Novant Carolina Surgical Charlotte Bariatric Center
So far I just have my first consult with him March 4th 2005 and his nurse staff Kelly was very nice and patient for me to get her the info. I really appreciate how nice she was. Dr. Lowe IS THE best doctor I have ever MET in my LIFE. He has the Best bedside manners the most knowledge and most of all he was a real person not like the Aliens you usually meet. THere is NOTHING I dont like about him. He is WONDERFUL. overall I RATE HIM A 10 NO 20. Nita his nurse OMG I love her to death too. She is soo smart and quick to get things done. Over time I have only grown to love this office and Dr. Lowe They act like NORMAL people NOT higher than you.
I met Dr. Lowe one year ago, when I had my first consultation. I thought he was very soft-spoken, but I spoke with him at length and found him to be incredibly intelligent and extremely nice. I characterize him as being very sincere and honest in his assessments and very caring about his patients. I like him a lot. When I asked his opinion about my having the RNY vs. the DS, he was very honest in stating he was biased in his opinon and leaned towards the RNY because that is the only surgery he performs.
Very Nice. He is tall and has nice smile to make you feel comfortable. Friendly and has sense of humor. I first didnt know how to take him but once I started talking to him he eased my mind some. I felt nervous but I saw a calendar in his room sitting on sink had bible verses on it and I told my friend I thought this was a good man. His staff is really nice. Meeta has really helped me alot as well as Rachael . There was nothing I didnt like about Dr. Lowe he made me feel at ease. He is a Christian man I know this because I asked him (Lol) I wanted to know if the man operating on me had the man above guiding his hands while on the table and he laughed at me and told me he was. I also asked him how many he had lost and he told me none and I told me that was good because I didnt want to be a
statistic. He sits down with a book and tells you step by step what will happen if you dont follow his instructions. I think Dr. Lowe will take good care of me after meeting him and his bedside manner will be great and with me that counts alot. I like a doctor with personality and cares about his patient.
I really feel comfortable with Dr. Lowe. He was really approachable and comforting. When he said I need you to feel comfortable with me, b/c we'll be seeing each other for the rest of your life. I felt really good about it, b/c this meant that I wasn't just a number. He didn't try to rush me in and out. I would say anyone that can get him as a surgeon, get him. He told me all the risks and told me this was a tool and how to work my tool. If I had to rate him I would give him a 8 now. After I come out of surgery smiling and living then I'll give him his 10. I would say having a bedside manner and surgical competence are two very important things. They go hand in hand.
When I first met Dr. Melkonian I thought he was very impersonal, but knowledgable. I would choose knowledge and skill any time over personality. The more I got to know him I got to see his "true" personality and liked him even more. He explained everything to the most minute detail and left nothing to the imagination. He performed a total of four surgeries on me and I never went in not knowing what to expect before, during and after. I would trust him with my life (actually I did).
Nita his nurse ...what can I say? She is wonderful and the most helpful person I've ever met in the medical profession. I even found out we grew up only one mile from each other. Small world.
I met Dr. Melkonian after a WLS seminar at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte and to be honest I did not know when I went there that he was going to be my surgeon or who was going to be my surgeon for than matter. After the seminar, I went up and spoke to Dr. and told him that my cardiologist said hi (apparently they went to school together) and after that..conversation ensued and I had a surgeon. I like him right off the bat, he is very straight forward and does not beat around the bush. The office staff has been great too. Only one oops so far and that was that my insurance packet got faxed to the wrong number, but when they got the correct number, Nita ended up faxing it like 5 times because something was wrong with the fax line and she was getting a message that it was not going through, when in fact it was... The insurance called and said alright already...stop faxing us we have 5 copies. Nita said good then have enough to give everyone in the office a copy. (Love her since of humor)
Aftercare is very important to Dr. M...he makes it VERY clear up front that WLS is a tool and without you using it correctly you will fail. He tells you all the risks of surgery and does not sugar coat anything.
I will answer the rest of the questions after my surgery.
I first had seen Dr. Melkonian at the Surgical Options Seminar and thought he sounded very knowledgable on the surgery.
At the intital appointment he was very friendly, courteous, and took the time to go over the surgery in detail and asked all my questions. He went over the risk, possible complications and that this was a tool and what my part of the surgery would be to make sure it was a success. He never made me feel like he was in a hurry, but took all the time needed. Nita his nurse was just as wonderful as I had heard she was. I will have have required sessions completed June 3, and when she received reports she will prepare paperwork to send into insurance for approval.I would rate him a 9 overall. I was very pleased with initial visit.
My first impression of Dr. Lowe was that he was to young and good looking to be a surgeon! But as soon as we began talking about the surgery, the risks, and the benefits, I was enthralled. He is so personable and obviously brilliant. He stresses the aftercare required with this surgery and makes sure you understand that he will be your Dr. for life. He took plenty of time explaining the various surgeries to me, which I sincerly admire, because he's probley said these same things 100 times, and he also answered all of my questions, even the ones that must have seemed silly to such an educated surgeon.
