Center for Obesity Surgery in Gainsville Bariatric Center

He looked young. I had read where others had mentioned that. I did not feel nervous at all. He was very informative and although we could tell he was rushed he took the time to answer all questions. The staff displayed knowledge and their capability to handle all our needs and questions. It is almost handled like clockwork as Dr Thoburn and his staff have done this for quiet some time.

Dr Thoburn is the bomb! My first impression of him was DAMN he is cute LOL! He seems so young! He is a very direct kinda guy, he doesnt pull any punches, he is gonna tell you exactly how it is. If you don't take well to very blunt folks you might find his delivery harsh or curt. I personally loved his no nonsense style, I didn't want a social director I wanted the best surgeon in the state for me and I know I found him. He personally does a presentaion and surgical overview of the risks and benefits with all his new patients. He doesn't gloss over the risks at all, he discusses in detail the information you deserve to know. The thing I guess that I liked least about him is that he is married, darn! LOL The only complaint that I could possibly lodge are the follow-up visits can be quite lengthy when he has a waiting room full of folks to see and they also have to see the nutritionist, but really that is a small price to pay for my health and its a great opportunity to visit with fellow post-ops and swap stories. Dr Thoburn is the aftercare KING! His program is a full 18 months of followup with him, his nurse and the staff nutritionist. He also has a support group that meets once a month, and its really a support group not just a rah rah session about the surgical group. His Office staff is friendly and personable. My overall rating of Dr Eric Thoburn is A++++++ He knows his stuff and I never doubted that I was in VERY capable hands! I was 579lbs when he operated on me and just 17 days shy of 9 months since surgery, I am 160lbs lighter and 200% happier! I continue to lose everyday, and that makes me a winner!

I am scheduled for surgery on Jan.8,2004 and Dr. Thoburn has been nothing short of amazing. I have completly comfortable with him and his staff has been excellent. He is up front and tells everything the way it is not sugar coated, just honest. the facilty/hospital is wonderful every single person that I have come into contact with thus far has been beyond nice and friendly. I will keep you guys updated because I feel that this section is so important to the success of your decision. Any questions just email me! Happy New Year!

I was very impressed with Dr. Thoburns staff and the Doc himself to the point but you did not feel as if you were hurried, So far very professional.

I had Dr Thoburn in Gainesville, FL and recommend him highly.

Dr. Thoburn seems to be a great surgeon. He was very thorough during the initial consult. His presentation of the surgery was not sugar coated. He told it like it is, risks and all. I am very impressed with this young surgeon and feel he the best choice to perform my surgery. If I had to say one negative thing, it would be that he is obviously very busy and hurries a little bit. However, when me or my husband stopped him with questions, he was more than willing to give thorough answers.

Well, I actually know Dr. Thoburn more than he knows me. When I was in surgical technology school I actually gloved and gowned him, as well as assisted in a few Gastric Bypasses.
He is a very direct person, he will tell you what he can do for you, and what you would then need to do for yourself. I can't think of a negative thing to say about him.

For months I have been having problems with the insurance company and the billing code submitted by my Doctor. I finally got to the point where I was seeking another doctor. Today, Dr. Brient took the time to call me personally and make me aware that he has given his staff the OK to schedule me for suurgery. Those words were like music to my ears. I was getting dicouraged and actually made an appointment for a consultation with another doctor. I was getting upset because I really like Dr. Brient and his bedside manner. Dr Brient has always been honest with me and he has kept me up with the latest with the insurance issues. I would encourage all of you to seek Dr. Brient if you are considering this surgery.

Dr. Thoburn is young, but he seems very competent. His staff is professional. I have no negative comments to make about Dr. Thoburn or his staff. They explain everything in detail. Dr. Thoburn does a slide presentation that details the risk of this surgery and the risk of remaining obese. When you arrive at the office you fill paperwork out, after that they weigh you and take your blood pressure. After that you walk over to a room and everyone interested in surgery that day is there viewing a presentation. Dr. Thoburn talks to the group and after that the nutritionist speaks to educate you on what to expect after surgery, then the insurance person speaks to let you what the process will consist of to get insurance approval. After everyone has completed speaking the group is directed back to the office to wait to meet with Dr. Thoburn. He is totally professional, but not cold or unfriendly. I did not spend a great deal of time talking with him, but I was so informed from the presentation and the other part of my visit I didn't have many questions for him. I feel good about him doing my surgery.
