Very straight forward. Nurse was wonderful. He addressed all of my questions (a long written list) with no complaints. He let me know all the risks which pleased me because I had come into this already aware of them through my own research. He passed my test when he told me about potential problems without candycoating the whole thing.
When I first met him, he seemed kind of reticent. Not so. As time has gone by, I can see what a great guy he is. He has been nothing but wonderful to me and my husband. His aftercare is excellent and he is extremely pleased with my progress.

I will meet my surgeon on Feb 27th. I will update at that time, but I have heard mostly good things about him and his staff.

Dr. Nye was not what I expected! He is this great big hairy kinda guy with a noticeable paunch. I found him quite charming. He was warm and personable and was interested in my particular case.

The office staff were great. I have no complaints there. I had actually heard that they could be rude at times, however I did not find that to be the case at all.

Future patients should know that he requires a food diary of at least 2-3 weeks long. He looks at it during the consult and makes a determination about what kind of surgery to perform right then and there.

I would rate Dr. Nye a perfect 10 for me. I know many of his patients and most seem quite satisfied. Only one is having problems, however I think her situation merits consideration of other factors.

My first appointment with Dr. Nye was informative as well as suggestive. I have a problem, he has a solution. Simple. He did not promise shooting stars or rainbows but did say a sussessful proceedure should bring me about a 150 pound loss. Not enough for Cosmo, but sufficient for what I want from this.
Dr. Nye came highly recommended by a friend whose concern of my dwindling existance became her concern and mission. After 18 month of her suggestive reasoning, I made and kept the appointment. Thank God for friends.
My friend has no complaints concerning Dr. Nye or his staff. I am looking forward to developing my own personal opinions and working relationship. We have a lot of work to do.
More will follow as things progress.

"What was your first impression of him?"
I liked Dr. Nye from the first time I met him. He was knowledgeable, informative and very receptive. He never made me feel like I was not worthy or that I did not have valid concerns. He informed me from the start what option would be best for me. He and his staff wasted no time in getting the ball rolling toward insurance approval and a surgery date.

"How did your impression change over time?"
My impression has not changed about Dr. Nye. He is the best!

"How would you describe his office staff?"
Dr. Nye's office staff are the best. They are helpful, informative and courteous. They are a great group.

"What did you like least about him?"
There is nothing I do not like about Dr. Nye or his staff.

"What should future patients know about him?"
He is a very caring and gentle person. He will help you as much as you need.

How much does he emphasize aftercare?"
He is very concerned about his patients and how they are doing. He emphasizes that you come for post-op appointments so to keep up with post-op care, to assess for and treat post-op complications and to give you the support you need for your new life style. He also emphasizes the needs for vitamins and monthly B-12 shots to ensure your health.

"Does he have a structured aftercare program?"
He schedules your aftercare appointments as he thinks you need them and then monthly for at least a year to ensure your good health.

"How did he address the risks of surgery?"
He explained the risks involved with surgery and the risk of an unhealthy lifestyle. I am a nurse and I realized that my weight was not healthy and that something needed to be done to ensure that I would live a longer and healthier life.

"How would you rate him overall?"
I would give him a "10"!

"Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or both?"
I would say, being a nurse, surgical competence is the best quality to have. But if your surgical competence is enhanced by a good bedside manner that is supportive for your patients, then you truly possess the best skills available.

I know that reviews are not always 100% positive. The only problem I had was in having my gallbladder removed. The clips leaked and I had to have a Jackson-Pratt drain in for 18 days. It was in the way and a pain (not painful, just a pain). I did not like the pureed foods - PERIOD.

I now know why babies make the awful faces they do when given baby food. After being able to eat a soft diet I felt human again and my outlook changed to the positive.

My surgeon was great, the first three weeks after surgey were not. I was ill, did not feel good, had no energy and was missing the fact that I could no longer have "FOOD"! But now I am feeling good and the added benefit that I am losing weight is just wonderful.

The best advice I can give - Be patience. Time will pass and you will feel good again!

Dr Nye is great. I was very impressed with him. He seems very sincere and genuine. His staff is great as well, Rose, his nurse is wonderful. Terry is great too. I have no complaints at all. I'm anxious to see Dr Nye again next week and my surgery the Dec 11th-01. Dr Nye and his staff are 10's.

i liked dr.nye from the get go. his staff was helpful and did not seem to care that i bugged them constantly. Dr.nye has the same border on his exam room wall as i do in my den--it was destiny.

Dr. Nye was very informative and seemed patient with me and my questions.

My impression of him has been the same, based on the three times i have seen him. i have the opportunity to go with a friend to her consultation and her pre-op appointment and then to my consultation on aug. 20th(monday).

Rose is wonderful and very understanding. terry seems nice- i just haven't had a chance to talk to her much.

dr. nye requires a 4 week food diary to determine which type of surgery is best for his patients. dr. nye seems to be really big on aftercare(based on my friends surgery on aug.7th). they encourage vicki and i to go to the support group meeting there in pensacola. as far as the surgery risk- he explained as with any surgery there are risk. my rating of dr. nye would be a 9.

Dr Nye was very nice. Took his time and even drew pictures about the surgery. I still feel the same about him. The staff is nice, of course there is always one anywhere thatis a woos. He expects a month of eating diary, if you don't go with one you will have to wait another month until you give him one. He requires blood test, x-rays and pschy evaluations. He is very strong about after care. he leaves the ngy tube in for about 3-4 days, for 3 weeks you are on liquids only and the fourth week you can eat anything your stomach will accept. He will talk about his surgerys and the risks. Dr Nye is #1 in my book. His competence and bedside manner are super.

I am sooo excited! I got a call from Dr. Nye's office for an earlier appointment. My appointment was yesterday, July 23rd. I was very impressed with him. He was very kind and explained everything very thoroughly, the benefits and the risks alike. He explained from the beginning that he was not here to judge me, but to help me...and all of his staff acted that way toward me! I am now awaiting insurance approval. They told me that it could take anywhere from 1-3 weeks...but at least everything is in the process now. I was very nervous about getting Dr. Nye's approval for surgery, but he put me at ease immediately and talked very sincerely to me. My husband was also impressed with him and liked how he taylored the surgeries he does to fit individual needs. It is a pain to keep the food diary that he requires, but I now understand that it is to help me and him determine exactly what surgery would work best for me. I would give him and his office staff a 10!

I had talked to other patients about Dr Nye before ever meeting him and I requested my referral be with him from my primary care dr. I was impressed with how straight forward he is, he doesnt sugar coat things, and thats good cause i didnt want sugar! :)
I already had my food journal with me and he was pleased about that. He told me they would apply for surgery for me with my insurance company and I should hear something in about 3 weeks. Everyone was very nice in the office and I know Terri, my daughter was in cheerleading with her daughter. It was nice to see a face I knew, very comforting.
