benefits of the surgery, they will hide nothing from you. I rate Dr. Frantzide and his staff as a 10. I could not have asked for a better surgical team...I would not have done it any other way than having Dr. Frantzides perform my surgery lapriscopically.
Thanks to Dr. Frantzides, Dr. Zeni, and Karen!
Dr. Frantzides is very attentive, he looked at me as an individule person. He is very carring. The office staff is very wonderful, they are always there for you. Karen the nurse is always ready for any questions you may have pre and post surgery. They always treated me as if I was there only patient. That is very hard to find in these times. I was very excited that I was lucky that Dr. Dr. Frantzides is the "MASTER" of this surgery. There was never a question about having the surgery done the "old fashion OPEN way" My recovery has been a breeze. I'm sure my recovery has been so easy because I did not have the "open" procedure. Dr. Frantzides and his staff strongly recomend follow up visits and support group meetings. Dr. Frantzides is as good as it gets!! I feel I have a second chance at life.
I chose Dr. Frantzides after 2 other family members had surgery with him. The amount of surgery's that he has performed was my biggest selling factor. His clinical nurse, Karen, is a HUGE factor of having someone who undertands, cares, and follow through with good suggestions.
While the relationship between Dr. Frantzides and myself has been tarnished due to some financial issues, (those problems are because of me, not him), I feel it would not be right for me to have any negative thoughts about him as a surgeon.
I would not focus on his "high level on confidence", others might call it "ego". The bottom line is he is one of the most succesful surgeons perfoming LAP surgery and has perfomed over 800 of this type of surgery.
My first impression of Dr. Fratizides was a good one, not surprising because he came highly recommended. While being under his care, my experinces with him have been good ones. My impression of him has and will remain the same; he is an excellent physician. He has an excellent staff who cared for me with love and care. Dr. Frantzides was very attentive to me before, during and after my surgery. He also kept my family and loved ones very well informed answering their many questions and was always available when needed.
During the after care he maked sure that I understood and followed the regimen that set to allow your body to heal an to become the new you. He also provided very informative brochures about the coming changes in my body and the necessary changes in my eating habits, etc.
Before surgery he makes sure that you and your loved ones understand the risk that is involved with surgery but he makes you also feel safe assured that you are in good hands. Surgical competence, bedside manner go hand in hand and Dr. Frantizides has what it takes. I would recommend Dr. Frantizides again and again.
I was really impressed with Dr. Frantzides and his staff with my first consultation. Dr. Frantzides and his staff take the time to explain everything with you, answer any questions and give you an in-depth explainantion of everything that will be done to you during surgery. They do not rush you or make you feel like you are taking up their time. My first visit was about 2 hours long. I can easily say that I love my surgeon and would highly reccomend him!
