Blossom Bariatrics Bariatric Center
My first impression was he's very good looking!rnHe was the most honest and forthright doctor I had met. He was the first to not sugar coat the surgery and risks which I, working in health care appreciated but he scared my daughter to death :) over time and now being so well with not a single complication I think he is by far the best in his field. His office staff has been under alot of change since the day of my surgery so unfortunally I don't use the office staff except for Karlyn, who is an excellent dietican. His aftercare is pretty typical and he does expect you to follow up.rnI would rate Dr. Umbach a 15 on a scale of 1-10!!! His surgical competence is beyond reproach and for a surgeon and everyone knows their reputations he is very warm and friendly and caring. He's my personal superhero
Met him the day before surgery. I had no background knowledge of him. I am just a very trusting soul. Found Dr. Umbach to be sort of a quiet kind of guy, not very engaging in conversation. I liked that, because I got to ask all my questions and he answered every one.rnrnOne GREAT thing I REALLY liked was he actually kept asking \"Are you sure you want to do this?\" \"People die from this\" and things like that. I know it was not meant to scare me...in so much as it was trying to make sure I had really thought this through. rnrnThere is so much positive you can hear and see about surgery results... and not very often you hear about what the \"downside\" possibilities of the surgery are. So, again, I felt Dr. Umbach was making sure I knew this was not some simple outpatient surgery. It was a VERY SERIOUS MATTER. I hope a lot of doctors keep reminding patients of that. rnrnAll of my follow up care in person and on the phone with him were great as well. In my opinion only...I think he is VERY competent and capable. rn
He seemed very forthcoming about the surgery and what his requirements were prior to surgery. I really like his staff, especially Kathy. He emphasized after care. The after care program, excluding follow up visits which are mandatory, seems fairly unstructured. It is available but not required. He was very thorough about risks and potential outcomes. I'd say his surgical competence is best. His bedside manner is really good, calm and supportive, but I find him difficult to approach.
Dr. Umbach seems to be a very caring doctor. I would say he's pretty laid back. his slip on shoes and no socks, give me that impression. He was very thorough about what to expect and not to expect after surgery. He covered the possible risks that sometimes follow the surgery, but assured me that if I had a problem he would be right there finding out what was wrong and fixing it. I haven't spent much time with him, but more with his staff and I love his staff. My nurse case manager Kathy is very upfront and honest. She's the one who knows the answers, or knows how to get the answers. The bariatric center has a dietician, a psychologist and a physical therapist all on staff. They're there before surgery and they're there after surgery.rnSo far I am very pleased with the whole Bariatric center set-up.
I thought initially, he was not sure what to think of me. I came in with two of my overweight friends and we immediately thought he was probably thinking about the new mercedes he would get if we all had surgery. He advised me he drove a Honda.rnrnDr. Umbach is a young looking surgeon with very pretty blue eyes. He knows his stuff and did a great job educating me before and after surgery. I never felt rushed when I saw him and felt I was important to him as a patient. I felt that he wanted me to succeed and encouraged me to engage in the support group, web sites etc. I did not get to see his bedside manner as Dr. Yarborough was on call the weekend after my surgery and he was very nice, very kind, compassionate and reassuring. I have enjoyed all of the doctors and staff at the Bariatric Clinic in Eugene.rnrnThe only negative thing I have to say is that I love pink and I asked Dr. Umbach to wear pink scrubs when he did my surgery but he did not. I can forgive that.
My first impression of Dr. Umbach was great. He was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable. I asked many questions, and he answered each and every one to my satisfaction. After my first consultation, I knew I wanted him to perform the surgery!rnrnIn addition; His staff is great, always cheerful, and very knowledgeable in their perspective fields. Which in turn, has made my journey a very pleasant one from the start. rnrnI would encourage anyone considering this type of surgery, to seek out Dr. Umbach, and attend one of his seminars. I had the Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, and feel great.rnrnHis surgical competence and bedside manner were the best! What a Sweetie!rn
When I first saw Dr. Umbach, I was attending a seminar that had many people there to listen in so I only saw him from a distance. When I got to actually meet with Dr. Umbach one-on-one, I grew confident that he is knowledgeable in the area of Bariatrics. I kept thinking that \"dang, my life will literally be in this mans hands\" it's frightening to think about if one thinks too deep about that. However, after listening to Dr. Umbach speak at a local seminar again, I had NO DOUBT whatsoever, that he knows what he is doing and takes bariatric surgery very seriously. He allowed me to speak with him again at the seminar and gave me his undivided attention. I am also aware that Dr. Gorrin will be assisting in my surgery and for that I am also grateful. What a team of doctors they have at the Oregon Bariatric Center and they are taking on yet another surgeon, Dr. Yarbrough,: Residency: Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota . I can see that this group means business and I feel very fortunate that they have chosen our area to form their practice.rnrnHeavy emphasis is placed on after care as well. I have been active in the local support group and plan to stay involved for a long time to come.
Dr Umach is a great surgeon,he cares of how you feel before and after surgery.I felt confident that he was my surgeon and i felt i was in good hands. His staff was great making sure i knew everything abou surgery before/after, they have the best support group ever. Dr Umbach was open and honest about the risks of surgery, i thank him for that. If Dr Umback happens to be your surgeon don't worry you are in great hands!!!!
My first thought was he is so handsom. Dr.Umbach is a master in his field, he is very straight forward in his approach and is a true professional. I found it easy to communicate with him and I was impressed with his attentiveness towards my questions and concerns. Dr. Umbach requires you to follow the Bariatric program and attend all the pre education classes, support groups, and monthly post op classes. The Kaiser Bariatric Program is full of tools you can use to make the lifestyle changes necessary prior to having surgery. The Bariatric educators are dedicated to the success of their patient's WLS goals.
